Directions for loading the Solver and SolverTable Addins
Before starting make sure you have the following files available from the Content page in D2L:
A. Premium_Solver_Setup.zip (contains the premium solver mentioned in step 2 below)
B. SolverTable2003.zip (contains the SolverTable.xla and SolverTable Help.doc files) that will extract to
a folder named SolverTable – mentioned in step 3 below)
1. Load the regular Solver add-in in Excel by choosing the menu item Tools-Add-Ins and checking the
box for the Solver add-in. If you are asked for your Office CD make sure that you have it handy! Verify
that it has been loaded by choosing the menu item Tools-Solver.
Unzip the SolverTable2003.zip file. It will unzip the 2 files mentioned above into a folder named
SolverTable. Load the SolverTable add-in by putting the SolverTable folder into the Library folder of the
Microsoft Office suite with the paths given below.
Then for 32 bit version of Windows on the Tools-Add-Ins menu item choose browse and go to:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office11\Library\SolverTable – for Office 2003
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\Library\SolverTable – for Office XP
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Library\SolverTable – for Office 2000, 97, or 95

Office 2007
It is highly recommended that users of Excel 2007 use the Premium Solver and Premium
SolverTable and not the regular Solver and regular SolverTable as they work much better for this
version of Excel!!
If you still plan to use the regular Solver and regular SolverTable here are directions for doing so.
Before starting make sure you have the zip file SolverTable2007.zip available from the Content page in
D2L.
1. Load the regular Solver add-in in Excel 2007. Click the Microsoft Office Button . Click Excel
Options. Click Add-Ins, and then in the Manage box, select Excel Add-ins. Click Go. Check the box for
the Solver add-in. Click OK. If you are asked for your Office 2007 CD make sure that you have it handy.
To verify that it has been loaded click on Solver on the Data ribbon. Do not load the Premium Solver
mentioned in the directions for Excel 2003 and before as it does not work in Office 2007!!!!
2. (One-time only step) Because of the way Solver works and the way SolverTable invokes Solver, you
need to change a macro security setting on your PC. Make sure the Developer tab is visible. (If it isn’t,
click on the Office button and then Excel Options. In the Popular group, check the Show Developer
tab in the Ribbon option.) On the Developer ribbon, click on Macro Security and make sure the “Trust
access to the VBA project object model” option is checked. (As long as you’re there, I recommend that
you check the second option in the top group: “Disable all macros with notification.”)
3. Load the SolverTable add-in. Unzip the SolverTable2007.zip file. It will unzip into 2 files
(SolverTable.xlam and SolverTable Help.docx) which will be put into a folder named SolverTable. Load
the SolverTable add-in by putting the SolverTable folder into the Library folder of the Microsoft Office
2007 suite with the path
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\Library\SolverTable – for Office 2007 on 32 bit
version of Windows
C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office12\Library\SolverTable – for Office 2007 on 64
bit version of Windows
Then click the Microsoft Office Button . Click Excel Options. Click Add-Ins, and then in the Manage
box, select Excel Add-ins. Click Go. Click the browse button and follow the path:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\Library\SolverTable – for Office 2007 on 32 bit
version of Windows
C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office12\Library\SolverTable – for Office 2007 on 64
bit version of Windows
and double click on the SoverTable.xlam file. The SolverTable add-in will be checked in the Add-Ins box
and it has been successfully loaded. To verify that the SolverTable add-in has been loaded click on
SolverTable-Start SolverTable on the Add-Ins ribbon.
If your SolverTable doesn’t work after going through these steps, download and follow the
directions in the Fixing SolverTable Problems - Excel 2007 document from my Content page in D2L.

book Chris Albright.
