What I Need To Know

This module deals with typologies of communities. To get into types of

communities is indispensable as we engage into the world of complexities.
Some may label associations, clubs and other groups as communities.
Communities may have a higher degree of nobility in living in a community
life. The module also attempts to differentiate the typologies of communities
as what guiding principles that forming them into cohesion.

After going through this module, you are expected to:

1. Give the meaning of community;
2. Differentiate and discuss typologies of communities ; and
3. Appreciate values shared by the communities for communitarian
development

What’s In

In the previous lesson particularly in community processes, there are

some communities appear to be deviant from the norms and values as held by
the majority or by the oldies. There are some communities appear to be
ideologically oriented whose worldviews different from what common people
hold and believe in. It is then rightfully correct to say that we are in the world
of plurality of communities. This new topic comes in - typologies of
communities.

Below are the pictures that serve as an examples of types of

communities.

A.MUSLIM COMMUNITY

What’s New

At this point, you get to understand now that there are communities
different from communities you are connected to. How do you feel that others’
beliefs and practices are different from what you believe in? Are you
confrontational? imposing ? discriminating? or are you respectful? Tolerant?
Liberal-minded? Are you into attitude that we agree to disagree? Or to
disagree to agree ?

This article is all about a community who defies technological

accommodation. It displays a lifestyle purely of traditional way. Amish
community is presented to you. Read this article in silence with
comprehension.

The Amish have been in America for a long time. The first ones
arrived in the early 18th century to escape religious persecution in
Europe and to find land to farm. It’s founded by Jakob Amman, a
Swish minister who believed that the adherents should `conform to
the teachings of Christ; and ` forsake the world ’in their daily lives.
The word Amish derived from his name. Amish lives in farming,
forbids owning automobiles, tapping electricity from public utility
lines, using self-propelled farm machinery, owning a television,
` radio and computer, attending high school and college, joining the
military, and initiating divorce.’

From what you read, answer the following questions below in one sentence
each in a sheet of paper.
1. What circumstances had brought Amish community to America?
2. What geographic interest Amish was looking for ?
3. What was the action initiated by Amish to bring change to the community?

community?
