Introduction
Petrel* is a software application developed by Schlumberger. It provides extensive
support for subsurface workflows undertaken by geologist, geophysicists,
petrophysicists and reservoir engineers across the various phases of oil and gas
exploration and production. Petrel allows you to interpret and analyze seismic
data, incorporate and interpret well logs and petrophysics, build geological models,
build and run simulation models and incorporate production data. Petrel is one of
the best simulation tool in the market. It provides an interface to visualize 2D
and 3D seismic data for seismic interpretation. One can process data, integrate
data, visualize data and interpret data. It covers all prospects of reservoir
engineering including petrophysics and geophysics as well. It helps in reduction
of the risk and uncertainty while drilling.
Application
Petrel software is used for the 3D geologic modeling, which features a full use of
drilling, seismic, well log and stratigraphic correlation data. In addition,
the reservoir model prepared by Petrel show the distribution of reserves more
accurately. It allows the user to interpret seismic data, perform well correlation,
build reservoir models, visualize reservoir simulation results, calculate volumes,
produce maps and design development strategies to maximize reservoir
exploitation.

Procedure
For 3D view of the reservoir:
Step 1:
Double click the “loader.exe” file
Click “open” and type any file name and click “open”
Run the program
Step 2:
Click “file”

Click “survey-1” and right click in the mouse and click “import on
selection” and select all the file and click “open” and click “ok” and
click “ok for all” and click “close”

Step 6:
Click “interpretation folder 1” and right click the mouse and click
“insert seismic horizon”

Step 7:
Click any even SEG file for manual interpretation

Click “process” and click “geophysics” and clicks “seismic
interpretation” and click “seismic horizon 1” and click “manual
interpretation” for interpretation.
