Digital Electronics Lab: EE422

Experiment #: 4

Experiment Title: Comparators and Schmitt Triggers

Your Name: Lana bani yaseen

I.D. #: 126399
Objectives:
1. Knowing how the values of potentiometer effect hysteresis lag
2. Learn how comparator circuit work

Equipment:
Resistors ( 100 - kn , 10 - kn , 4.3 - kn )
capacitors ( 100 - PF )
potentiometer ( 50 - kn )
( 741 ) OP . Amp .
( LM339 ) comparator
dc power supply , VOM or DMM , P.G. , Scope .

Circuit Diagram:

1. comparator circuit

2. Schmitt trigger circuit

3.

Procedure:
*At the bigging we connect the comparator circuit in part one at LTspice then we found the input
and output characteristic at VR=1volt after that we change the input signal from triangular wave
to sinusoidal wave and record the output signal for 1 , 2 volts of VR.
*the second step is connecting the Schmitt trigger circuit and find input and output characteristic
when potentiometer is (50kΩ, 20kΩ, 10kΩ) then record the output and input signals at different
values for potentiometer
*the last step is connecting the third circuit and show the output signal and find the frequency and
duty cycle.

Result

1.transfer characteristics
1.output signal (VR=1)

1.output signal(VR=2)

2.transfer characteristic(Rpot =50k)

2.transfer characteristic(Rpot =20k)

2.transfer characteristic(Rpot =10k)

2.input-output Rpot=50k

2.input-output Rpot=20k

2.input-output Rpot=10k

3. tp =6ms t (total)=20ms
Frequency=50Hz duty cycle= 0.3
3.

Conclusion:
*in Schmitt trigger circuit when we decrease the value of potentiometer the hysteresis lag
is decrease.
