Introductory Message
For the facilitator:
This learning resource hopes to engage the learners into guided and
independent learning activities at their own pace and time. Furthermore, this also
aims to help learners acquire the needed 21st century skills while taking into
consideration their needs and circumstances.
In addition to the material in the main text, you will also see this box in the
body of the module:
As a facilitator you are expected to orient the learners on how to use this
module. You also need to keep track of the learners' progress while allowing them to
manage their own learning. Furthermore, you are expected to encourage and assist
the learners as they do the tasks included in the module.
ii
For the learner:
The hand is one of the most symbolized parts of the human body. It is often
used to depict skill, action and purpose. Through our hands we may learn, create
and accomplish. Hence, the hand in this learning resource signifies that you as a
learner is capable and empowered to successfully achieve the relevant competencies
and skills at your own pace and time. Your academic success lies in your own hands!
This module was designed to provide you with fun and meaningful
opportunities for guided and independent learning at your own pace and time. You
will be enabled to process the contents of the learning resource while being an active
learner.
What I Need to Know This will give you an idea of the skills or
competencies you are expected to learn in the
module.
iii
What I Can Do This section provides an activity which will
help you transfer your new knowledge or skill
into real life situations or concerns.
1. Use the module with care. Do not put unnecessary mark/s on any part of the
module. Use a separate sheet of paper in answering the exercises.
2. Don’t forget to answer What I Know before moving on to the other activities
included in the module.
3. Read the instruction carefully before doing each task.
4. Observe honesty and integrity in doing the tasks and checking your answers.
5. Finish the task at hand before proceeding to the next.
6. Return this module to your teacher/facilitator once you are through with it.
If you encounter any difficulty in answering the tasks in this module, do not
hesitate to consult your teacher or facilitator. Always bear in mind that you are
not alone.
We hope that through this material, you will experience meaningful learning and
gain deep understanding of the relevant competencies. You can do it!
iv
What I Need to Know
This module was designed and written with you in mind. It is here to help you
master the Addition and Subtraction of Decimals. The scope of this module permits
it to be used in many different learning situations. In this module, you will realize
how important it is to learn basic operations particularly addition and subtraction
and their applications in our daily lives. We encourage you to solve it manually
without using calculators, cellphones and other gadgets.
After going through this module, you are expected to add and subtract
decimals and mixed decimals through ten thousandths without or with regrouping
(M6NS-Id-106.2).
1
What I Know
We are glad to know that you started turning the pages of this module. Prior
to this, it is important for us to measure your pre-existing knowledge through the
administration of the pre-assessment test. The result will lead us on how we can help
you as we go along. So, are you now ready to embark with this challenge? Let’s begin
by answering the pre-test.
Pre-Test. Choose the letter of the best answer. Write the chosen letter on your
activity notebook.

What’s In
In this lesson we will briefly review decimals and the relationship to place
value. We have just started. We feel how eager you are to learn the content of this
module. We hope that you keep it up for you to accomplish the activities/exercises
of this lesson.
5
Activity 2: Write the word name of the following decimal numbers:
1. 6.4531 = ___________________________________________________________
2. 7.96420 = __________________________________________________________
3. 4.78012 = __________________________________________________________
4. 57.8750 = __________________________________________________________
5. 412.5632 =__________________________________________________________
What’s New
Adding and subtracting decimal numbers is fun and easy to learn. The process
is similar in adding or subtracting a whole number. Now, we want you to try to
perform the activity.
Vince, Kath, and James went to the school canteen to buy snack food. The
three pupils bought different foods from the canteen. Let’s see what food they have
bought and find out how much each spent food for their merienda.

Kakanin 12.50
Champorado 18.75
Banana Cue 5.00 5.00 5.00
Arrozcaldo 25.45

What is It
There are few things to remember in adding and subtracting decimal numbers.
You can do it by simply following these steps:
➢ Write down the numbers in column and align the decimal points.
➢ If necessary, write zeros in empty decimal place values so that numbers have
the same length or decimal places.
➢ Add or subtract starting from the right, don’t forget to put the decimal point
between the whole number and the decimal parts.
7
Example 1: Activity 1
+ 25.45
Add or subtract starting from the right,
56.70 don’t forget to put the decimal point
between the whole number and the
decimal parts.
For the Activity # 1, Vince, Kath, and James spent Php. 56.70 for Kakanin,
Champorado and Arrozcaldo.
In some cases, we place zeros in the decimal value so that digits are of the
same length. Putting zeros would mean that the decimal place has no value.
What’s More
After a series of discussion, we want you now to take on the next challenge.
We are pretty sure that you gained a lot on the content of this module. With the
knowledge you gained, try to answer the next activities. We encourage you to solve
manually. You may use extra sheets in solving the activities.
8
A. Find the sum. Match the addends with the sum. Write the letter of your
answer on the space provided before the number.
Addends Sum
Alright! Did you learn something about the lesson? Hoping that you’ve learned
a lot from the start of the module. So, let’s try wrapping up your learning by
completing the sentences.
9
7. Write ___________________ in empty decimal place value so that numbers have
the same length or decimal places.
8. Numbers should be written in _____________________________ and align the
decimal points.
9. In adding or subtracting decimals, we have to start from the
___________________.
10. In the decimal number, 24.5678, the number 5 is in the tenths place and
number 8 is in the ____________________________________ place.
What I Can Do
Have you learned a lot from the lesson? Well, let’s see how much you have
learned. Work on the next activities. Again, we remind you to solve manually using
extra sheets and your pen. I know you can do it. So, good luck kids!
