I could say one of the most challenging part for teachers is the classroom management
considering that we will be handling completely different students. Students that came from
different walks of life, different culture, beliefs and experiences. From the article that I’ve read,
I’ve learned the five essential ways on how to maintain/implement classroom management.
These are the following:
Develop effective working relationships with your students- good relationship with your
students is important for classroom management and if we have this with our students,
we can push them harder and further to learn because they have trust on us.
Train your students on how learning takes place in your classroom- our students need to
know their responsibilities as students that they should take accountable of their own
responsibilities and own learning. That is to train to become independent individuals
and learners.
Protect and leverage your time- as teacher, one of classroom management is to make
use and maximize the time by being always prepared everyday before coming to
classrooms, so we know immediately the things that we need to accomplish for the day.
Anticipate your students’ behaviors in well-written lesson plans- lesson plans should suit
to student’s behavior and learning styles for smooth transition of classes. The best
discipline management plan is a good lesson plan.
Establish behavioral standards- list behaviors that are acceptable in the classroom and
diminish improper behaviors by imposing corresponding consequences.

As the world gets older, the more it is becoming advance and this advancement have
great impacted our lives consciously and unconsciously. Facebook, Instagram, Google, Shoppee
and Google Translate are examples of how AI has greatly entered our daily lives. In fact, one of
the hearts of this advancement is the education, this AI is on its way of changing the current
traditional face of education. Therefore, it is a challenge for many institutions and individuals
who are still inclined to the traditional face of education to be adapted to the revolution of time
and responsive to the current needs of education.
The CHED, DepED, educational planners and educators are called to shift the paradigm
of education so that it can cope up with the emerging times. First, re-designing the curriculum,
the heart of the educative process customizing it to the development of needed skills and
competences of the 21st century. Second, Re-engineering strategies and approaches, and
choosing appropriate content, as vehicle in the attainment of the lesson’s goals, considering
what the programming experts have created. Third, re-tooling the faculty and school
administrators, orienting them about these programs for effective usage and delivery,
supervision and implementation. Lastly, facilitating the faculty’s readiness and willingness to
embrace the change of their crucial role as facilitator and trainer.
Mapping out the areas in education that needs to be improved and revised is highly
important to fit in to our current world. It is our utmost goal in education to make students to
be relevant members of our society, productive employees in the future who can execute task
with precision, accuracy and efficiency and become globally competent individuals. This will
only realize if our education can always ride on to the changing pacing of the world and only if
our education can provide technologically ready institutions.

With the emergence of COVID-19 pandemic one of its affected areas is the field of
education. The education has to be rotated into 360 degrees in order to cope with the changes
brought by the pandemic and the most vulnerable of this change in education are the students.
This abrupt change triggers stress and fear in students; this fear primarily rooted from the
problem of having no access to internet connection, gadgets to use to cope with the new
modality of learning as well as financial struggles. Therefore, there is a call for teachers to
support students’ safety and well-being in this time of crisis using the three C’s.
As teacher, it is also our duty that we help our students from emotional problems, there
should always be a balance between content and compassion. They will learn best when they
are at the finest state of their mind and heart.

One of the most challenging part of becoming a teacher especially in lower year level is
the short attention span of the learners. They cannot last long seating in a chair to
accomplished their assigned tasks. From the article of David Reeves, a Marketing Director of
Grounds for Play, he proposed some strategies that might help increase the attention span of
the learners and help them become focus on doing their tasks at school.
Include Physical Activity- give the learners a break for active play like bouncing a ball,
quick stretching or jumping jacks before giving them another task.
Adjust time Frames- break content into smaller time intervals, avoid discussing the
whole content simultaneously. For instance, 15 minutes discussion, 5 minutes break
then proceed to another 15 minutes of discussion and break for a little and so on.
Play Memory Games- memory games help one to hone that focus for kids in a fun way,
examples of memory games are red-light-green-light, I-spy or Simo Says, this game
forces a child to concentrate and increase attention.
Rate (and change) Task- sometimes learners do not pay attention because the task is too
hard, by that allow students to rate the task from 1-10 and when they give 8 out of 10,
ask them what they wanted to change to make the task bearable.
Remove Visual Distractions- the environment of the classroom should not be
overwhelmed with visuals. If there are visuals that distracts the learners focus attention,
try decluttering them.
The above mentioned strategies are some ways to help our learners to be attentive.
However, I highly believe that there is no such potion or magical formula in order to change our
learners overnight, from being inattentive to being focus and engage. I still highly believe that
this kind of attitude of them are innate at their age. Therefore, as teacher an immense patience
and understanding is highly needed. It takes an extra thought, time and effort in our part to
bring significant change for our learners.

One of the challenging parts of the distance learning is to implement the assessment that is
workable to our new model of learning. I believe that with the rapid change of technology,
floating/administering assessments through online is much facile. However, as teacher we have
to consider that we cannot just stick with the true/false assessments and multiple choices as
chances for cheating especially now in online is getting rampant. Thus, with the shift of mode of
learning, we also have to shift in our usual assessments that we used to have during the face-
to-face classes. From the article, “Summative Assessment in Distance Learning”, I have got
important takeaways from it that are truly helpful to all teachers who are working online. Here
are the ways on how to implement assessment in distance learning.
Stop Assessing everything- know what is best and need to assess from what is you think
is nice to assess.
Assigning performance tasks and performance items- this is an assessment that is safe
from any form of cheating. This allows the higher skills to be develop and applied than
just a route memorization.
Moving from one big event to a series of smaller events- if students are required to
complete a big task, chuck it into smaller tasks to avoid adding up the pressure and
stress to the students and protect their well-being in this time of pandemic.
Using conversations and oral defense- have an oral type of assessments than just having
a written type of assessment because oral type provides further evidence of the
students learning.
Leveraging technology tools- maximize the use of technology in this time of distance
learning to create more engaging and effective assessment.
Teaching academic honestly and trust students- reminding all the students from time to
time to give their utmost honestly in their assessments to control behavior and trust
them to do the right thing.
Using professional judgement- always be objective in giving feedback and scoring the
assessments of the students.
The above mentioned, are just suggestions but not necessarily solutions to perfectly
conduct assessment in distance learning. Thus, the teacher needs constant reflection and re-
evaluating the context of the students and other necessary.

I might say that, one of the challenges that teachers frequently encountered is the
problem with students’ engagement and interaction and it worsen today the fact that our
mode of teaching has shifted from face-to-face into online learning. From the article written by
Hubert Ham, he suggested the use of games as a new tool and techniques to engage learners
and at the same time assess them. In his work, he elaborated the difference of the two terms,
gamification and game-based learning.
Gamification- it is where some elements of the games are added into a non-game
activity. Example for this is alternating the instruction of the non-game activities into
the mechanics of the chosen game.
Advantages of Gamification
Can engage both intrinsic (pleasure and fulfilment) and extrinsic (recognition and
rewards) motivation.
Teacher can take control of the activity because he/she is the one who created it.
In the part of the teacher, it can also engage their creativity in new ways and allow
them to explore more exciting approaches for learning.
Game-based Learning- it uses games such as existing boards, social or video games in
order to teach the content in an engaging way. You leverage the content of a game to
accomplish your desired learning outcomes.
Can access a various ed-tech tools that will fit the content of the lesson.
Costs are relatively low, plenty of video games in YouTube are easily accessible.
There are plenty of specialized games to choose from, such as video card, card games
or board game and etc.
