1. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) (Links to an external site.) is a historic
document that affirms the rights of every human person. It was adopted by the United
Nations General Assembly on December 10, 1948 in light of the atrocities of Second World
War. Read the article How are today’s biggest tech trends affecting our human
rights (Links to an external site.)by Ruth Hickin. How are today’s three biggest
technological trends impacting these rights?

There is no doubt that technology is a great help in our economy, making

businesses transactions easier and consumer-seller communication can be done in
everyone’s convenience. The role of businesses, who will both create and utilize new
technologies, is a critical issue. Will the private sector develop and deploy technologies in
a way that is consistent with respect for human rights, and that builds in appropriate
safeguards to prevent and mitigate negative human rights outcomes At the same time,
governments must also focus on their duty and examine how to ensure that businesses
act responsibly.
Digital channels like social media platforms also mean that public sentiment can be
reliably understood. It also makes it very easy for the public to become aware of injustices
in the world and can help social movements gain momentum. This can effectively mobilize
people to advocate for their rights and campaign against human rights abuses while they
are happening.
Empowered with these new tools, we have to think increasingly about associated
risks and ethical considerations, so we do not end up doing more harm than good. There
are also downsides to new apps, tools and cameras everywhere. To name just one
example, we have to think critically of how we share and integrate citizen evidence in the
form of YouTube videos that show human rights violations, in order to protect survivors’
privacy and not re-victimize them.
2. Find and examine two (2) local government policies or laws that protect the well-being of
the person in the face of new technologies. Explain briefly how these policies address
the ethical concerns in the technological era.

The technological advances of this generation have been nothing but ceaseless in
a way that the future seems to be unimaginable due to innovative ideas integrated by the
technology. However, there are always two sides to the story. Modern technologies bring
harm as much as it provides advantages. In a world where everything is an open book,
privacy is compromised. Internet is always associated with the word “malware”. Due to the
growing numbers of internet users, the number of victims of bad-natured people who take
advantage of this innovation also increases. Hence, the government impose Republic Act
10173 – Data Privacy Act of 2012 that protects people from the spread of personal
information.
The issue with data privacy has been timely and relevant to the use of the internet
since the spread of such information within the platforms of several social media has been
unstoppable. In the worst-case scenario, identity theft will. Furthermore, everything can be
accessed online. You can search up the dumbest question that keeps you awake at night,
and you can also look for an article that will support your hypotheses. However, plagiarism
emerges. The issue of plagiarism in online class setup is widespread. In many situations
where students do not know something, the internet can be of a helping hand but there will
always come a time wherein students do rampant cheating and copying. Thus, the
implementation of various plagiarism checkers in different platforms is set to be the solution
to this contemporary issue. With this, the credit is due to the rightful owner of the work.
