REFLECTION PAPER ABOUT MY WORK IMMERSION JOURNEY
(DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SCHOOL AND WORK)
My time at the Ormoc District Hospital in the pediatric clinic and Malasakit
Center was truly enlightening. Unlike the familiar routine of school where lessons are
found in textbooks, being in the hospital exposed me to real-life situations that
required quick thinking and problem-solving skills. In school, everything is laid out in
advance, but each day at the hospital brought new and unexpected challenges,
making me adapt and learn on the go.
Working in the hospital showed me the impact we can have on the lives of
others. In school, the main goal is often to memorize facts and pass exams, but in the
hospital, every action directly impacted the well-being of the patients we served.
This hands-on experience emphasized the importance of compassion and empathy in
healthcare, teaching me that these qualities are just as crucial as medical knowledge.
It was a powerful lesson in understanding that caring for others goes beyond
textbooks and tests. My time in the pediatric clinic and Malasakit Center also
deepened my appreciation for the dedicated healthcare professionals I had the
privilege of working alongside. Their commitment to providing quality care and
support to every patient inspired me to strive for excellence in whatever I choose to
pursue. Witnessing their tireless efforts and selfless dedication redefined my
understanding of teamwork and reinforced the importance of collaboration in
achieving positive outcomes in the healthcare setting. Their mentorship and guidance
not only enhanced my practical skills but also introduced me in a sense of
responsibility and compassion that will undoubtedly shape my future in the healthcare
field.
Through this work immersion journey, I gained a deeper understanding of the

healthcare industry and the essential skills needed to thrive in this environment. This
experience went beyond academic knowledge, shaping me into a more compassionate
and capable individual prepared to tackle the challenges that lie ahead in the
healthcare field. It ignited a passion within me to pursue a career where I can make a
meaningful difference in the lives of others, emphasizing the impact that genuine
care and understanding can have on those in need.
NARRATIVE REPORT ABOUT MY WORK IMMERSION JOURNEY
On my first day of working at Ormoc District Hospital for my work immersion, I

was greeted warmly by the staff and I undergo a briefing in the pediatric department
with my head or manager. I was tasked with cleaning the clinic, managing the
schedule of the physicians or doctors who were assigned on that day in pediatrics,
preparing the RX paper and the laboratory slip, and starting to list down the patients
who would be called for further checkups. After the briefing, I started to work
efficiently by calling the names of the patients and recording the list of patients in
the logbook, including their name and case number. Lastly, in the afternoon, after
the clinic hours, I was cutting prescription papers and laboratory slips and recorded
the list of patients in the logbook and forwarded the logbook with the list of patients
to the registrar for them to do the final checking of the list.
On my second day of working in Ormoc District Hospital, since there were only
a few patients who needed to be checked up that day, all I did was clean the clinic
properly, arrange and organize the baby books, and cut some printed laboratory slips
and RX for them to be used the next day. In the afternoon, I recorded the list of the
patients who were checked up on that day and forwarded it to the registrar for final
checking.
On my third day of working in the pediatric department at Ormoc District

Hospital, I cleaned and sanitized the table of the assigned physician or doctor that
day and prepared the RX paper and laboratory slip for the physician to use for the
patient's checkup. Since there are a lot of patients that day, I list down the names of
the patients who are needed to come back to the clinic in the afternoon for the
checking of their laboratory results, and after the clinic hours, I record the list of the
patients who were checked up on that day and forward it to the registrar for final
checking.
On my fourth day of working at Ormoc District Hospital, I was re-assigned to

the Malasakit Center. The Malasakit Center is a government facility in the Philippines
that provides medical and financial assistance to patients in need. On my first day in
the Malasakit Center, together with my colleague Claire Estrera, we cleaned the area
together and were tasked with doing the whole day to cut the slips of payment that
will be used in the Malasakit Center.
On my fifth day of working at Ormoc District Hospital, where I was assigned to

Malasakit Center, in the morning I cleaned the center by sweeping the floor and
organizing some piled papers that needed to be cut. And if there are patients who
need to be discharged and need financial assistance from the government in Malasakit
Center, we were tasked with pasting the laboratory result or other important slip or
receipt slip together with the prescription paper on used bond paper and staple it
together with the payment slip or their hospital bill and their barangay indigency.
Around 10 forms from patients were tasked to me and done by me that day.
During my sixth day at Ormoc District Hospital, I worked in the Malasakit

Center. In the morning, we cleaned the center by sweeping the floor and organizing
and arranging some papers that needed cutting. Our main task was to help patients
who needed government financial assistance by attaching their documents, like lab
results and their prescription paper on a used bond paper and stapling them with their
payment slip and Barangay indigency. Together with my partner, we handled and
done many forms from patients that day.
On my seventh day at Ormoc District Hospital, I was assigned to work in the

Malasakit Center. In the morning, our main tasks were cleaning the center, which
involved sweeping the floor, and organizing and arranging various papers that
required cutting. Our primary responsibility was to assist patients who needed
financial aid from the government. This involved attaching their documents, such as
lab results and prescription papers, to recycled bond paper and stapling them
together with their payment slip and Barangay indigency certification. Working
alongside my partner, we processed a lot forms from patients that day. Afterward, we
reviewed and organized any scratch papers, placing them with the stack of used
papers for the following day.
On my eighth day at Ormoc District Hospital, our day began with cleaning the
center, where we swept the floor and organized and arranged papers that required
cutting. Our main responsibility was to assist patients who required government
financial assistance. This involved attaching their documents, such as lab results and
prescription papers, to recycled bond paper and stapling them together with their
payment slip and Barangay indigency certification. Working alongside my partner, we
processed approximately a lot of forms from patients throughout the day.
Additionally, after completing our tasks, we took the time to review and organize any
scratch papers, adding them to the stack of used papers for the following day.
We started our ninth day at Ormoc District Hospital in Malasakit Center by

organizing and arranging the documents that needed to be cut, as well as sweeping
the floor. Helping patients who needed financial support from the government was
our primary duty. This required stapling their payment slip and the certification of
barangay indigency to recycled bond paper that had their documents, including
prescription and test results, attached. Together with my colleague, we completed a
lot of patient forms in a single day. We also took some time to go over and arrange
any scratch paper we may have had, adding it to the pile of papers that will be
utilized the next day.
As today is my last day, we began our tenth day at Ormoc District Hospital in
Malasakit Center by sweeping the floor and organizing the paperwork that needed to
be cut. Next, we pasted a lot of prescription paper, laboratory results, and discharge
slips on used bond paper and attached them together with their payment slip and the
barangay indigency certification. In a single day, my colleague and I finished a large
number of patient forms. We also spent some time going through and organizing any
scrap paper we might have had, adding it to the stack of papers we'll use the
following day. Our managers and other staff members gave us food for snacks, and
after that, we cleaned the center and the area of the staff members before we left.
