There are already great books here on database management systems from all the other
answers. So, instead, I’ll suggest two books directly related to having a job managing and
developing database management systems.

First, Craig Mullins book, Database Administration. It’s a technology neutral overview of the
positions, jobs and responsibilities in and around database systems. It goes way beyond
being just a DBA and gets into report writers, developers and analysts. Absolutely worth a
read if you’re exploring this space as a potential career.

There are many great books on database management systems, and the best one for you will
depend on your background and the specific topics you're interested in. Here are a few
classic and widely-used books on the topic that are generally considered to be very
informative:

"Database System Concepts" by Abraham Silberschatz, Henry Korth, and S.

Sudarshan.

"An Introduction to Database Systems" by C. J. Date

"Database Management Systems" by Raghu Ramakrishnan and Johannes Gehrke

"A Guide to the SQL Standard" by C. J. Date and Hugh Darwen

"SQL and Relational Theory: How to Write Accurate SQL Code" by C. J. Date

These books cover the fundamentals of database management systems and provide a solid
understanding of the concepts and theory behind them. They also cover SQL, which is the
most widely used database programming language.

You also might be interested in NoSQL databases, and there are some good books on that
topic such as

"Designing Data-Intensive Applications" by Martin Kleppmann

"Seven Databases in Seven Weeks" by Eric Redmond and Jim Wilson

These books cover the modern distributed database systems and the trade offs in different
systems like Cassandra, MongoDB, Redis, Riak, etc
