The Leaves
Hi, I am Alberta
A wild west kind of place
With cows and oil and mountains
And lots of open space.
I am Manitoba
And I‟m Saskatchewan
We‟re the golden prairies
Where fields of wheat grow in the sun
Hi, I am Ontario
The home of government
To me each year the leaders
Of our democracy are sent.
Bonjour, I am Quebec
Here French is my language too
When I want to ask “how are you?”
I say, “commentallezvous?”
Of wonders that you read about, and places you would like to go.
Sing about the shining North, ice and snow and northern lights,
Sing of the Atlantic shore, drifting fog and dark blue seas,
And sing of rugged rocky lands, twisted pines and sparkling lakes,
Howl of moon and call of loon, the roar a rushing river makes.
Then sing of Rocky Mountains tall, furred with forests, capped with snow,
And giant firs and cedars grow beside an ocean green and deep.
And sing of how we think about the land and wildlife in our care,
And try to keep them safe from harm, in every place, no matter where.
Sing about the people who share the country we all know
And sing of how many later came from different lands, yet all belong.
Their hustle and their bustle help to make our country change and grow.
And sing of small communities where people live and work and share,
For if you look for Canada, you‟ll surely find its spirit there.
Now sing a song of Canada, it‟s very simple once you start.
The music lives inside your head, the words are written in your heart.
Aurora Borealis
Ribbons of blue
Curls of yellow
Waves of purple
Swirls of green
Ripples of red
Streams of white
Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that St Nicholas soon would be there.
The Crocodile
Went to the dentist
And sat down in the chair,
And the dentist said, "Now tell me, sir,
Why does it hurt and where?"
And the Crocodile said, "I'll tell you the truth,
I have a terrible ache in my tooth,"
And he opened his jaws so wide, so wide,
That the dentist, he climbed right inside,
And the dentist laughed, "Oh isn't this fun?"
As he pulled the teeth out, one by one.
And the Crocodile cried, "You're hurting me so!
Please put down your pliers and let me go."
But the dentist laughed with a Ho HoHo,
And he said, "I still have twelve to go-
Oops, that's the wrong one, I confess,
But what's one crocodile's tooth more or less?"
Then suddenly, the jaws went SNAP,
And the dentist was gone, right off the map,
And where he went one could only guess...
To North or South or East or West...
He left no forwarding address.
But what's one dentist, more or less?
If I Were in Charge of the World
Or dance a jig, or pet the cat, or drink some milk, or buy a hat,
I'm so confused, and bored, and blue,to not know what I ought to do.
Or wash the dishes, or take a walk, or visit my grandma and have a talk,
I'm so confused, and bored, and blue,to not know what I ought to do.
A kamikaze chimpanzee,
to have a parakeet?
Or a pet that‟s super thin,
Cookin‟ up chlorophyll.
The sun rises higher and higher, like a blossoming flower, as the children play...
Beach, Beach, Beach
The night has fallen and the coyotes holler like babies...
Howl, Howl, Howl
The sun rises again higher and higher, like a blossoming flower
as the children play...
Beach, Beach, Beach
