READING PROGRAM

DALUBASA (Dalubhasang Mambabasa)

Reading is a corner stone of a child’s success to school, it is a life skill that

will enable learners to extend their concepts and gain information as the basis for

other learning. Reading is an active, yet hidden process which the reader interacts

with the text to obtain meaning. It is a process which involves word recognition,

comprehension, fluency, and motivation, therefore this should be well develop for it

is important to a person’s life as this serves as a key to wisdom and to be a proficient

reader.

It was further stressed that every learner must become fully proficient in

reading to be successful in school (Aina, A J;Okusaga, T.O.; Taiwo, Adebowale and

Ogundipe, 2011). Therefore, to enhance learners reading skills, teachers should find

effective ways in teaching about reading that will make a great help for them to

realize, analyze and comprehend to what they read. If the learners find reading as

entertaining, from appropriately paced readers they will become a better readers.

In this connection, the Upper Gabriela Integrated School is conducting

programs on reading as intervention for the non-readers to cope with. This projects

aims to improved reading proficiency levels of all learners, develops comprehension

and fluency skills of all learners in reading. In line to this program, teachers every

grade level in Upper Gabriela Integrated School have their own reading program

which are executed through the use of different strategy and reading materials.
According to the sources of reading difficulties, reading problems are found

among every group and in primary classroom, although some children with certain

demographic characteristics are at greater risk of reading difficulties than others.

Learning to read poses real challenges, even to children who will eventually become

good readers.

Throughout this program, teachers, together with the School Head planned for

a strategy that during remedial teaching teachers inject from their collaboration,

providing the most effective way such as methods, strategies, materials or design on

how to help learners who are good readers to become better readers and also learners

who had difficulties in reading to become also a better readers. Learning to read

possesses real challenges, it needs different strategies and more time to developed a

learner to become better reader.


EAGERNESS: With eagerness to learn, pupils trying their best to read in group.

Fun Time: The Kindergarten are happily reading and enjoying as they read together.
FIGHTING: Struggle in reading is not a hindrance as long as you read, read and
read for them to be a better reader.

PEER TUTORING: Remedial teaching in reading is done through peer tutoring


those learners who are struggling in reading.
TIME IS GOLD! The grade VI pupils rendering their vacant time by reading.

HOBBY: Trying to beat the struggling of reading? Make a hobby of reading to pass
time.

DELIGENCE: Minimize your time to play but maximize your time to read. The
Grade V pupils as they give time to read.

SPELL MO: The grade I pupil having their spelling time as the teacher utter the
word.
EFFORT: Even though tired from walking, they give time to read to learn a little
by little.
FOCUS: Reading not minding what surrounds you, as long as you learn on your
own. The Grade II pupils as they spent time reading during their class remedial
reading.
