CHAPTER 1- INTRODUCTION

A. Background of The Study

Technology is an essential part of our lives today and few cannot imagine living without
it. Nowadays people are using technology not just for fun but also for everyday life and
to earn money. There are a lot of ways to use technology as a source of income, one of
them is to use technology in businesses, especially if the owner wants an upgrade for
their business. Philippine is known as one of the countries who spent a lot of time in
gadgets or technology, and establishments like restaurant are upgrading as well. This
helps the business to modernize their transactions and to make orders more accurate to
avoid wasting time. In the modern era, with the flexibility of real humans to think and act
makes life, job, work and even businesses better and accurate, because of that most
businesses are getting more computerized, and they make use of advanced technology
to make their transactions faster, easier, and more precise to prevent wasting time and
ensure that transactions are completed efficiently.
Juris restaurant is located at Bagong Bayan 1, Bongabong Oriental Mindoro. And
it is owned by Missis Liza Manalo. The restaurant offers Filipino dishes like chicken
barbeque and sisig as their best seller, they also offer Miki and Bihon, Sizzling pork
steak, Grilled rib, etc., available for solo or family orders. They also offer drinks, dessert,
and snacks especially Halo-Halo as their best seller snacks. They started their business
on December 8, 2007, and from then till now Missis Manalo is still in charge of the
business. Their present system is as follows: the customer inquiries at the counter, and
the waiter then provides the menu. Additionally, some clients prefer to sit first and wait
for the waiter to take their orders. Once the customer decides what to order, the waiter
will write it on the order slip which will have the list of customer’s order, the date and
time, and cost of the order, and so on. The Juris Restaurant’s manual system
encountered some difficulties. This includes the possibility of the payments being
inaccurate since this will be done through manual calculations where human error is
possible.
Another, in generating reports, can cause workloads since they need to generate
a monthly report for the owner. The staff's integrity is occasionally called into question,
given that the manual system is easily editable. The researcher decided to develop a
system that would help the restaurant run more smoothly and give better service to its
customers. This will enhance the ordering system for the clients and staff and
monitoring of sales of the business.

B. Objectives of the Study

The system's proponent's goal is to create a system for Juris Restaurant that will assist
them in making their transactions manageable, more efficient, hassle free, and much
more secure in terms of its automated-based system. The objective of this research is
to develop an automated ordering system that will provide faster transaction and paper
less transaction that basically saves time to write and compute each order. Will also
enhance your business with sophisticated and effortless features by eliminating the
manual data entry and calculation process resulting to minimal issues like hidden prices,
short of cash on hand. Some additional elements are as follows:
· To be able to provide an Automated Ordering and Sales Monitoring System. A
system that could help the owner and their employees in how to run their
restaurant more quickly, easily and in a smoother way than it could be.
· To be able to offer an accurate result when dealing with daily transactions such
as paying, automatically computes sales and customer’s change as well as its
daily sales computation report.
· To be able to provide an editable ordering system based on prices that food may
vary depending on how much the cost needs to increase, and for their future
additional menu’s.
· To be able to provide percentage discounts for a particular individual like PWD’s
and Senior Citizen.
· To be able to provide kitchen staff with satisfaction and to lessen the hassle in
every order they may take as the ordering system itself performs to display their
order directly to the kitchen.

C. Scope and Limitations

The proposed system entitled Juris Restaurant Automated Billing and Sales
Monitoring System will be able to process customer orders. The proposed system's
main advantages are that it speeds up and organizes the process. This ordering system
is centered on the creation of an information system that will automate manual
transactions in Juris Restaurant.

Scope
The proposed system, namely Juris Restaurant Automated Ordering and Sales
Monitoring System, is focused on providing an accurate ordering system and
automatically computes daily total sales report for every transaction. Additional features
have been integrated in relation to the daily operation such as a display system, where
the menus together with its price will be displayed on the screen to provide paper less
transaction to the customer, prior to the cashier to automatically compute orders with
specific change depending on the bills they pay. The system also provides the editable
menus and prices prior to the Restaurant’s future adjustments as well as the percentage
discount for a particular individual, like PWD’s and Senior Citizens. Furthermore, after
placing orders on the system, it will then proceed directly and be added to the daily total
sales report for sales monitoring. On the other hand, the order will be displayed on the
kitchen monitor together with its assigned table number or customer’s name using VGA
cable. This will give the owner an assurance for more secure sales monitoring even if
he is not around.

Limitation
Juris Restaurant Automated Ordering and Sales Monitoring System is not
capable of online transactions such as: ordering and paying. The system does not
accept credit cards and is not suitable for generating official receipts and any printed
thermal paper. Monthly, quarterly, and yearly sales report is not included in report
generation. The system only covers from planning up to testing and once the necessary
data and information is implemented, the researchers won’t cover any maintenance for
its future needs.

CHAPTER 2
REVIEW OF RELATED LITEREATURE AND STUDIES
A. Related Literature

LOCAL RELATED LITERATURE

From the historical research studies of a quick-service, most fast-food restaurants with
drive-through services concentrate on speed of transaction and order accuracy based
on the most pressing needs of drive-through customers. According to Allysa Mea M.
Castillo et al., As digitalization is on the rise, customers are rapidly changing the way
they engage with accessibility and convenience, yet the typical drive-through remains
unchanged from when it was first introduced in 1947. The researchers propose a
solution to improve fast-food restaurant’s drive-through ordering system. The work
proposes designing a system that increases order accuracy and creates a balance
between speed and satisfaction for the customers, to provide an improved method of
operation in a drive-through system to reduce long queues in a customer vehicle
stream, to provide an automated ordering system in a drive-through to allow continual
building of brand identity while offering customers a fast and user-friendly experience.
And to allow greater flexibility in the amount of time taken by the customer in the
ordering station and allowing rapid selection without having to delay customers
upstream.
Ordering System is subdivided into four steps. First, display order menu interface step
shows the system interface in the order menu panel. Second, display customer
information step shows the summary of the order made by the customer along with their
unique identification number. Then, the display method step allows the customer to
choose whether to pay in cash or to pay using a credit/debit card. Lastly, in generating a
receipt step, a kiosk generates a summarized transaction of a customer into a receipt.
FOREIGN RELATED LITERATURE

Researchers have proposed a method to eliminate the traditional food

ordering system of manual documentation by using workforce or human
intervention. The work proposes an automated food ordering system using the
Arduino Mega 2560, Bluetooth, and FT LCD display hardware. In this work, they
have proposed a handheld device placed on each table for ordering customers'
choice of menu. A TFT LCD display module with a touch interface was used in
the system to take inputs from customers, which were transferred to the kitchen
screen using Bluetooth technology. It also shares the bill with the
manager/cashier using Bluetooth technology. It mentions that it can reduce the
delays in orders and can improve the quality of the service delivered to a
customer. We have found the system to efficiently reduce the workforce and
deliver the food with greater productivity, but this system has the drawback of
less hygiene as each time a customer touches the screen to order a menu, he is
prone to transmitting any contagious virus or bacteria. Hence, we propose a
contactless system.
The researchers proposed a fast-food ordering system that communicates
via Zigbee technology. This paper suggests a solution to the problems of hotel
labor shortages, error reduction, and customer satisfaction. It also uses Zigbee
short-range radio communication technology, with the system divided into two
sections: the handheld section (customer section) and the main section (owners'
section), both of which have Zigbee transceivers. In the handheld section, a
GLCD with a touchscreen is provided to input the customer's food order, which is
then shared with the main section via a Zigbee transceiver. A buzzer indicates
whether the food has been delivered or not. The food menu and prices are
displayed on the main section's LCD display. The work also discusses the
challenges that the hotel industry faces in efficiently managing the food ordering
system. The main challenges are human efforts in delivering a customer's order
by placing a physical or objective menu card on their table rather than a digital
menu with better graphics and individual attention for bills on each table. As a
result, the proposed digital menu ordering via an electronic system interface will
be a more efficient and intelligent solution to the hotel industry's problems. This
work proposes a wireless communication interface for faster and more accurate
data transmission at a low cost. In addition, this paper proposes a user-friendly
interface that can reduce human effort. It not only reduces human efforts but also
reduces service delays, resulting in faster order processing and increased
 efficiency and profits. The limitation in this work is touch-based input, which we
have replaced with a gesture-controlled system.
This work implements a RFID based system to improve competence of
service, reduce the operational cost, and to be a greener solution, but has not
accommodated the need for a system that can avoid multiple individuals
contacting the same RFID card to order the menu. The study helps us
understand the significance of employee satisfaction as well as management
satisfaction. Labor productivity as well as Employee satisfaction influences food
quality. The remodeled kitchen and salary system also had a significant impact
on employee productivity, demonstrating that relying on an automated system for
food ordering can produce consistent results because it is not affected by human
emotions.
The researchers work in and corresponds to Anomaly detection related
solution framework by applying supervised and unsupervised machine learning
approaches. Prior to prediction, feature reduction is also an important step to
improve the accuracy of the classification or clustering work. In this work, they
attempted to determine whether the comments or reviews about a hotel were
fake or genuine as submitted by any user, whereas in the latter work, they
attempted to examine fraudulent data within standard datasets.
Researchers from the Human Interface Laboratory in New Zealand
conducted extensive research on natural interaction to augmented-reality
interfaces using free hand gestures and were able to apply the findings to
desktop computers and mobile devices. This work sheds light on our hardware
implementation plans.

A. Local Studies
Online Billing and Reservation System for Royal Palm Paradise Resort
(C.L. Adap, J.R. San Juan, P.B. Sillio, 2013)
The system has two pages, one for the administrator and one for the customer. The
administrator page has full access to the system and will be able to amend all customer
records for reservations made by phone or walk-in customers, change the status of
customer reservations, and update the list of resort facilities. The Administrator page
also allows you to calculate bills of reservation and add-ons, as well as generate
reports.
The proponent's system also has two pages, similar to the Royal Palm Paradise
Resort's Online Billing and Reservation System, where the Administrator page will
oversee all customer/user transactions. All users can access the Administrator page to
view reports, update all records, and view a list of the resort's facilities.

An Online Reservation with Billing System for Puerto Real Resort

(Pantaleon, C.D., 2011)
The information system provides graphical and textual information about the resort. This
includes location, prices and other information regarding the resort and what it can
prefer. It is created with a user friendly environment because the proponents are aware
that not all persons who will view the website are advanced users. The reservation with
billing system included in the proposed system is very competent. Through this,
customers can make a reservation by just accessing the website. Thus, this can be
helpful to the customers in terms of cost and time. Cost and time, because they do not
have to go personally or call to the company to ask for reservation. This feature will not
just favorable to the customers but to the company too. Having an online reservation
system will make an edge over the companies.
The Online Reservation with Billing System for Puerto Real Resort is similar to the
proponents’ system because the Altaroca Mountain Resort and Convention Center ’s
website also provides the graphical and textual information about the resort. The
information also includes the location, prices, weddings and functions, facilities and
services and other information that the resort can offer. The proponents will also make a
user-friendly system that is more convenient to the clients to book reservations and
make transactions in terms of cost and time.
Similar to the study the proponents system’s will
not just be favorable to the clients but to the company too

Online Reservation with Billing System for Villa Silvina Resort

"Online Reservation with Billing System for Villa Silvina Resort." Zapanta, Belardo,
Flores, and Sobrevilla is a reservation system for their resort and accommodations. The
system can also generate receipts and display a customer's billing statement. It also
has the ability to generate daily or monthly management reports.
The proponent's system will produce reports similar to those generated by the Villa
Silvina Resort's Online Reservation with Billing System. The proponents' website has all
the resort's features, and the system can keep track of all the amenities offered to
customers.

The Online Billing and reservation System of Adams Beach Resort was developed in
order for the company to have a systematized form of operation and transaction in
addition to a trouble-free work for the officers-in-charge. The system has a user-friendly
environment and includes reservation packages, services and procedures. The
similarities of Online Billing and Reservation System of Adams Beach Resort to the
study of the proponents is that it also aims to have a systemized form of operation and
transaction for the clients and to help the manager to have a trouble-free work. The
proponents’ system also have a user-friendly environment/website where the clients can
also see the different rates, amenities and reservation packages offered by the resort.

Online Billing and Reservation System of View fort Terrace View hill Resort
Carmona, Cavite

View fort Terrace View hill’s main problem is the lack of technology which leads to
conflict of schedules, data inconsistency, data redundancy, data loss, lack of security
and it is space consuming. Because all of the transactions are stored in one logbook, all
of these problems are encountered by the management. In order to avoid these
problems, the proponents proposed an online billing and reservation system for View
fort Terrace View hill Resort. The system has a database for the resort where all of the
company’s transactions are stored and it has also the ability to compute all the billings
of the client.
Online Billing and Reservation System of View fort Terrace View hill Resort Carmona,
Cavite has similarities to the study of the proponents because of the following problems.
In terms of the problems data inconsistency which make it more difficult to know what is
the exact date of reservation made by the client, data redundancy which duplicates the
reservation information, poor data security meaning the data is not safe from alteration
and deletion. The study will help the proponents in solving these problems through the
proponents’ proposed system

to make meal or beverage reservations. The proponents' proposed approach would also
assist clients in experiencing more convenient ways to book their bookings.

resort can improve the services it provides.

systems also starts with the input of the check-in and check-out date of the clients and
then it will proceed to the input of their basic information.

number of Inns and Ranches in other locations, they devised an online method for this
problem in order to provide customers with easier access and speedier reservation
procedures. The inefficiency of the manual reservation process and the lack of a
database prompted them to upgrade the system in their Inn and Resort.

C. Conceptual Framework
The design will seek and provide solution for the problems that are being encountered
by the institution and its consumer. Through the use of this design and all these
necessary data requirements, ordering and sales monitoring would be successfully
done during and after the process.

system and how this will be operated. The input which shows the knowledge, software,
and hardware required by the system. The process of the Automated Ordering and
Sales Monitoring System and lastly is the output of the system.

CHAPTER 3
THE EXISTING SYSTEMS

A. Description of the Existing System

This chapter contains the entire diagram that was used to demonstrate how Juris
Restaurant's existing system works. This system demonstrates how they will manually
take customer orders and how orders will be processed from the cashier through the
kitchen and back to the customer; first, customers will simply go to the cashier and then
using a pad of paper, staff will simply jot down their customer's order and use calculator
to come up with the total amount of that particular customer’s order take note that it is a
manually calculated, manually receiving order kind of system. Lastly is the cashier will
ask the customer if it will be dine in or take out so they could make a preparation for a
take-out box if ever, and then will personally handed out the order pad to the kitchen so
that it can be prepare and be cook. Unfortunately, there are some impediments that can
prevent orders from reaching the kitchen. The following barriers are affecting the
ordering process and how the chef will cook the foods: jotting down orders is time
consuming because it cannot be edited if there are any mistakes basically they need to
re-write those wrong orders, if there is; also going back and forth of the cashier staff
from bar table to the kitchen just to give the order is too hassle for the staff and the
other customers for the reason that it may cause a line to pile up ; as for the kitchen
staff- reading handwritten orders will also take time to read as this is not a consistent
style of figures.

CHAPTER 4
THE PROPOSED SYSTEM
A. Data Gathering
The researchers used the following methods to collect relevant data and
information for the design and then will generate ideas for system management based
on that information.
Interview Method
The researchers used this data collection technique to verify and confirm
information specifically the open-ended questionnaire. This is a method for researchers
to gather ideas and feedback on the proposed system's design and structure. As this
needs a static response basically it requires a longer response. That can be compared
to information that is already known to the questioner.
The researchers were also able to understand the manual system's techniques
and strategies through interviews. Researchers asked all the possible questions that
can be ask to help generating and process the system smoothly. As it requires a lot of
information from the owner itself or it can be the manager. But as the researchers
perform the interview, they had it with the guidance of Mrs. Liza Manalo which is the
owner itself and interview with her son Mr. Juris Manalo.

Observation Method
This method of data collection bolstered the study's concept. The researchers
were able to observe the procedures in both the traditional method (manually) which
explains and understands how it works. From the start of having customer, taking their
order, jotting down food orders, to handing out those orders to the kitchen, and after
preparing foods to ring the bell personally is too hassle for all the employee and also for
the customer. However, with a computerized system called Automated Ordering System
– this provides much clearer vision and a lot cleaner work for each individual inside the
restaurant and will not cause trouble and hassle minding how to take order, how it will
be computed, how the order will get to the kitchen because the system itself will do all
the work. All it needs is The researchers learned how the procedures in manual to
automated progression are based on this study.

B. Specific Requirements
This proposed system has three parts of requirements that should meet in order
to implement the program. The first component is the knowledge requirement, followed
by the software requirements, and finally by the hardware requirement. The following is
in list of these three requirements.
1. Knowledge Requirements
a. Brainstorming
Brainstorming combines a relaxed, informal approach to problem solving with lateral
thinking. It encourages people to come up with thoughts and ideas that can be crafted
into original, creative solutions to a problem. By contrast, brainstorming provides a free
and open environment that encourages everyone to participate. Quirky ideas are
welcomed and built upon, and all participants are encouraged to contribute fully, helping
them develop a rich array of creative solutions.

b. Automated Ordering System

The Automated Order System, or AOS, is a computer program that automatically place
orders and calculate it, in the case of many orders, or directly to the bar counter.
Automated systems like AOS have the capacity to execute orders with both speed and
accuracy. By removing human intervention in this phase of the order-handling process,
these systems can lower the number of errors. Finally, they're also able to provide
another layer of security against fraud, thereby helping to control risk too.

c. Automated Sales Monitoring System

Sales Monitoring System is a means (electronic) of keeping an eye on how many sales
a company is making, and how much profit is being earning. This system will improve
and provide the security and accuracy in handling goods sold as well as monitoring the
inventory items by just entering data required and the system would handle the
calculation. It will enable easy accessing and retrieving of required information rather
than pursuing paper files. Having an advanced and computerized system in running the
business makes more productive, efficient, secure and convenient both to the company
and to its clients. Sales Monitoring System is meant to help businesses to expedite and
increase sales and most importantly to increase profit of the company because it helps
woks faster and easier.

d. User Detail
User Details means basic information collected by the researchers like username and
password to access business account that are authorized by the owner or the manager
to use the Service from the Automated Ordering and Sales Monitoring System by
means of activity logging, and getting daily sales report.

2. Software Requirements
a. Visual Studio
Microsoft Visual Studio is an IDE made by Microsoft and used for different types of
software development such as computer programs, websites, web apps, web services,
and mobile apps. It contains completion tools, compilers, and other features to facilitate
the software development process. The Visual Studio IDE (integrated development
environment) is a software program for developers to write and edit their code. Its user
interface is used for software development to edit, debug and build code. Visual Studio
includes a code editor supporting IntelliSense (the code completion component) as well
as code refactoring. The integrated debugger works both as a source-level debugger
and a machine-level debugger. Other built-in tools include a code profiler, designer for
building GUI applications, web designer, class designer, and database schema
designer. With Visual Studio you can build any app, game, or extension using any
language of your choice.
 b. C# Programming Language
C# is an object-oriented, component-oriented programming language. C# provides
language constructs to directly support these concepts, making C# a natural language
in which to create and use software components. Since its origin, C# has added
features to support new workloads and emerging software design practices. At its core,
C# is an object-oriented language. You define types and their behavior.

c. Windows Operating System

Microsoft Windows, also called Windows and Windows OS, computer operating system
(OS) developed by Microsoft Corporation to run personal computers (PCs). Featuring
the first graphical user interface (GUI) for IBM-compatible PCs, the Windows OS soon
dominated the PC market. Approximately 90 percent of PCs run some version of
Windows.

A display monitor is an electronic device used to display video output from
computers. Display monitors are used in many computer devices, ranging from personal
computers (PC) and laptops to small handheld mobile devices, like cellphones and MP3
players

It is used as a connector in electronic devices like laptops, televisions, monitors, video
cards, and other electronic devices. It is used to connect and send signals between
computers and monitors, between computers and televisions, and between computers
and laptops.
c. Computer System
A computer is a programmable device that can automatically perform a sequence of
calculations or other operations on data once programmed for the task. It can store,
retrieve, and process data according to internal instructions. A computer may be either
digital, analog, or hybrid, although most in operation today are digital. Digital computers
express variables as numbers, usually in the binary system. They are used for general
purposes, whereas analog computers are built for specific tasks, typically scientific or
technical.

D. Development Method

This research study aims to determine the automated ordering and sales monitoring for
providing an accurate ordering system; automatically computing daily total sales; the
automated ordering system will save time and paper transactions; prior to the cashier
computing orders; providing editable menus and prices for the restaurant’s future
adjustments; and increasing the productivity of the restaurant because of the easier
process.

This phase requires study and analysis culminating in the full project management plan
and that may lead to system development activities. This is where the business starts,
planning is to aim the target of the business which is the automated ordering and sales
monitoring system. The system includes a hassle-free ordering system for the
customer, to provide accurate computation for the cashier and to increase productivity
and profit for the restaurant. In the planning phase, sufficient requirement detail is

The descriptive method of research was used for this study by the researchers. The
researchers planned a strategic way for the benefits of the Juris Restaurant. First, they
gathered information and conducted an interview to seek permission for the
implementation of the system. The researchers proposed to develop a system that
would help Juris Restaurant run more smoothly and give better service to its customers.
The researchers get the history of the institution and the existing system of the
management of the restaurant. A software requirement for development of the
Automated and Monitoring System was identified and was utilized to make the system
into reality. Other related data and studies were also gathered to support the proposed
system. After the researchers gathered all information needed in Juris Restaurant’s
existing system, they analyzed the system of the institution. The researchers construct
ideas in developing the system based on the gathered data.

Subsequently, the analysis of information and process is put into a design as a basis
pattern for easy development of the system interface.

Development Phase
This phase focuses on showing the possible process related to the development of the
system. It involves the construction of conceptual framework that shows processes
related to system development.

Testing Phase
This is one of the most vital phases in system development. Here is where to measure
the system usability, performance according to its features, function and impact or aid to
the user needs. Testing is important to start it as early as possible, and to make testing
a part of the process of deciding requirements

Implementation Phase
The Implementation Phase has one key activity: deploying the new system in its target
environment. Supporting actions include training end-users and preparing to turn the
system over to maintenance personnel. After this phase, the system enters the
Operations and Maintenance Phase for the remainder of the system’s operational life.
Multiple-release projects require multiple iterations of the Implementation Phase – one
for each release. System implementation shall be done after checking of errors and it
will be an immense help to the industries upgrading.
