ASSIGNMENT NO. : 1 / 2 / 3

Prepared by:

STUDENT ID NAME PROGRAM/SECTION

Lecturer:
1. As a natural resources manager in a region, it is essential to monitor and predict changes in water
quality, specifically using the index of biotic integrity (IBI) in streams. To facilitate this, there is a
need to develop a simple linear regression model that can forecast variations in IBI based on
forested areas. The provided table presents the sample data.

Based on the data above:

a. Construct a scatter plot. (4 Marks)
b. Find the regression equation. (6 Marks)
c. Based on the summary output, state the coefficient of correlation and coefficient of
determination. Interpret the value obtained. (4 Marks)
d. If the correlation coefficient is manually calculated, would you obtain a similar answer? Show
your calculation. (5 Marks)
2. The bond strength of a UV-cured adhesive is assessed by varying the exposure time. The
treatments are the exposure to the UV source for 5 seconds, 30 seconds, and 90 seconds,
respectively. The data is shown as follows:

Based on the data above:

a. Obtain the ANOVA output. (3 Marks)
b. Which group has the most consistent data? Justify your answer. (2 Marks)
c. Is there evidence at the 5% significance level that any of the treatments affect the outcome?
(5 Marks)
3. The data below present the occurrence of accidents in a workplace according to location (Station
A, B and C) and types of injuries (Category X, Y and Z) in a year

By using a critical value of chi square, is there any evidence to conclude that types of injuries are
related to the location at 𝛼 = 0.05?
