IT sector in India which has 56% of the global outsourcing market size is a rapidly growing
urban infrastructure sector. This sector contributes a largest share in Total Indian Service
exports which is 45%. IT sector is the largest private sector employer which provides 3.7
million jobs across the globe and contributes 9.3% of India's GDP. Govt. of India is working
towards the improvement of the infrastructure, which shows that it might be a reason of
obstacle in the path of Make-In-India. Adequate attention was not given to the Indian IT
industry with respect to Global IT industry, for which it is observed that the study and
research regarding Indian IT sector is still relatively inexperienced. However, to overcome
this and to make successful IT sector in India, we need to understand the importance and
build the development of IT in India as IT sector in developing countries. The country today
is turning towards digital India with consistent innovation in products, process and business
models that can deliver enhanced value to the clients to remain as an excellent business
centre for IT industry. If it improves with the help of Make-In-India initiative India can
remain in the leadership position in the global market and can provide highest volume of
employment and career growth opportunities in India.
With the above backdrop the current study aims at finding out the moderating effect
personality types between online engagement and job pursuit intention with special reference
to IT Sector. By incorporating both, psychological and technological perspectives, this study
aimed at examining the relationship between personality traits, online engagement, and job
pursuit intentions. Primary data is collected by a validated questionnaire from potential job
seekers in India. SPSS is used for data analysis techniques. Results of this study may benefit
participants to explore their personality as a job seeker and how it may act leading to
interaction with companies they are interested in, on social networking platforms/ sites
through company social media pages which will help them to take a decision to apply to
online job advertisements. This study may also help companies to link the relevant content
for different personality types i.e. the study will also provide an idea what companies should
post on their social networking platforms/ sites, so that right prospective future employees are
engaged and attracted to apply to their organization. The research has also limitations and
implications which are discussed at the end.
