20. A business lady bought 100 quails and 80 rabbits for Sh. 25,600. If she had bought twice as many quails
and half as many rabbits she would have paid Sh. 7,400 less. She sold each quail at a profit of 10% and
each rabbit at a profit of 20%.
(a) Form two equations to show how much she bought the quails and the rabbits (2 marks)
(c) Calculate the profit she made from the sale of the 100 quails and 80 rabbits (3 marks)
(d) What percentage profit did she make from the sale of the 100 quails and 80 rabbits. (2 marks)
21. (a) In the year 2001, the price of a sofa set in a shop was Kshs. 12,000. A total of 240 sofa sets were
sold that year. In the year 2002, the price of each sofa set increased by 25% while the number of
sets sold decreased by 10%. Calculate the percentage increase in the amount received from the
sales. (4 marks)
(b) Maina harvested 180 bags of unprocessed rice. Each bag had a mass of 70 kg. He sold all his rice
to a rice dealer who then processed the rice. After processing the mass of the rice decreased in the
ratio 11:12.
(i) Determine the total mass that was lost after processing. (3 marks)
(ii) The rice dealer sold the rice to Mwende, who then repackaged the rice in 50 kg bags.
Mwende then transported the rice in a pickup that could carry a maximum of 33 bags per
trip. If the cost of hiring the pickup for one trip was Ksh. 4000, calculate the total amount
of money spent in transporting the rice. (3 marks)

23. A soda depot had 30816 sodas which were packed in crates. Each crate contained 24 sodas. The mass of
an empty crate was 2 kg and that of a full crate is 12 kg.
(d) A lorry was hired to transport the crates at a cost of sh. 5 per crate of soda and a loading fee of
sh.100 per trip. The lorry could only carry 107 crates per trip. How much money was spent on
transporting all the crates? (4 marks)
24. A salesman is paid a commission of 2% on goods worth over Ksh.100000. He is also paid a monthly
salary of Ksh.12000. In a certain month, he sold 360 pairs of shoes at Ksh.500 each pair.
(b) The following month, his monthly salary was increased by 10%. His total earnings that month
were Ksh.17600. Calculate the Find:
