embedded microchip that can be loaded with data, used for telephone calling,
electronic cash payments, and other applications, and then periodically
refreshed for additional use.
15. List out types of Network. Explain MAN.

Metropolitan area network (MAN) is a network that interconnects

users with computer resources in a geographic area or region larger than
that covered by even a large local area network (LAN) but smaller than the
area covered by a wide area network (WAN). The term is applied to the
interconnection of networks in a city into a single larger network (which may
then also offer efficient connection to a wide area network). It is also used to
mean the interconnection of several local area networks by bridging them
with backbone lines. The latter usage is also sometimes referred to as a
campus network.

16. Define Extranet.

An extranet is a private network that uses Internet technology and the

public telecommunication system to securely share part of a business's
information or operations with suppliers, vendors, partners, customers, or
other businesses. An extranet can be viewed as part of a
company's intranet that is extended to users outside the company. It has also
been described as a "state of mind" in which the Internet is perceived as a
way to do business with other companies as well as to sell products to
customers.

17. What is Guided and Unguided Media?

With guided transmission media, the waves are guided along a physical
path; examples of guided media include phone lines, twisted pair cables, coaxial cables

and optical fibres. Unguided transmission media are methods that allow the transmission
of data without the use of physical means to define the path it takes.
18. Define Hybrid Network.

Hybrid topology. A hybrid topology is a type of network topology

that uses two or more other network topologies, including bus topology,
mesh topology, ring topology, star topology, and tree topology.

19. Explain Router.

A router is a device that forwards data packets along networks. A

router is connected to at least two networks, commonly
two LANs or WANs or a LAN and its ISP's network. Routers are located
at gateways, the places where two or more networks connect.

20. Explain Proxy Server.

A proxy server is a computer that offers a computer network service to

allow clients to make indirect network connections to other network
services. A client connects to the proxy server, and then requests a
connection, file, or other resource available on a different server.

21. What is Payment Gateway?

The payment gateway is the infrastructure that allows a merchant to accept

credit card and other forms of electronic payment. When referring
to payment gateways used for Internet transactions, it may also be called an
IP payment gateway.

22. What is Hub?

A common connection point for devices in a network. Hubs are

commonly used to connect segments of a LAN. A hub contains multiple ports.
When a packet arrives at one port, it is copied to the other ports so that all
segments of the LAN can see all packets.

23. What is Switch?

A switch, in the context of networking is a high-speed device that

receives incoming data packets and redirects them to their destination on a
local area network (LAN). A LAN switch operates at the data link layer (Layer

2) or the network layer of the OSI Model and, as such it can support all types
of packet protocols.

24. What is Bridge?

A device that connects two local-area networks (LANs), or two segments of

the same LAN that use the same protocol, such as Ethernet or Token-Ring.

25. What is Repeater?

A repeater is a network device that retransmits a received signal with more

power and to an extended geographical or topological network boundary
than what would be capable with the original signal.

A repeater is implemented in computer networks to expand the coverage

area of the network, repropagate a weak or broken signal and or service
remote nodes. Repeaters amplify the received/input signal to a higher
frequency domain so that it is reusable, scalable and available.

Repeaters were introduced in wired data communication networks due to

the limitation of a signal in propagating over a longer distance and now are a
common installation in wireless networks for expanding cell size.
Repeaters are also known as signal boosters.

26. What is EDI?

Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) is the computer-to-computer exchange of
business documents in a standard electronic format between business partners.
By moving from a paper-based exchange of business document to one that is electronic,
businesses enjoy major benefits such as reduced cost, increased processing speed, reduced
errors and improved relationships with business partners. Learn more about the benefits
of EDI here.
27. Difference between Public key and Private Key.
A public key is only used to encrypt messages not decrypt. A public key is published
so that anyone can send a particular receiver a secure message.
A private key can be used to decrypt messages encrypted with a matching public key. As
the term suggests, private keys are intended to be secret.
28. What is blog?
A blog (shortening of “weblog”) is an online journal or informational website
displaying information in the reverse chronological order, with latest posts appearing first.

29. What is Functions of Meta Search Engine?
A Meta search engine is a type of search engine that gives results based on a
combination of results from other search engine databases. It specializes in concatenating
databases from a variety of search engines and linking search results to relevant sources.
A Meta search engine is also known as a metasearch engine.
30. What is File Uploading & Downloading?
Uploading is the transmission of a file from one computer system to another, usually
larger computer system. From a network user's point-of-view, to upload a file is to send it
to another computer that is set up to receive it. People who share images with others on
bulletin board services ( BBS ) upload files to the BBS.
Uploading means upload Copy of Your Documents from Local Computer to Remote
Computer.

Transmission in the other direction is downloading -- from one, usually larger computer to
another, usually smaller computer. From an Internet user's point-of-view, downloading is
receiving a file from another computer.
The File Transfer Protocol (FTP) is the Internet facility for downloading and uploading
files. (If you are uploading a file to another site, you must usually have permission in
advance to access the site and the directory where the file is to be placed.)
When you send or receive an attached file with an e-mail note, this is just an attachment,
not a download or an upload. However, in practice, many people use "upload" to mean
"send" and "download" to mean receive. The term is used loosely in practice and if
someone says to you "Download (or upload) such--and-such a file to me" via e-mail, they
simply mean "Send it to me."
Downloading means Download Copy of Document from Remote Computer to Local
Computer.
In short, from the ordinary workstation or small computer user's point-of-view, to upload
is to send a file and to download is to receive a file.

31. Explain B2G transaction.

Business-to-government (B2G) is a business model that refers to businesses selling
products, services or information to governments or government agencies.
B2G networks or models provide a way for businesses to bid on government projects or
products those governments might purchase or need for their organizations. This can

encompass public sector organizations that propose the bids. B2G activities are
increasingly being conducted via the Internet through real-time bidding.
B2G is also referred to as public sector marketing.

through a short-range wireless connectivity standard such as Near Field Communication
(NFC).
37. Define Extranet
An intranet that can be partially accessed by authorized outside users, enabling
businesses to exchange information over the Internet in a secure way. “where intranets
embrace employees within a company, extranets extend outwards to offer similar functions
to those working closely with the business but separate from it"

online through a computer or a Smartphone. Its utility is same as a credit or debit card. An
E-wallet needs to be linked with the individual’s bank account to make payments.
39. Define Repeater
In digital communication systems, a repeater is a device that receives a digital signal
on an electromagnetic or optical transmission medium and regenerates the signal along the
next leg of the medium. In electromagnetic media, repeaters overcome the attenuation
caused by free-space electromagnetic-field divergence or cable loss. A series of repeaters
make possible the extension of a signal over a distance.
40.What is Paypal.

41. Difference between Web and Internet

The Internet is a global network of networks while the Web, also referred formally as
World Wide Web (www) is collection of information which is accessed via the Internet.
Another way to look at this difference is; the Internet is infrastructure while the Web is
service on top of that infrastructure. Alternatively, the Internet can be viewed as a big
book-store while the Web can be viewed as collection of books on that store. At a high level,
we can even think of the Internet as hardware and the Web as software.

United Nations/Electronic Data Interchange for Administration, Commerce and Transport
