-What is Data Analysis?

To extract valuable insights and predictions.

Let’s understand with the help of examples:

Imagine you have a small bakery and you've been keeping track of your daily sales along with various
factors like the weather, promotions, and the day of the week. You want to analyze this data to extract
valuable insights and predictions to improve your business.

1. Insight: By analyzing your sales data against weather patterns, you may notice that on rainy days,
sales of certain items like hot coffee and pastries increase significantly, while on sunny days,
sales of cold beverages and ice cream rise. This insight could lead you to adjust your inventory
and marketing strategies accordingly.

2. Prediction: Based on historical data, you notice that every time you run a promotion offering a
discount on a particular item, overall sales increase by a certain percentage during that period.
With this insight, you can predict the potential impact of future promotions on your sales and
plan your promotions more effectively.

3. Insight: Analyzing sales data over different days of the week reveals that weekends tend to have
higher sales compared to weekdays. However, you also notice that there's a significant increase
in sales on Thursdays. Further investigation reveals that nearby offices tend to have their payday
on Thursdays, leading to increased foot traffic. Armed with this insight, you might decide to
introduce special promotions or offers specifically targeted at Thursdays to capitalize on this
trend.

4. Prediction: By analyzing seasonal trends, you notice a consistent increase in sales during the
holiday season. Using this historical data, you can predict the expected increase in sales for the
upcoming holiday season, allowing you to prepare in advance by stocking up on inventory and
hiring additional staff to meet the anticipated demand.

In summary, through data analysis, you can extract valuable insights like understanding customer
behavior, identifying trends, and making predictions that can help you make informed decisions to
improve your business operations and increase profitability.
