SCIENCE 7

4TH QUARTER
WEEK 1
 NORTHERN HEMISPHERE

IT IS THE HALF OF THE EARTH

NORTH OF THE EQUATOR.
SOUTHERN HEMISPHERE
IT IS THE HALF OF THE EARTH
SOUTH OF THE EQUATOR.
 LATITUDE
AN IMAGINARY LINE AROUND
THE EARTH PARALLEL TO THE
EQUATOR.
 LONGITUDE
A MEASURE OF THE HE
RELATIVE POSITION EAST OR
WEST ON THE EARTH'S
SURFACE GIVEN IN DEGREES
FROM A CERTAIN MERIDIAN.
 EQUATOR
THE GREAT CIRCLE OF THE EARTH WITH
A LATITUDE OF 0⁰ LYING EQUIDISTANT
FROM THE POLES DIVIDING THE
NORTHERN AND SOUTHERN
HEMISPHERE.
PRIME MERIDIAN
THE ZERO MERIDIAN (0⁰) USED AS A
REFERENCE LINE FROM WHICH
LONGITUDE EAST AND WEST IS
MESURED.IT PASSES THROUGH
GREENWICH, ENGLAND.
 INTERNATIONAL DATE LINE
(IDL)
 IT IS LOCATED AT 180⁰ LONGITUDE.
 IT PASSES THROUGH THE MIDDLE OF THE
PACIFIC OCEAN.
 IT IS ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE EARTH
TO PRIME MERIDIAN.
 IT DEMARCATES ONE CALENDAR DAY FROM
THE NEXT.
LOCATING PLACES ON THE EARTH
 Every place and location on earth has a global address.
 No matter what language people might speak they can
communicate about location because the address is in
numbers.
 A global address is given as two numbers called
coordinates.
 Using coordinate system points maybe located by labelling
them with numbers.
 The two numbers are a location's latitude number and it's
longitude number.
Activity 1
Direction: complete the paragraph
below.
Points Coordinates Longitude
Numbers Latitude
One way of locating places is by using
___________. Coordinate system is a
way of locating __________by labelling
them with _________ called coordinates.
In a global address the two number
represent ___________ and ___________.

Activity 1
1. Coordinates
2. Points
3. Numbers
4. Latitude
5. Longitude
WEEK 2
Wind
 Wind energy turns two or three propeller like
blades around a root.
 The rotor is connected to the main shaft
which spins a generator to create electricity.
Sun
 Solar panels work by absorbing sunlight
generating direct current (DC) energy and then
converting it to usable alternating current (AC)
energy with the help of inverter technology.

 AC energy the flows through the nome's

electrical panel and distributed accordingly.
Geothermal
Hot water is pumped from deep underground through a
well under high pressure.
When the water reaches these surface, the pressure is
ropped, which causes the water to turn into stem.
The steam spins a turbine which is connected to a
generator that produces electricity.
Natural gas
 The Malampaya deep water gas to power project
signaled the birth of the natural gas industry in
the Philippines .
 It delivers up to 20% of the country's electricity
requirements using indigenous resources of
natural gas the cleaned burning hydrocarbon and
it reduces the need for imported oil .
Lesson 4
Conservation of natural
resources
Coal
 Coal-fired plants produce electricity by burning
coal in a boiler under tromendous pressure.
 It flows into a turbine which spins generator to
create electricity.
 The steam is then coded, condensed back into
water return to the boiler to the process over.
Natural Resources
 These natural resources maybe
classified into renewable resources.
 Renewable resources are those that
can be used repeatedly just like water
and wind.
Type of Renewable Energies
Biomas energy
Hydrower energy
Solar energy
Wind energy
Geothermal energy
Non - renewable resources are those that cannot be
replaced easily like fossil fuel minerals, and soil.
Fossil fuel comes from the remains of plants and animals
that are burned thousands of years ago.
Fossil took a lot of years before it is formed into fuel that
we are enjoying today. It cannot be replaced easily.
The rate that we are consuming it is a lot faster than the
rate it when it was produced.
How can people manage the use
of Earth's resources
 Conservation is key. Conservation is the wise use of natural resources.
 Here are some ways to protect and sustain the needs of humankind.
1. Forest must be manage efficiently to regain continued supply of
resources.
2. Protect wildlife by implementing strict laws and creating awareness
programs.
3. Use water wiselyto ensure it's lastingsupply .
4. Measure to conserve minerals.
4.1. Use of minerals in a planned and
sustainable manner.
4.2. Recycling of metals.
4.3. Use of alternative renewable
substitutes.
4.4. Improvement of technology to use the
low-grade ore's profitably.
How can you help in conserving
our natural resources?

 We can start with the very basic we

start with ourselves.
 In our own little ways,we can be good
stewards of planet earth.
It is as simple as:
1.Turning off the faucet and electricals appliances
when not in use.
2. Planting trees,crops,vegatable and ornamental
plants.
3. Walking short distances instead of riding a
vehicles.
4.Participating in environment awarenessprograms
of the community.
