Of all the amazing people of Philippine history, one name stands as a beacon of
enlightenment, compassion, and unwavering love for the homeland—Jose Rizal. Revered as
the national hero of the Philippines, Rizal's enduring legacy transcends the pages of
textbooks, resonating as a testament to his profound impact on the nation. Beyond his lore
as a revolutionary leader, Rizal's good nature manifested in his unwavering dedication to
uplift his countrymen, champion of education, and an advocate for social justice. Jose Rizal
not only wielded the pen as a powerful weapon against oppression but also embodied the
virtues of a true patriot, leaving an indelible mark on the Philippines that continues to
inspire generations. In this exploration, we delve into the benevolent spirit of Jose Rizal,
examining how his noble nature and significant contributions became a guiding light in the
pursuit of Philippine independence and progress.
Rizal has various contributions to the nation starting off with his literary
masterpieces, "Noli Me Tangere" and "El Filibusterismo." Novels such as these are not only
made of fiction but powerful enough to unmask the harsh realities of Filipino life that were
hidden under the rule of the Spaniards. Rizal observed the injustice, abuse, and corruption
within the nation. However, with these writings awakened the sense of the Filipino
consciousness and gave strength to fight oppression. Secondly, Liga Filipina, an established
organization that focuses on uniting Filipinos together while promoting education and
uplifting the Filipinos’ moral intellect. Not long lasted, however, due to Rizal’s arrest, but
that could not stop the spirit in making good-quality education and enlightenment. With
that said, Rizal was a peace sided kind of person – a pacifist. He empowers education in
advocating change. Rizal believed that problems can be solved through peaceful means and
with that all people could benefit and would have a smile on their faces.
Jose Rizal, our national hero, a person whose nature is rooted in education – the
pride of the nation. As a youth of this modern times, embodying and applying Rizal’s values
is not just a choice but a responsibility wherein we the children of the Philippines could
shape our nation’s future – “Kabataan ang Pag-asa ng Bayan.”
For me, education is the key to improvements and yes you would bump into
unexpected obstacles along the way but the outcome is worth it. Just like Rizal who's
committed to education for me it means a dedication to our intellectual growth and critical
learning. As a “not-so-young” individual it is not just for personal improvements but utilizing
it for the betterment of our society.
As part of an esports organization here in the University of St. Lasalle - Bacolod, we
should not forget our social responsibility. We should always engage in activities not only in
education but provide different ways of engaging activities apart from the usual ones. Giving
aid without asking in return could not only give you satisfaction, but happiness, joy and love.
Helping those communities who are in by giving them a chance to access quality education
through donations and that could address the evolution of an ever-changing community. As
a Lasallian student, we should always uplift our three Lasallian core values – The spirit of
Faith, Zeal for Service and Communion in Mission.
