1 - GENERAL
Manual scope
This software operating guide covers the CNH Industrial ISO Depth Monitoring System that is installed on your imple-
ment. This software operating guide does not cover general display usage, Global Positioning System (GPS) setup,
data management, autoguidance, or in-depth use of the CNH Industrial task controller. You should read the display
software operating guide, autoguidance software operating guide, and task controller software operating guide to un-
derstand these topics before you read this software operating guide.

Introduction
The CNH Industrial ISO Depth Monitoring System uses a non-contact radar sensor to monitor the working depth of
your implement. The depth sensor communicates tillage depth to the Implement Depth Module (IDM) which, through
the task controller, interfaces with your vehicle display.

The vehicle display provides:

• monitoring of implement depth through the universal terminal, using a vertical “lightbar”, or graphical representation
of real-time implement depth.
• a real-time, as-applied depth map layer as you operate in the field, if supported by the display.

Your implement depth information can be exported in the appropriate file formats for processing with farm manage-
ment software, or directly transferred to your AFS Connect or MYPLMCONNECT portal account with the appropriate
display, telematics modem, and telematics file transfer subscription.
NOTE: With the PCM used as the AFS Connect or MYPLMCONNECT telematics modem, the file transfer subscription
is included in the AFS Connect or MYPLMCONNECT Advanced subscription.

Requirements
Use of the ISO Depth Monitoring System requires:
• The ISO Depth Monitoring Kit – Includes the radar sensor, implement depth module, mounting hardware, and ca-
bling to interface with the tractor ISO 11783 control system
• An ISO 11783-compliant vehicle display, such as the IntelliView™ IV/IntelliView™ 12 or AFS® Pro 700/AFS®
Pro 1200 display
• Task controller activation (if required) on the vehicle display

Electrical connections
The implement depth module communicates with the
vehicle display through the standardized nine-way ISO
11783 (“ISOBUS”) receptacle on the back of the tractor.
Attach the connector nine-way connector on the depth
monitor cabling to the appropriate receptacle (1) on the
back of the tractor.

If your tractor does not have an ISO 11783-compliant ve-

hicle display, aftermarket installations are available that
provide the display, cabling, and ISOBUS receptacle that
mounts on the back of the tractor. For more information,
see your authorized dealer.

Working with an application in the Universal Terminal (UT)

NOTE: Throughout this manual, the terms “universal terminal” and “virtual terminal” refer to the same screen used to
view ISOBUS implement controls in the display.

Whenever the display is powered ON and the depth monitor cabling is connected to the tractor, the implement au-
tomatically uploads its software components to the display. The implement will load in the universal terminal of any
ISO 11783-compliant display. Two examples using CASE IH / NEW HOLLAND display solutions are outlined below,
however, any ISO 11783-compliant display can be used with the ISO Depth Monitoring System. For instructions to
operate the universal terminal through other brand displays, obtain the appropriate documentation from the dealer or
display manufacturer.

Using the IntelliView™ IV or AFS® Pro 700 display

When operating a tractor equipped with the IntelliView™ IV or AFS® Pro 700 display, two icons display in the status
and warning icon area while the components load into the universal terminal.

The object pool icon displays while the implement uploads its components to the display. The
first time the implement is connected to the display, it is necessary to wait two to three minutes
for the object pool to load into the universal terminal.

The diskette icon displays when the software from the ISOBUS implement is being recalled
from memory, as the software is already stored in the Non-Volatile Memory (NVM) of the
display.

NOTE: In certain circumstances, such as if the tractor has

several other implement object pools or other pieces of
software, you may be required to initially wait upwards of
10 minutes for the software components to load.

Once the components are loaded, the implement is ready

for use.

From the “Home” screen, press the "ISOBUS” icon to ac-

cess the universal terminal.

Using the IntelliView™ 12 or AFS® Pro 1200 display

When operating a tractor equipped with the display, the
software components from the implement depth module
automatically load in the universal terminal.

With the default run screen layout, go to Run Screen 7 to

monitor the loading status (1).
NOTE: Loading the software for the first time may take
several minutes, depending on the complexity of the im-
plement. When you attach the implement at a later time,
the display will recall the software from memory if the soft-
ware in the implement has not changed.

When the object pool is loaded, the implement controls

Press the fields to define the following implement

information:
Bar distance (A), the distance from the pivot point
(drawbar or hitch) to the application point (ground-en-
gaging tool or seed tube).
Width (B), the working width of the implement.

Make sure that the implement dimensions on this screen

are accurate, as these values are sent to the Task Con-
troller in the display for accurate mapping of depth and
coverage.

Press the next button (1) to continue.

NHIL20PLM1172AA 3

Define the work control trigger. The work control trigger is

defined as the depth at which data starts or stops logging
depth and coverage data in the display.

Press the field (1) to define the work control trigger depth.
Enter a negative value for a distance above the ground,
and enter a positive value for a distance below the ground.

For example, enter a value of -5 cm (-2 in) if you wish to

enter and exit the work state when the implement is 5 cm
(2 in) above the ground.

Press the next button (2) to continue.

NHIL20PLM0927AA 4

Two sensor calibration methods are available to

ensure high depth-monitoring accuracy. Your selection
depends on the implement type and sensor mounting
arrangement.
• Quick Calibration (1) – Recommended for trailed im-
plements or implements where the sensor experiences
near vertical movement. The quick calibration performs
a zero-point calibration with the implement resting on
the ground.
• Working Calibration (2) – Recommended for three-point
mounted implements or implements with complex ge-
ometry. The working calibration records depth values
when the implement is resting on the ground and when
the implement is engaged in the soil.

Press the help button (3) for a brief explanation of each NHIL20PLM1468AA 5
calibration procedure.

vertical lightbar, if desired.
When the lightbar is inverted, the bars on the lightbar
rise as the implement depth increases.
When the lightbar is not inverted (default setting), the
bars on the lightbar fall as the implement depth in-
creases.

The lightbar increment determines the depth at which the “too shallow” or “too deep” alarms are triggered if the depth
remains for the duration of the “Time To Alert” time setting. The “too deep” or “too shallow” regions are indicated by
the red blocks on the lightbar.

To calculate the “too deep” depth, Multiply the lightbar increment value by seven and add this value to the target
depth.
Example: Target depth 10 IN [25 CM] + 7 X Lightbar Increment 1 IN [2.5 CM] = “Too Deep” Depth 17 IN [42.5 CM]

To calculate the “too shallow” depth, Multiply the lightbar increment value by seven and subtract this value from
the target depth.
Example: Target depth 10 IN [25 CM] – 7 X Lightbar Increment 1 IN [2.5 CM] = “Too Shallow” Depth 3 IN [7.5 CM]

"Height Calibration" screen

Select “Height Calibration” (1) from the drop-down menu.

Two sensor calibration methods are available to

ensure high depth-monitoring accuracy. Your selection
depends on the implement type and sensor mounting
arrangement.
• Quick Calibration (2) – Recommended for trailed im-
plements or implements where the sensor experiences
near vertical movement. The quick calibration performs
a zero-point calibration with the implement resting on
the ground.
• Working Calibration (3) – Recommended for three-point
mounted implements or implements with complex ge-
ometry. The working calibration records depth values
when the implement is resting on the ground and when
the implement is engaged in the soil. NHIL20PLM1642AA 1

After the calibration option is selected, select one of the

available functions:
• Recalibrate Ground Height (1) – Perform the zero-point
calibration for the radar sensor.
• Recalibrate Sensor Ratio (2) – Perform the quick cal-
ibration or the working calibration that was performed
during system setup.

NHIL20PLM1642AA 2

Recalibrate Ground Height

Press the “Recalibrate Ground Height” button to perform
the zero-point calibration for the radar sensor.

The ground height wizard appears.

With the tractor stopped, lower the implement until it is

resting on the ground. Make sure that the mounted radar
sensor is at least 20 cm (8 in) from the ground when the
implement is resting on the ground.

Press the next button (1) to continue.

2 - SETUP

Verify that the “Current Depth” field (1) shows 0.0 cm

(0.0 in) when the implement is resting on the ground.

If the value is not zero, press the back button (2) to set
the ground height again.

If the value is zero, press the finish button (3) to return to

the setup screens.

NHIL20PLM0946AA 4

Recalibrate Sensor Ratio – Quick calibration

With the tractor stopped, lower the implement until it is
resting on the ground. Make sure that the mounted radar
sensor is at least 20 cm (8 in) from the ground when the
implement is resting on the ground.

Press the next button (1) to record the distance between

the radar sensor and the ground.

NHIL20PLM0929AA 5

Raise the implement to the maximum height out of the

ground, and then measure the distance from the ground
to the bottom of the ground-engaging component on the
implement.

For example, if the ISO Depth Monitoring System is in-

stalled on a disc harrow, measure the distance from the
ground to the very bottom of the disc.

Press the field (1) and enter the measured distance. This
distance allows the system to calculate an offset based
on the measured height at the ground-engaging tool and
the measured height at the radar sensor.

After you input the height change, press the next button
to confirm the value and proceed.

2 - SETUP

The software performs two checks to ensure the

calibration is successful. If either of the following checks
fail, you must remedy the condition before you can
proceed with the calibration.
• Height change sufficient – The detected change in
height must be at least 10.2 cm (4 in) between the
ground and the working height.
• The sensor ratio must be greater than 0.25 and less
than 3.0.

When both checks are successful, press the next button

(1) to complete the calibration.

Lightbar
The vertical lightbar allows you to monitor the real-time
depth of your implement. Use the lightbar as an indicator
to make height adjustments as you travel across the field.

With the non-inverted (default) lightbar:

The lightbar rises and the blocks (2) become colored
as the implement depth decreases (raises out of the
ground).
The lightbar falls and the blocks become colored as the
implement depth increases (lowers into the ground).

The behavior reverses when you invert the lightbar.

The white arrows (1) indicate the target depth that you
set in the setup wizard, the setup screens, or the home
screen.
NHIL20PLM0937AA 3

The blocks of the lightbar are colored yellow, green, or

red, depending on how much the measured implement
depth deviates from the target depth.
• Ideal – (1) and (4) –The blocks are green if the actual
depth is within three lightbar increments of the target
depth.
• Away from target depth – (2) and (5) – The blocks are
yellow if the actual depth is between four and six lightbar
increments of the target depth.
• Too far from target depth – (3) and (6) – The blocks
are red if the actual depth is between seven and eight
lightbar increments of the target depth. If the lightbar
displays red blocks, then the “too shallow” or “too deep” NHIL20PLM0960AA 4

alarm triggers if the depth remains for the duration of the

“Time To Alert” time setting.

Depth settings
The current depth (1) shows the actual implement depth
as calculated by the Implement Depth Module (IDM).
The arrow (2) indicates the direction from which the
measurement is taken.
The arrow points up if the implement is out of the
ground.
The arrow points down if the implement is in the ground.

The target depth (3) shows the value that was defined
in the setup wizard, or configured in the “Depth Range
Settings” screen.

Press the plus or minus buttons (4) to adjust the target

depth value. Press the “Set Target” button (5) to set the
target depth at the actual measured depth of the imple-
ment. The lightbar updates to reflect the actual depth as
NHIL20PLM0937AA 5
compared to the new target depth.

Alarms
Two alarms are available during operation:
• Target too shallow
• Target too deep

The ISO Depth Monitoring System uses the red region on the lightbar to indicate a “too deep” or “too shallow” region
that, along with the user-defined time (“Time To Alert”), defines the criteria for triggering these alarms.

To configure the “Time To Alert” value, see “’Alarm Settings’ screen” (2-15).

To configure the “too deep” or “too shallow” region (“Lightbar Increment” setting), see “’Depth Range Settings’ screen”
(2-12).
The “Target Too Shallow” alarm (522956.0) appears when
the actual depth is in the “too shallow” region (red) for the
user-defined “Time To Alert” setting.

Press the green check mark button (1) to

acknowledge the warning.
NOTE: The universal terminal on the display
may also provide a button to acknowledge
pop-up windows.

NHIL20PLM0961AA 1

The “Target Too Deep” alarm (522956.1) appears when

the actual depth is in the “too deep” region (red) for the
user-defined “Time To Alert” setting.

Performance monitoring
The performance screens provide performance monitoring within the universal terminal.

The performance screens allow you to:

• View the performance graph and values for average depth, speed, and elapsed time from the current power cycle
• View a resettable performance graph and values for average depth, speed, and elapsed time from the current power
cycle
NOTE: The performance graphs do not maintain data through power cycles.

Ideally, the shape of the performance graphs should resemble a bell curve, with the most time spent in the green
region and the least time spent in the red region.

Use the performance graphs to determine if you need to make adjustments to your implement to better control the
depth as you work in the field.

From the home screen, press the performance softkey to navigate to the performance screens.
