Now, we know how to edit the text in MS-Word

We want our text to look different and more attractive. For this purpose, we can format text. Formatting
is general arrangment of text. It is used to change appearence of text by using various fonts, colors,
sizees, styles. Formatting helps in highlighting important text in document, and makes it look more
attractive. Software packages, like MS-Office, have some standard or pre-defined settings. Such settings
are called default setting. For example, default font in MS-Word is Times New Roman. Formatting helps
in changing default settings of computer, as per your wish

CHARACTER FORMATTING
It means displaying text in certain way
It consists of text properties= Bold, Italic, Underline, Font type, Font size, Font colour
FOLLOWING STEPS ARE FOLLOWED TO APPLY CHARACTER FORMATTING
(A). Select text to formatted
(B). Click on Format- Font
(C). The font dialog box appears
Now, select following formatting options from Font dialog box
1. In Font dialog box, select font for text. Font is set of letters, numbers, symbols of given size and design
that may be displayed or printed. The default font is Times New Roan
2. In Font Style box, select font style- Regular, Italic, Bold, Bold Italic
(A). Regular refers to normal text
(B). Italics means slanted text
(C). Bold means darker then normal text
(D). Bold Italic means that text is both bold and italic
3. In Font Size box, select size for text. Font size means height of letters or other characters. Font sizes
are measured in units called points. The default font size is 10
4. From Font Colour drop-down list, select colour for text
5. From Underline style drop-dow list, select Underline style you want. By selecting this option, you will
get underline beneath text you want to underlined
6. From Underline colour drop-down list, select colour for underline
7. You can also select special effects from Effects list by selecting check boxes. Some special effects are
shown below in right side of window
(A). Click text effects tab of font dialog box
(B). MS-Word has 6 text effects which you can apply to text
(C). Click OK button to close the Font dialog box
(D). The changes will now be applied to selected text

HIGHLIGHTING TEXT
Text is highlighted to make it attractive it draws attention of reader. Highlighted text has coloured box
around it similar to box which appears around text selected by box
(A). Click Highlight button on Formatting toolbar
(B). Select text you wish to highlight
(C). The selected text gets highlighted
CHANGING HIGHLIGHT COLOUR
The colour of highlight can be changed in document is you do not like colour you used to highlight text
FOLLOWING STEPS ARE FOLLOWED TO CHANGE HIGHLIGHT COLOR
(A). Click arrow next to highlight button
(B). Select new colour you want to replace current colour with
(C). Select text you want to highlight with selected colour

REMOVING HIGHLIGHT COLOUR


You can remove highlight colour from document if it obstructs readability or gives text cluttered look
FOLLOWING STEPS ARE FOLLOWED TO REMOVE THE HIGHLIGHT COLOUR
(A). Select highlighted text
(B). Click arrow next to highlight button and select None

ALIGNING TEXT
It is technique of placing text between margins of page. The text can be linked up at left side, at centre or
at right side of page
FOLLOWING STEPS ARE FOLLOWED TO CHANGE ALIGNMENT OF TEXT
(A). Select text
(B). Click required button on formatting toolbar

APPLYING BORDERS AND SHADING


FOLLOWING STEPS ARE FOLLOWED TO APPLY BORDERS & SHADING TO TEXT
1. Select text
2. Select Format- Borders & Shading
3. The Borders & Shading dialog box appear
4. Under setting section, click on Box
5. Under Style section, select line style
6. Select colour
7. Select Width
8. Click drop-down arrow of apply to section and select text option
9. Click on OK button
