Define hardware. Also explain different types of hardware?

Hardware:
Computer hardware is a collective term used to describe any of the physical components
of an analog or digital computer. The term hardware distinguishes the tangible aspects of
a computing device from software, which consists of written, machine-readable
instructions or program that tell physical components what to do and when to execute the
instructions.Hardware and software are complementary. A computing device can
function efficiently and produce useful output only when both hardware and software
work together appropriately
.Computer hardware can be categorized as being either internal or external components.
Generally, internal hardware components are those necessary for the proper functioning
of the computer, while external hardware components are attached to the computer to add
or enhance functionality.
COMPONENT OF COMPUTER HARDWARE

There are several basic components of computer hardware including:

Internal Hardware Components : Internal hardware components are devices built into the
motherboard or added as an expansion card or device to the computer. The most important internal
hardware components are RAM, Hard disk, SSD, Monitor, and CPU.

Motherboard : The motherboard is a central printed circuit board (PCB) that connects various
components directly or indirectly. It is the backbone of the computer system. It enables electrical
and logical channels for communication and data transfer between the CPU, RAM, storage devices,
expansion cards, and other computer hardware components.

RAM : RAM (Random Access Memory) is computer hardware that stores and processes
information. The processing speed of RAM is much faster than a hard disk. RAM is a volatile
device, which means it deletes all stored information when a computer system shuts down

hard Disk : Another internal computer hardware used for storing data is the hard disk. It can be
preinstalled in the CPU or utilized as an external device. The hard disk is a non-volatile component,
which means it permanently stores data and does not wipe out when the system is shut down.

SSD : A solid-state drive (SSD) is a computer data storage device based on semiconductors. This
non-volatile storage device depends on flash-based memory, NAND, and NOR to store andretrieve
data electronically. SSDs perform the same function as traditional hard disk drives
(HDD) in computers.

CPU :CPU (Central processing unit) is the core hardware of the computer system, which
interprets and executes most of the commands using other computer parts. The CPU is also a core
part of laptops, tablets, and notebooks. The CPU, also known as the computer’s brain, executes
every operation of the computer system.
1. External Hardware Components : External hardware components are devices added outside of
the computer case. These hardware components provide input and output to the computer so
users can communicate with the system. The most common external hardware components
include a mouse, keyboard, printer, speaker, and camera

Monitor : Another computing device, the monitor, directly connects to the CPU and displays the
output, videos, and other graphics. The video shown by the monitor uses the video card. The
monitor screen is comparable to the screen of a TV. But the difference lies in the resolutionand
graphics. The monitor displays high-quality resolution compared to the TV screen.

Mouse : A person operates a mouse, an input device, by hand to point out something on the screen.
The mouse can be either wired or wireless. A wired mouse connects directly to the CPU.The mouse
has a laser/scroll ball to scroll up or down on the screen. The cursor on the screen will move directly
under the command/movement of the mouse

Keyboard : The keyboard is a computer hardware device used to input text and commands into the
computer. It can be either wired or wireless. The keyboard contains numbers, alphabets, special
characters (#,*,&,%), and other buttons to give input to the computer. This device takes
input/information from the user and processes the commands.

Printer : A Printer is a computer hardware output device that produces hard copies of contents,
digital documents, or images on paper or other media. It takes electronic data from a computer
system and transforms it into a printed image or text. Printers are of various types depending upon
their features, including inkjet, laser, dot matrix, and 3D printers.

Speaker : A speaker is an essential external audio output computer device. It produces audio output
for listening to music, watching videos, playing games, and conducting video conferences. The
computer sends audio signals to speakers, and speakers convert them into sound waves that users can
hear. Users usually connect speakers to the computer’s audio output port, typically a USB port. They
come in various sizes, shapes, and designs, with features

What is windows ? Explain features, advantages & disadvantage of windows operating system?

Windows : Windows operating system is a computer program that manages all computer
resourcesand provides services to applications that run on top of it. This operating system was
developed by Microsoft and released in 1985 under the name Windows 1.0. Since then, the Windows
operating system has continued to evolve and become one of the most popular operating systems in the
world. The Windows operating system is designed to run on various types of hardware,

Features : The various features of the Windows operating system include-

 Start menu
Windows 8 uses the Start screen to launch applications, Windows 10 has reintroduced a more
traditional Start menu. It's also been expanded to make it easier to find important apps.

 Microsoft Edge
This new browser is designed to give Windows users a better experience on the Web. It's faster, more
secure, and includes a lot of new features. Microsoft Edge is meant to replace Internet Explorer as
your default web browser, but you'll still be able to use another browser if you prefer.

 Cortana
Similar to Siri and Google Now, you can talk to this virtual assistant with your computer's
microphone. Cortana can answer questions like What's the weather like today?, perform simple
tasks like remind you to take out the trash, and much more.

 Multiple desktops and Task view

Instead of keeping everything open on the same desktop, you can move some of your windows to
a virtual desktop to get them out of the way. And the new Task view feature makes it easy to manage
all of your open windows.

 Action Center
The new Action Center is pretty different from previous versions of Windows. For example, it's been
expanded to let you access frequently used settings, such as Wi-Fi connectivity and tablet mode. It's
also where you'll see important notifications, so if your computer receives an update you'll get a
notification about it here.
 Tablet mode

Unlike Windows 8, Windows 10 makes a clear distinction between desktops and tablets. If you're using a
keyboard and mouse with Windows 10, you'll be in desktop mode by default. If your computer also has a
touchscreen, you can go into tablet mode at any time. Tablet users can also switch back to desktop mode
if they prefer.

Advantages Of Windows Operating System

 Support for all hardware: As windows OS is used by 95% of users so most of the hardware
vendors make drivers for windows.

 Ease of use: All versions of Microsoft Windows have something common in it which makes
users easy to shift from one version to another. Windows 7 users have no difficulty in migrating
to Windows 10 because most of the features of Windows 10 are the same as windows 7. The
user interface of windows is also easy to use than UNIX and MAC.

 Software support: Windows platform is best suited for game and software developers.
Windows have large number audience so developers prefer to make utilities, games and
software for windows OS. Linux users cannot make windows apps so it is better to use windows
for developing apps.

 Plug and play feature: Most hardware can be detected automatically by plug and play feature.
You do not need to manually install the hardware but it is ready to use when attached e.g.
webcam, keyboard, mouse, mobile device etc.

 Desktop and touch screen: Windows 10 is made for both touch screen devices and desktop
computers. The user interface of Windows 10 is made in such a way that it works better for any
type of windows device.
Disadvantages Of Windows Operating System

 Virus attacks: Windows have a high amount of hacker attacks. The hackers can easily break windows
security. So windows users are dependent on anti-virus software and have to pay monthly charges to
companies to protect their data. Also, windows users have to update OS to keep up -to-date with
security patches.

 Most of the software is paid: Most windows programs are paid e.g. games, graphics software
(Photoshop), download manager (IDM) and other popular software are paid. You have to buy these
software or pay a monthly fee to use them.

 Rebooting a system: If your system becomes slow in performance then you have to reboot it. If you
load many programs at the same time then your system slows down and hangs up. The only solution
for this is to reboot.

 High price: Linux OS is open source and is free to use for everyone but windows OS has paid license
and you cannot use windows OS legally free. The cost of buying a copy of windows OS is high as
well. You also need to buy other Microsoft software e.g. MS Office to do regular office work on the
computer.

 High computer resources: If you are installing windows OS then your computer should have high
ram capacity, a lot of hard drive space and good graphics card. This is because of features that are
used in windows. If you want to install graphics software i.e. Photoshop then 16 GB of ram is
recommended.

 Technical support: Windows support is not good for most users. Only some large organizations can
get good support from the windows team. Common users have to search for forums to get their
problem solved.
