5: vmotion background process

Ans: When we initiate vmotion , source host will create bitmap image contains vm running state with
IOPS

Move the bitmap image to the destination host over vmkernel portgroup

IO stunn for the vm on source host and resume on destination ( less than 20 ms )

The vm will continue from the destination host

6: vmotion is failed at 10 % or 20 % , how will you troubleshoot

Ans: Check the MTU value on vswitch / physical switch

Verify if vmotion is enabled on different subnets on source and destination

Find the task ID from the vpxd.log file for the failed vmotion and check for the reason and fix it

7: what is the difference between public IP and private IP

Ans: Public IPs will communicate with internet directly , where as private IPs cannt directly
communicate

Private IPs are used for local network communication

Using NAT private Ips can get internet via public IP

8: what is svmotion

storage vmotion , moving a powered on vm files from one datastore to another datastore

Why : To maintain threshold limit on the datstore , or to move vms from one SAN array to another SAN
Array

9: Is it possible to place one hard disk in one datastore and another hard disk in another datastore

Ans : Yes its possible

No performance issues

Ans: Destination datastore should be visible to the host and it should have enough free space

11: Is it possible to migrate a vm from ESXi local datastore to remote storage or vice versa

Ans: yes possible using svmotion

12: is it possible to migrate from FC to NFS or vice versa

Ans : yes , using svmotion

Ans: Host bus adapter used for storage connectivtity in which FC storage

Ans: World wide number on a HBA , its Unique address
