What leisure is available to me? What can I do? What do I want to try? What do I
enjoy?
In order to build these healthy habits and hold ourselves accountable, we need to
participate in purposeful leisure. Purposeful leisure is when we are intentional with
our free time. We can demonstrate this by prioritizing our leisure, and creating a leisure
schedule to make intentional leisure time in our schedule.
Take 25 minutes to schedule your priorities for the week. Don’t forget your leisure!
What time will you wake up? What time will you go to sleep? What are your
responsibilities for the day? When can you incorporate leisure?
Recognizing the Support around me
Having a support system is extremely important for your mental health and
wellbeing.
One of the biggest supports you will have is yourself. However, family,
friends, doctors, therapists, social workers, etc, all play a big part of our
support system and it is important to remember we have support available to
us when we need it.
The best leisure is the leisure that allows you to enter your flow state.
Finding a leisure activity that allows us to reach flow state is beneficial to
help us reach our goals.
There are many different types of leisure that we can utilize. Don’t be afraid
to try a new leisure activity! If you don’t like it - that’s okay!
Incorporating leisure into our daily lives can increase our quality of life,
self-confidence, mood regulation, and social and decision-making skills.
Remember:
There is multiple free or low-cost leisure resources in the GTA available to us!
We have support! Family, friends, doctors, social workers, resources, and help-lines!
Track your progress! Small wins are still wins. Set realistic goals that are attainable for
where you are currently at in your life.
