Introduction to Interface

Ribbon and Tabs in Excel:

Excel ribbon is the row of tabs and icons at the top of the Excel window that allows you to find, understand
and use commands for completing a certain task. Excel ribbon is the primary interface that contains every
command and feature. The Ribbon has multiple display options according to your preferences.

In Excel Ribbon, the buttons and icons are grouped into different tabs based on the category of their
functionalities. It contains seven tabs: Home, Insert, Page Layout, Formulas, Data, Review, and View.

 In Excel, the Ribbon is made up of these four basic components, such as:
 Ribbon tab: It contains multiple commands logically subdivided into groups.
 Ribbon group: A set of closely related commands normally performed as part of a larger task.
 Dialog launcher: A small arrow in the lower-right corner of a group brings up more related
commands. Dialog launchers appear in groups that contain more commands than available space.
 Command button: It is the button you click to perform a particular action.
Customize the Ribbon:

 The ribbon in Excel can be customized. You can easily create your own tab and add commands to it.
 Right click anywhere on the ribbon, and then click Customize the Ribbon.
 Click New Tab.
 Add the commands you like.
 Rename the tab and group. Note: you can also add new groups to existing tabs. To hide a tab,
uncheck the corresponding check box and click OK

Data Modification:

 Double-click the cell that contains the data that you want to edit. ...
 Click the cell that contains the data that you want to edit, and then click anywhere in the formula
bar. ...
 Click the cell that contains the data that you want to edit, and then press F2.

Interface Shortcut Keys:


 To create a new workbook - Ctrl + N
 To open an existing workbook - Ctrl + O
 To save a workbook - Ctrl + S
 To move to the next sheet - Ctrl + Page Down
 To move to the previous sheet- Ctrl + Page Up
 To edit a cell- F2
 Worksheet Navigation – Ctrl + Page Up/Page Down
 Renaming Sheet- Shift + F2

Navigate between worksheets:

First select the sheet you want to go, and you need to open the activate window to navigate between
worksheets. Right-click on the double arrows near the sheets tab bar. You can see the related tooltip when
you hover your mouse over this area.
