How to Study Effectively for an Exam

Background: Studying is one of the most important techniques that you need to
know in college. Studying helps you improve your knowledge and strengthens
your memory on new information that is learnt. Most people learn a beneficial way
to study in high school and continue to study that way in college. Sometimes the
way a student studies in high school does not always benefit them in college. The
college material can require a lot more effort and attention. There are some classes
that require a lot of studying because the material is very dense. In college there
are many individuals that want to study effectively for the exam but don’t know
where to begin.

Summary: We have conducted a usability test for a website that gives student
more information on ways to study. The participants had to type the website name
into Google. From here we asked the students to navigate through the new website
and point out things that caught their attention. At the end of the usability test
students reported that the app was helpful, but they don’t think that people will be
interested by just seeing it advised on social media. The results also reported that
that there were problems accessing the website.

Results: In the “How to Study Effectively for an Exam” instructions, we were able
to take the given data from the participants and use them to improve our
instructions. These finding have helped us make the tips more accessible to the
general population of college students.

Finding 1: Making the Instructions Accessible to Students in Person

The results of the usability test have stated that over half of the participants believe
that the instructions are not accessible to students who don’t use social media apps.
This is a problem because our website is where we display the instructions that we
have made.
Finding 2: A Different Way to Access the Instructions

The participants of the test expressed that the website link was also not very
accessible for students. While trying to pull up the website many students were
unable to find it. During the test the participants needed to type the name of
website in a search engine to find the instructions. The participants didn’t have the
right website because there were a few with a similar name.

Conclusions: Once taking these actions, the students’ grades will more than likely
improve. The students that are failing should have better grades because of the
studying tips that they were provided with. The study tips that are provided for the
university students will give them a good foundation to start their education on.
Once the students’ grades start to improve that will also be a better look for the
departments of the college. This will raise the passing rate for a lot of courses.
While this is happening the graduation rate will also increase in numbers.

Based on the feedback, we suggest the following revisions be made to the

aware of the different study methods. They can achieve this goal by giving
the students handouts. The handouts will provide different study techniques
that can be done. The information on the handout will be simple study tips
that will help the students further understand what they are learning. The tips
will be easy to follow and allow for room to revise. The tips should provide
the student with a sense of comfort and hope for their learning process. In
addition to these handouts the staff can also make sure to reach out to
students who they know are struggling within their course. How to study
effectively for an exam can be posted in modules and in individual meetings
with students. These actions will make sure that the professors and academic
coaches are giving their students the best chance to succeed in their future
careers.

We will also create a QR code that will help the students find the
information easier. This will help a wider range of students get involved.
Social media is one of the number one way to reach students today. This
social media outreach will help get the word out and let students know that
there are resources at the university for them.

Handout Information: The information on the handout will be simple study tips
that will help the students further understand what they are learning. The tips will
be easy to follow and allow for room to revise. The tips should provide the student
with a sense of comfort and hope for their learning process. The tips should be
structured like the following:

Tip 1 – Take clear and descriptive notes while in lecture. This is this most
important tip of all. To study for your exams and quizzes you need to be studying
the right information. Paying attention is a key feature in this step. Descriptive
notes are meant to help you help you see the given topic clear without any hidden
side parts to the subject.

This first tip example is what the paper should be structured like. This format is
clear and neatly put together. This information is not overwhelming and allows the
reader room to comprehend what is being discussed. The given example starts out
by given a tip and them going into detail to discuss what is required from the
student. That format is very simple and straightforward which is what most college
students are looking for.

Action Required: I suggest that academic advisors and professor make sure that
college students are aware of the different study methods. They can achieve this
