Chapter I
Introduction
Conceptual understanding is where the learners can grasp the ideas in a transferable way.
Conceptual understanding is important in academics because conceptual understanding is
essentially about learning more than isolated facts; it is about understanding the relationships
between those facts and having them arranged correctly. ( UOTP MARKETING, 2022).
Conceptual understanding is when the learners try to comprehending questions and think deeply
so they can understand the lessons in contact center services two. It helps the learners to organize
knowledge and discover new concepts by combining what they understand. Enhancing the
conceptual understanding of learners is important because it affects the learners academic
performance, with the help of enhancing the conceptual understanding of learners the learners
will get benefits. In a world where technology is in vogue, many scientists have invented tools to
facilitate people’s work and one of the examples is text-to-speech app.
Technology is one of the most helpful machinery and developed from application of
scientific knowledge. In education, the learners and teachers or professors used technology.
Using technology has become increasingly popular and technology is a big help in their tasks or
works. One example of this is text-to-speech, invited by a Japanese researcher named Noriko
Umeda in Electrotehnical Laboratory, Japan, in 1968. Text-to-Speech is a type of assistive
technology that reads digital text aloud. It’s sometimes called “read aloud”. In text-to-speech, all
kinds of text files can be read aloud, including Word and Pages documents. Even online web
pages can be read (Jamie Martin, 2018).
8
Text-to-Speech is a big help and useful for learners. Learners using the Moodle learning
platform can now listen to learning content in more than 50 languages, thanks to a new
integration with digital voice and text-to-speech tool Read Speaker, read speaker is the first text-
to-speech provider to become a Certified Integration Partner with Moodle, making its
accessibility and engagement tools available to more than 200 million learners worldwide (Rhea
Kelly, 2022).
According to Roy Lindemann, chief marketing officer for Read Speaker, “Text to speech
is a great equalizer and force multiplier for online learning, opening new and exciting pathways
for engagement and mastery for millions of students, not just those needing accommodations,
this partnership is extremely significant to the institutions and students we both serve, including
those needing accommodations and those who simply want added capabilities to engage with
learning materials.” With the use of text-to-speech, the understanding of learners in Contact
Center Services Two will enhance.
This helps them to pronounce the words correctly through text-to-speech. Text-to-speech
also encourages learners to think deeper by expressing themselves by taking down their thoughts
9
and when their done text to speech tool does the rest like arranging the spelling correctly, adding
punctuation and others. (Emanuilov, S. 2020,)
Also, text-to-speech technology in Grade 12 Humanities and Social Science could benefit
learners who are pursuing their careers in call centers. Text-to-speech enabling learners to build a
strong understanding and enhance their communication skills in contact center services.
This study will provide insights into the benefits and limitations of using text-to-speech
technology in Grade 12 Humanities and Social Science learners. Text-to-speech can effectively
enhance understanding and this study explores improving the quality of education and preparing
learners for their successful careers in the contact center services
1. What are the least mastered competencies in Contact Center Services Two based
on the summative test results in the previous academic year 2022-2023?
2. What is the level of acceptability of the text to speech engine as assessed by the
teachers in the terms of LRMDS evaluation tool for non print materials?
4. Is there a significant difference in the pre test and post test mean scores of the
learners before and after the utilization of text to speech?
5. Based on the findings of this study, what learning plan may be developed?
n= Number of samples
N= Number of population
e= Margin of error
Rounded up to the nearest whole number, the sample size learners is 246
The respondents in this academic paper were limited to 50 Grade 12 Humanities and
Social Science learners of Immaculada Concepcion College.
This study provides valuable information on the use of Text-to-speech in Enhancing the
conceptual Understanding of Grade 12 Humanities and Social Science in Contact Center Service
two
Chapter II
This chapter includes the review of related literature and studies which the researchers
have perused to shed light on the topic under study.
According to Trivits, the Learning Tools and Technology Lead at ESME, the integration
of Read Speaker into their courses has significantly enhanced the learning experience for
learners. ESME, which utilizes the Open edX platform for employee education, has been able to
provide a comprehensive and inclusive learning environment through this integration. Learners
now have the option to listen to the content using text-to-speech (TTS), have words translated, or
read along with the TTS feature. (Trivits, 2022)
TTS software is frequently utilized as a compensatory tool, particularly at the
postsecondary level. It has proven effective in helping students enhance their reading speed,
fluency, and ability to retain content. Moreover, it has contributed to an increase in students’
self-confidence in their reading skills and their ability to learn independently. Given these
positive outcomes, there is a clear necessity to allocate resources for training and technology to
support students in utilizing TTS effectively. (Raffoul & Jaber, 2023)

Theoretical framework
This study is anchored on the Cognitive Load Theory introduced by John Sweller
in 1988. He stated that the working memory of a person has a limited capacity and can
only handle a small amount of information at a time. This theory focuses on the capacity
of human working memory and how it impacts learning. The theory suggests that
instructional methods should be designed to align with the limitations of individuals’
working memory.
By applying the Cognitive Load Theory in this study, text-to-speech can help
improve the conceptual understanding of learners and enhance the instrumental method.
15
Using text-to-speech in the field of education, teachers can apply the principles of
Cognitive Load Theory to improve students’ conceptual understanding This is because
using technology in the field of education can distribute the cognitive load of learners.
Conceptual framework
This figure show that the use of text to speech is Independent Variable that effects.
Definition of terms
Algorithms- Are procedures for solving problems and are used to convert written text into
spoken words.
Autonomy- Allows students to operate independently in their learning without the help of a
human operator.
Allocate resources- This is the process of identifying their available resources, which enables
them to do their best work.
Concentration- Is about their deeper understanding of the topic at hand.

Research Instrument
This study used post-test, pre-test and questionnaires that are used to survey for
collect comprehensive data from the target participants information’s. In the post-test,
participants will not use text-to-speech apps, and in the pre-test, participants will use text-
to-speech apps to compare whether there is improvement after using text-to-speech apps.
The questionnaire consisted of fifty participants of grade12 humanities and social
science students. This instrument will aim to find out how the use of text-to-speech apps
affects especially in learnings.
Validation of Research Instrument
The pre-test, post-test and questionnaire used in the survey were given to the
research educators for concern in the analysis and suggestions will be considered in
revising the instruments. The pre-test, post-test and questionnaire will be verified by fifty
(50) humanities and social science students. As they are asked to answer their response
will test the truthfulness of the questionnaire.
.
Data Gathering Procedure
The researchers conducted this study by creating a form to facilitate a survey.
They also sought their teacher’s assistance for a questionnaire, which included a pre-test
and post-test, to be used in the survey. Their targeted respondents were Grade 12
Humanities and Social Sciences students at Immaculada Conception College.
The data to be gathered in this study will be subjected to the following statistical
treatment:
Simple Percentage. This will be used to determine the average of the responses and to
provide specific explanation of the statistical treatment involving percentages in our research.
This will be analyzed using simple percentage with the following formula:
Formula:
P= f/N x 50
Where:
P=percentage
F=frequency of each category
N=total number of respondents
50=constant multiplier
Slovin’s Formula. Slovin’s formula played a crucial role in determining the appropriate
sample size for our study. Slovin’s formula is used to determine the appropriate number of
participants in the survey.
Formula:
N/1+N(e²)
Where:
N=the sample size
N=the population size
E=the desired margin of error
By using slovin’s formula, researcher are able to balance between taking a representative
sample and managing the practical barriers of time resources.
Weighted Mean. This statistical tool will be used to compute the weight of the responses
in the questionnaire assigned by the respondents during the data gathering procedure.
Formula:
WM= Efx/n
Where:
WM=weighted mean
E=summation symbol
F=frequency of respondents
20
X=score
N=total number of frequency/respondents.
