Introduction:
Library management system
2
The purpose of a library management system is to operate a library with efficiency and at reduced costs. The
system being entirely automated streamlines all the tasks involved in operations of the library. The activities
of book purchasing, cataloging, indexing, circulation recording and stock checking are done by the software.
Such software eliminates the need for repetitive manual work and minimizes the chances of error.
The library management system software helps in reducing operational costs. Managing a library manually
is labor intensive and an immense amount of paperwork is involved. An automated system reduces the need
for manpower and stationery. This leads to lower operational costs.
The system saves time for both the user and the librarian. With just a click the user can search for the books
available in the library. The librarian can answer queries with ease regarding the availability of books.
Adding, removing or editing the database is a simple process. Adding new members or cancelling existing
memberships can be done with ease.
Stock checking and verification of books in the library can be done within a few hours. The automated
system saves a considerable amount of time as opposed to the manual system.
The library management system software makes the library a smart one by organizing the books
systematically by author, title and subject. This enables users to search for books quickly and effortlessly.
Existing Survey:
Library management systems (LMS) are small or medium-sized applications used by librarians to
manage library records. They can help librarians manage library resources and operations by
automating tasks, streamlining processes, and enhancing accessibility.

Some benefits of LMS include:
Keeping track of the number of books in the library, how many are issued, and how many are
returned or renewed
Identifying books quickly
Issuing and reissuing books quickly
Handling all of the data in an efficient and organized manner
Enabling library staff work more efficiently
Simplifying the librarian's role
Motivation:
Reduces overheads: An LMS can help libraries reduce costs and increase productivity.
Reduces manual tasks: An LMS can help libraries avoid manual tasks like updating records and
checking circulation statuses.
Reduces risk of error: An LMS can automate the cataloging process, which can help reduce the risk
of human error and ensure records are accurate and up to date.
Helps librarians: An LMS can help librarians easily locate and manage books, journals, and other
materials.
Helps libraries maximize resources: An LMS can help libraries maximize the use of every resource,
even when they have limited budgets.
Helps management: An LMS can help management keep track of all existing materials.
Helps maintain records: An LMS can help maintain all library functions, including keeping records
of all transactions of the books available in the library.

Objectives:
Easy access
Librarians can access library data from anywhere using their computers or smartphones.
Automated reports
Library management software can help library staff manage patron accounts, check-in and check-out
materials, track overdue materials, and generate statistical reports.
Cataloguing
A standardized cataloging system can help users find books and periodicals easily.
Better management
A library management system can help improve the management of libraries in a city or town.
Circulation
A library management system can display what the library contains, including databases, profiles,
and payment of fines
Methodology:
To develop the Library Management System Software, There we are decided the three Different layers-
Presentation Layer, Logical Layer and Database Layer. In Presentation Layer to design the interface of the
software. In Logical Layer to decide and write the program for to performing the library task execution
under the decide module. In Database layer to analysis and design the database of the Module

Conclusion:
This paper mainly focuses on how we can improve the traditional method of working of a library because
the traditional method includes doing all the things in manual mode which is slow, less efficient, less secure,
and difficult to manage. The solution to this is an online library management system which take care of all
the work by automating and digitizing the whole process. Our application is based on PHP and is linked to a
relational database (sql). With the increase in the workload of the library, new features can be added to the
existing application to make it relevant in the future as well
