Lab 1 DCCN

The document discusses a lab report for a computer science course. It includes the names of three students, an instructor, and discusses using network devices like hubs, switches and routers in Cisco Packet Tracer to understand their functions. It also addresses why connections can fail if bandwidth and duplex settings do not match between devices and whether both ends need to be set to automatic.

Simulate above network devices to understand about CISCO Packet

Using hubs and switches:-

2) Explain why the connection fails if the bandwidth or duplex settings for the
devices do not match.

If the bandwidth or duplex settings for devices do not match, the connection can fail
because the devices are unable to communicate properly. Bandwidth refers to the
maximum amount of data that can be transmitted over a network in a given amount of
time, while duplex settings determine whether data can be transmitted and received
simultaneously or only one at a time. If these settings do not match, the devices may not
be able to establish a reliable connection, leading to communication issues or failure.

3) Explain, If a device is configured with bandwidth and duplex settings

on automatic ,does the device at the other end of the connection have to
be set to automatic as well?

If a device is configured with bandwidth and duplex settings on automatic, it is not

necessary for the device at the other end of the connection to be set to automatic as well.
The automatic setting allows the device to negotiate with the other device and determine
the best settings for communication. As long as both devices support automatic
negotiation, they should be able to establish a connection with compatible settings.

Explanation:-
A hub sends data to all connected devices, a switch sends data only to the device it's
intended for, and a router connects different networks and decides where to send data
based on IP addresses. When the bandwidth or duplex settings for devices do not match,
it can lead to connection failure because these settings determine how data is transmitted
and received. Bandwidth defines the maximum data transfer rate, while duplex settings
determine whether data can be sent and received simultaneously. If these settings are
mismatched, the devices may not be able to communicate effectively, causing connection
issues or failure. Automatic settings can simplify this process by allowing devices to
negotiate and determine the best settings for communication automatically, potentially
avoiding these compatibility problems.

Conclusion:-

In conclusion, matching bandwidth and duplex settings are crucial for establishing a
successful network connection. Automatic settings can simplify this process by allowing
devices to negotiate and determine the best settings for communication automatically.so
in case of switch it can transfer packet to specific device while hub transfer to all devices
and router is used to connect two more networks, switch is far more intelligent as compare
to hub.
