Abstract - word count

Abstracts should be 1 paragraph and not divided into sections. They should follow the

general organization of problem or goal of study, methods, results, and conclusions/public health

implications. Word limits: 150 for research articles, perspectives, synopses; 50 words for

dispatches. Do not cite references in an abstract. Omit abstract for a letter.

Text – word count (word counts are strictly enforced)

Text should be in Times New Roman 12-pt. font and left aligned with first line indented.

Remove blank lines between paragraphs. Do not insert tables or figure legends within the body

of the manuscript. All figures and tables must be cited within the manuscript text.

Do not use Endnotes or format footnotes using the footnote indexing feature in Word.

Simply designate the footnote with a superscript number and place the text of the footnotes

above the references. Place in-text citation as italic numbers (1) in parentheses. Do not use

superscripts for in-text citations.

Acknowledgments

Paragraph listing persons or organizations you wish to acknowledge.

Disclaimers

A disclaimer is not generally needed because EID journal publishes a CDC disclaimer.

Author Bio (first author only, unless there are only 2 authors)

In 2-3 sentences, include author’s current position, affiliation, and primary research

interests.

Do not use Endnotes for references. References should appear in a numbered list, in the order

in which they are cited in the manuscript, including citations in figures and tables. Format the list

in hanging indent paragraph style. Use Uniform Requirements citation style for authors and

publications. List first 6 authors followed by “et al.” Reference limits are strictly enforced.

Submit figures as .jpg or .tif files at 600 dots per inch resolution unless an editable version in its

native format is available (e.g., flow chart in Word, graph built in Excel). When submitting Excel

files, place the chart on the first tab and the linked data on the second tab. The chart should not

exceed 1 page when printed. You may need to shrink the font, use landscape orientation, or

simplify the data display (i.e., month, year only) for a long listing of dates. Do not use vertical

Do not submit figures embedded in a Word document. Upload each panel of a figure as separate

file. Do not put labels (A, B, etc.) on the figure, instead name the panel Figure 2A, Figure 2B,
