Different Recreational Games
INTRODUCTION
These are played purely for enjoyment, sometimes for achievement or rewards as well. They can be played
alone, in teams, or online; by amateurs or by professionals. The key components of these are goals, rules,
challenge, and interaction. Games generally involve mental or physical stimulation, and often both. Many
games help develop practical skills, serve as a form of exercise, or otherwise perform an educational,
simulational, or psychological role.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
1. Dodgeball is a team sports in which players on two teams try to throw balls and hit opponents,
while avoiding being hit themselves. The object of each team is to eliminate all members of the
opposing team by hitting them with thrown balls, catching a ball thrown by an opponent, or
inducing an opponent to commit a violation, such as stepping outside the court.
2. Badminton is a racquet sport played using racquets to hit a shuttlecock across a net. Although it
may be played with larger teams, the most common forms of the game are “singles” (with one
player per side) and “doubles” (with two players per side). It is often played as a casual outdoor
activity in a yard or on a beach; formal games are played on a rectangular indoor court. Points are
scored by striking the shuttlecock with the racquet and landing it within the opposing side’s half of
the court.
3. Arnis is the Phillipines’ national martial art and sport. It involves vigorous movements of the arms,
shoulders, trunk, the abdomen, and the lower extremities- the legs and the feet. As a sport, arnis
develops special abilities. Emphasis is placed on quickness and coordination, and the perfect
execution of the skills.
4. Laro ng Lahi are the games commonly played by children and adults, usually using native materials
or instruments. We usually invent games without the need of anything but the players themselves.
Their games’ complexity arises from their flexibility to think and act. Examples are given below:
B. Tug-of-War is a sport that pits two teams against each other in a test of strength: teams pull
on opposite ends of a rope, with the goal being to bring the rope a certain distance in one
direction against the force of the opposing team’s pull.
