Learning outcomes
 Ability to use various hardware platforms and/or software tools in different
attack analysis and system development scenarios.
 Appraise the effectiveness of network security mechanisms and evaluate a
range of network protocols and identify associated threats.
 Analyse the strengths and weaknesses of different approaches to intrusion
detection and identify anomalous activity.
 Clear and accurate expression. In the case of coursework, writing concisely to
the page limit, using appropriate and consistent referencing.
 Clear and logical standard of presentation, demonstrating an ability to
structure and coherently organise work.
Specification
Overview
In group of 2, this assignment will allow you to obtain an overall view of the complex
process of Network Security and IoT system development and understand the need
for a methodical approach to assess a system. Also, it will give you an experience of
using various hardware and/or software platforms/ tools for Security Assessments
and present your knowledge in a format suitable for the target audience.
Description
For this assignment will be given multiple options for your project type; you can
choose or propose a topic to work on similar to the ones listed below:

A. Building an IoT Security Demo

 Functional System (raspberry pi/Kali VM/IoT camera/another Sensor/
wireless packet sniffer) or
 Simulated Environment for secure IoT transactions (packet tracer/other).
B. Defending against a certain attack /Gaining access to a vulnerable system
with Demo (pick a vulnerability of an Application system/Operating System
and build/propose feasible defence mechanisms against it) hacking lab
platform can be used.
C. Performing a large case study (e.g. pick up recent Network/IoT/cloud security
attacks and produce a systematic analysis on the associated vulnerabilities,
what caused them, and your suggestion on how to make these systems
secure).
Relationship to formative assessment
This assignment builds on the labs, lectures, and in-class discussions.
Deliverables
1. Project Report: 10-20 pages (70%)
 Introduction / Problem statement – Describe what the problem is and
why it is important, and the project objectives.
 Literature Review
 Methods /Implementation
 Results and Conclusion.
 References: Your coursework should clearly distinguish between your
original words and ideas and those of others. When referring to the work of
others, from books, journals, or any other source (including the internet), it
is essential that you make this clear by acknowledging your source and

video in a zip file on the blackboard. You should upload using the following format
studentID-StudentName.zip e.g. 10000000-Ali.zip.
Everyone in your group needs to submit a copy, it is not enough to have just
one group member submit.
