ASTC Rule

Four Quadrants & ASTC Rule

There are four quadrants. The signs of different trigonometric
ratios vary in these quadrants
90°
• 90° to 180° is • 0° to 90° is
2nd quadrant 1st quadrant
• Only sin & cosec • All Trigonometric
functions are functions are
positive positive
sin All
180° 360°

• 180° to 270° is tan cos • 270° to 360° is
3rd quadrant. 4th quadrant.
• Only tan & cot • Only cos & sec
functions are functions are
positive. positive.

T-ratios of General Angles (Reduction Formula)
We will follow the following steps :

Step 1

𝛂=𝐀±𝛉

A : Integral multiple of 𝟗𝟎°

𝛉 : Acute angle

Step 2

Decide sign according to quadrant.

Step 3

If A is Odd multiple of 𝟗𝟎° If A is Even multiple of 𝟗𝟎°

𝐬𝐢𝐧𝛉 ⇌ 𝐜𝐨𝐬𝛉
𝐜𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐜𝛉 ⇌ 𝐬𝐞𝐜𝛉 No Change
𝐭𝐚𝐧𝛉 ⇌ 𝐜𝐨𝐭𝛉
