Grade: 2 (Mathematics)
Topic / Concept: Numbers on Abacus
Expected Learning Objective: Students will be able to read and write the numbers shown on an abacus.

Resources Needed: Abacus kit, Buttons, Straw, Glue, Marker, whiteboard.

Introductory activity (Pre-Lesson):
5-10 Teacher will show an abacus tool having beads. Students will discus how each beads represent
minutes numbers and will make 3-digit numbers on abacus.
Here the teacher will introduce the topic
‘Abacus’ through visualisation by showing the abacus kit.

(Abacus is an instrument that can be used for counting and knowing the place value of each digit
in a number. It has some spikes depending on the number of digits in a number and also has
some beads to represent numbers. For showing a 2-digit number we need 2 spikes i.e. Tens and
Ones. For showing a 3-digit number we need 3 spikes i.e. Hundreds, Tens and Ones.)

Now the teacher will divide the class into four groups and provide them with flash cards.
Children will roll 3 dices and will make 3-digit numbers and will draw an abacus and represent
the number on it.
