Introduction:

Power bi is a cloud-based business analytical tool on which we create dashboards and reports and we
can share that with anyone and that can been anywhere and anytime. But question arises won’t it ne a
security risk? Anybody can misuse it. And is it necessary to have power bi to open that report or
dashboard?

There are basically two faces:

Desktop – free version

Cloud-based – need purchasing and licensing.

In this software you can get data from any source like oracle, sap, sql server, erp, excel, txt, etc.

You analyzed that data and email that dashboard or report to others. And off course, he/she must have
power bi desktop installed in his/her computer too. It is same as we share excel file to anyone.

But what if you want to share it with your bosses and clients in the real-time and they won’t need to
install power bi. So the solution is cloud based power bi subscription. It is same when you develop a
website on your computer and when you want the world to see this you have to put that website on a
web server using web hosting services.

You need to have a corporate email to join it free for 2 months.

Advantages of cloud-based subscription:

What you are going to develop at the end in PBI?

You will be able to make dashboards like this:

These are general dashboards and these can be customized from client to client. It has many features
like selecting a particular year to see the data according to that year only, etc. Clicking on any link will
take you to the corresponding page. Like:
This shows the live data because it has back-end connectivity to actual data so you can see things like
headcounts, hires, etc.

We design dashboards on PBI desktop version and publish it using our account on PBI cloud so that we
can share our work to the public or selected people.

This dashboard has been designed using dummy data so I can share it with anyone. But we shouldn’t
share a company’s private data to the public.

Difference between dashboard designer and data analyst:

A dashboard designer is the person who just gives answer to a question and
doesn’t go beyond that while a data analyst tries to identify why behind a
question like when asked to present the visualizations either in numeric or chart
form, the ‘overtime report’ then they just simply present who is doing overtime
and total cost of overtime. But when presented the same question to a data
analyst he tries to identify the why behind this question that why this overtime
happened and tries to find the relations of related factors.
How to answer a specific question?
Whenever answering any query of data analysis, always do some paper work
before going to do something on software that what to present. And always take
a suggestion from client that I am going to do this and that and please review it.
So that you will be free from unnecessary work. And always keep your customers’
wishes at first.
Interface of power bi:
One advantage to work with Microsoft products is the uniform interface like tabs,
ribbons, etc.
