A SEMI-DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS IV

I. OBJECTIVES

At the end of a 50- minute discussion, learners are expected to:

a. identify and describe the different kinds of quadrilaterals;
b. differentiate the characteristics of the different kinds of quadrilaterals;
c. create common figures using quadrilaterals;
d. complete a sequence of quadrilaterals using patterns.

II. SUBJECT MATTER:

a. Topic: Quadrilaterals
b. Reference: Mathematics 4: Self-Learning Module, pp.14-15
c. Most Essential Learning Competency: Identifies and describes the different kinds of
quadrilaterals: square, rectangle, parallelogram, trapezoid, and rhombus
(M4GEIIIc-17)
d. Materials: jigsaw puzzles, power point presentation, speaker, projector, & monitor
e. Value Infusion: Cooperation, Appreciation of God’s Creation, Respect to the Flag

III. PROCEDURE:

1. Preliminary Activities

A. Daily Routine: 5. Established safe and secure learning

a. Prayer environments to enhance learning
b. Cleanliness of Classroom through the consistent
c. Checking of Attendance implementation of policies, guidelines
d. Classroom rules and procedure.
B. Drill:
Flashcards: Identify the polygons represented by the following objects.
C. Review:

Game: Kinds of Triangles According to Sides and Angles

The learners will be grouped into 4. Each group will be given cut-outs of different
triangles. Each time the teacher flashes the description of a triangle, the learners
will choose from the cut-outs the triangle being described.

D. Motivation:

1. Group Activity: Arranging Puzzle Pieces

2. Reflection on the quotation formed, “The most essential things in life are
invisible to the eye.”- Little Prince
2. Lesson Proper:
A. Presentation of the Lesson

What are the shapes that you used to form the quotation?
What are their similarities and differences?
What do you call the shapes that have 4 sides?

B. Discussion of the Lesson:

What are quadrilaterals? How are they different and similar triangles?
What are the different kinds of quadrilaterals? Describe each of them.
How is a trapezoid different / similar from/to parallelogram?
How is a square differ/similar from/to rectangle?
How is rhombus different/ similar from/to square?

3. Guided Practice 6.Maintained learning environments that

promote fairness respect and care to
encourage learning
Group 1
Write “TING-TING” if the sentence is True and “TING-TANG” if it is not.
____ 1. A parallelogram has 4 equal sides, 2 equal obtuse angles in the opposite sides, and 2
equal acute angles in the other opposite sides.

____ 2. The shape on the left has only one pair of opposite sides that are parallel.

____ 3. The shape on the left has 4 equal sides, 2 equal obtuse angles in the
opposite sides, and 2 equal acute angles in the other opposite sides.

____ 4. A quadrilateral is a kind of a polygon.

____ 5. The shape on the left is a kind of Quadrilateral that has only one pair of
parallel side.

Group 2
Identify the following quadrilaterals. Color them correctly.
1.Applied knowledge of
Rhombus- red content within and
across curriculum teaching areas. (Arts)
Square-blue
Rectangle- orange
Parallelogram- yellow
Trapezoid- green
Group 3
Look carefully at the pictures below. Decide how many right angles, pairs of parallel sides, and pairs
of congruent sides each has. Then encircle the words that describe what kind of figure it is. You may
encircle more than one word for some figures.

Group 4
Complete the sequence by drawing the next 2 figures.

2.Used a range a teaching strategy that

enhance learner achievement in
literacy and numeracy skills.
4. Independent Practice:
Using all the quadrilaterals, draw any artwork or object of your choice and color it.
Quadrilaterals can be used repeatedly and you may use other shapes if needed.

5. Application:
Name some of the common objects that is quadrilateral in shape.
Can we easily identify any object using its shape?
Imagine if all objects around us have the same shapes, will it be easy/
hard for you to identify them?
3.Applied a range of teaching strategies to
develop critical and creative thinking skills,
6. Generalization as well as other higher-order thinking
skills.
What is a quadrilateral?
What are the different kinds of quadrilaterals? Describe each kind.

IV. Evaluation:
