Writing Paragraphs
Showing Problem and
Solution
Day 1
In your previous lesson, you have
learned how to write paragraph
showing comparison and contrast. To
compare means to identify similarities
between two or more things and
contrast identifies differences. This is
one of the important skills in writing.
It helps us organize information
efficiently.
Have you encountered problems that
needed an immediate solution?
1. It’s My Turn
A. Amel and Fidel both wanted to play the
new bike first. Mother told Amel that he
could play today. And Fidel would have his
turn to play tomorrow.
B. Amel and Fidel both wanted to play the
new bike. Who would start to play?
C. Their mother came and helped them
decide who would be the first to play. And
Fidel would have his turn to play tomorrow.
2. Report Card
A. Lily kept the incident in secret but
she decided to talk to her teacher about
it the next day.
B. Lily was terrified to show her grades
to her parents. She just laid it down on
the chair when she got home and her
younger sister tore it into pieces. She
was hoping there would be a way out
for her parents not to be aware of it.
C. On her way home, a strong rain
began to fall that caused Lily’s report
card to get wet while holding it. Instead
of panicking, Lily decided to talk to her
teacher about it the next day. Her
teacher printed a new report card, and
even put it in a special envelope for Lily
to take home to her parents again.
Directions: Based on the picture, write a
paragraph showing problem-solution
relationship by encircling the correct
phrases inside the parentheses.
Pollution is one of the greatest
threats to our environment in the 21st
century. The air is constantly being
polluted by smoke from factories and by
carbon monoxide (CO) and other
poisonous gases emitted by motor
vehicles. Even the ground we walk on -
in both urban and rural areas—is
polluted by uncollected garbage.
Water is also being polluted, particularly
due to untreated sewage, which kills
aquatic creatures like fishes and plants.
The best way to curb pollution is to (cut
trees, plant trees) and (care for them,
abuse for them). Throwing garbages
everywhere must also (be controlled, be
increased) in order to fight pollution on
the land. To fight the pollution of
of water, sewage treatment plants
(must be vanish, must be built). We
also must see that industrial effluents
are (not released directly, released
directly) into the rivers. Above all, we all
should join hands in maintaining the
ecological balance.
Directions: Write a paragraph showing a
problem and solution relationship using
the ideas in the graphic organizer. Just
choose 1 solution.
Direction: Choose the letter of the correct
solution or problem that is related to the
statements.
