Pizza Song

Oh, I wish I was a _________________ pizza.

That is what I‟d really love to be.

„Cause if I was a _____________________

pizza,

Everyone would take a bite of me.

Just Plain Me

My name is Maria Melissa McGee

And, frankly, I hate it, it just isn‟t me.

I‟d rather be Delia Detherton Dong.

No Delia‟s too flowery and Detherton‟s too long.

So what about Cecily Sutherland Sump?

No, that won‟t do, it ends with a bump.

Well, maybe PrunellaPardingdaleParkay...

No, that one‟s too fancy. I think I just may

Try Olivia Orpington Ooper – oh, dear,

There are so many names and it‟s really quite clear

That none is just right, so I might as well be

Maria Melissa McGee. That‟s me!

Animals from A to Z

A is ape, B is bee.
C is clownfish in the sea.

D is deer, E is eel.
F is fox who wants a meal.

G is goose, H is hog.
I‟s an inchworm on a log.

Jay is J, Koala‟s K.
L‟s a lion far away.

M is mule, N is newt.
O‟s an ostrich, tall and cute.
P is pig, Q is quail.
R‟s a rat with a curly tail.

Snake is S, turkey‟s T.
U‟s the umbrella bird flying free.

V is viper, worm is W.
Bird‟s “X” hatching.
(Does that joke trouble you?)

Y is yak, zebra‟s Z.
Alphabet animals for you and me!
The Leaves

The leaves had a wonderful frolic.

They danced to the wind‟s loud song.
They whirled, and they floated, and scampered.
They circled and flew along.

The mood saw the little leaves dancing.

Each looked like a small brown bird.
The man in the moon smiled and listened.
And this is the song he heard.

The North Wind is calling, is calling,

And we must whirl round and round,
And then, when our dancing is ended,
We‟ll make a warm quilt on the ground.
Weather and Seasons

What makes weather? Do you know?

What makes rain, and sleet and snow?

I know, I know what makes weather!

Lots of things that work together:

Wind and water and earth‟s rotation

Bring the weather to each nation.

So now we all know what makes weather –

Lots of things that work together.

What makes seasons? Do you know?

What makes summer warm and breezy?

What makes winter cold and sneezy?

What makes autumn crisp and keen?

What makes spring so warm and green?

I know, I know what makes the seasons!

There are lots and lots of reasons:

Earth‟s revolution and its‟ tilt.

That‟s the way seasons are built.

So now we all know what makes the seasons –

There are lots and lots of reasons.

Feelings

When I am sad, I want to cry.

When I am proud, I want to fly.

When I am curious, I want to know.

When I am impatient, I want to go.

When I am bored, I want to play.

When I am happy, I smile all day.

When I am shy, I want to hide.

When I'm depressed, I stay inside.

When I am puzzled, I want to shrug.

When I am loving, I kiss and hug.

What If?

Last night while I lay thinking here,

Some what ifs crawled in my ear

And pranced and partied all night long

And sang the same old what if song.

What if I fail in school?

What if they‟ve closed the swimming pool?

What if nobody likes me?

What if lightning strikes me?

What if I don‟t grow taller?

What if my head grows smaller?

What if the fish won‟t bite?

What if the wind tears up my kite?

What if I flunk the test?

What if green hair grows on my chest?

Everything seems swell and then....

the night time what ifs strike again.

Learning

I'm learning to say thank you.

And I'm learning to say please.
And I'm learning to use Kleenex,
Not my sweater, when I sneeze.
And I'm learning not to dribble.
And I'm learning not to slurp.
And I'm learning
(though it sometimes really hurts me)
Not to burp.
And I'm learning to chew softer
When I eat corn on the cob.
And I'm learning that it's much
Much easier to be a slob.
I’m Staying Home from School Today

I‟m staying home from school today.

I‟d rather be in bed,
pretending that I have a pain
that‟s pounding in my head.

I‟ll say I have a stomachache.

I‟ll claim I‟ve got the flu.
I‟ll shiver like I‟m cold
and hold my breath until I‟m blue.

I‟ll fake a cough. I‟ll fake a sneeze.

I‟ll say my throat is sore.
If necessary, I can throw
a tantrum on the floor.

I‟m sure I‟ll get away with it.

Of that, there‟s little doubt.
But even so, I really hope
my students don‟t find out.
Melinda Made A Snowman

Melinda made a snowman,

which she gave a carrot nose.
She placed some rubber boots
on what she figured were his toes.

Melinda gave him charcoal eyes,

and after one last pat,
upon her snowman‟s frozen head
she placed her father‟s hat.

She thought him nearly finished,

and then as a final note,
she took her father‟s favorite tie
and draped it ‟round his throat.
Melinda was so proud of him,
she rushed upstairs with glee.
She hollered to her mom and dad
to “Hurry, come and see!”

But by the time they came downstairs

Melinda cried and cried.
“Melinda,” Mom and Dad said,
“snowmen must be made outside.”
We are Canada!

My name is British Columbia

The jewel of the West Coast.
Forestry and fishing are
the things that I do most.

Hi, I am Alberta
A wild west kind of place
With cows and oil and mountains
And lots of open space.

I am Manitoba
And I‟m Saskatchewan
We‟re the golden prairies
Where fields of wheat grow in the sun

Hi, I am Ontario
The home of government
To me each year the leaders
Of our democracy are sent.
Bonjour, I am Quebec
Here French is my language too
When I want to ask “how are you?”
I say, “commentallezvous?”

Newfoundland, New Brunswick

And Nova Scotia -- those are we,
We are Atlantic Provinces
The three musketeers of the sea.

I‟m Prince Edward Island

And I know I may be small
But without me all the rest of you
Would have no potatoes at all.

The Yukon, Nunavut and the North West

Territories are up north.
Through ice and cold and polar bears
Few brave souls venture forth.

Together we are Canada

One nation strong and free
With sharing, friends and happiness
Forever we will be!
A Song of Canada

Sing a song of Canada, a song of all the things you know,

Of wonders that you read about, and places you would like to go.

Sing about the shining North, ice and snow and northern lights,

Polar bears and caribou, midnight sun through summer nights.

Sing of the Atlantic shore, drifting fog and dark blue seas,

Mewing gulls and spouting whales, apple blossoms on the trees.

And sing of rugged rocky lands, twisted pines and sparkling lakes,

Howl of moon and call of loon, the roar a rushing river makes.

Sing of the prairies wide, wooded coulee, golden plain,

Buffalo and antelope, rolling range and fields of grain.

Then sing of Rocky Mountains tall, furred with forests, capped with snow,

Where grizzlies prowl and ravens dance

and sudden warm chinook winds blow.

Sing of Pacific coast, where eagles soar and orcas leap,

And giant firs and cedars grow beside an ocean green and deep.

And sing of how we think about the land and wildlife in our care,

And try to keep them safe from harm, in every place, no matter where.

Sing about the people who share the country we all know

First Nations always lived here,

then came French and then British, long ago.

And sing of how many later came from different lands, yet all belong.

The lives and work and hopes and dreams

of many people make us strong.

Sing of cities coast to coast, where busy people come and go

Their hustle and their bustle help to make our country change and grow.

And sing of small communities where people live and work and share,

For if you look for Canada, you‟ll surely find its spirit there.

Now sing a song of Canada, it‟s very simple once you start.

The music lives inside your head, the words are written in your heart.
Aurora Borealis

Flickering flames of colour

Across the Arctic nights.

Ribbons of blue

Curls of yellow

Mysterious northern sights.

Waves of purple

Swirls of green

Earth and sky unite.

Ripples of red

Streams of white

Illuminate the Northern Lights.

Sweet Baby Jesus

Sweet Baby, Jesus, gentle and mild

Born in a manger, sweet, Holy, Child,
Shepherds and Wise Men came from afar,
Seeking a Savior, they followed a star,

Sweet Baby, Jesus, sent from above,

Son of our Father gift of God's love,
With sounds of glory, angels did sing
Heavens rejoiced as they welcomed a King.

Sweet Baby, Jesus, Mary's sweet Child,

Light of our life, sweet Babe so mild,
There in a manger, you are adored,
Jesus, we greet Thee, our Savior, our Lord.

Sweet Baby, Jesus, send peace to earth,

Lift up all hearts through your holy birth.
Now at your crib, as evening draws nigh,
Hear this our praises from earth to the skies.
Twas the Night Before Christmas

Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that St Nicholas soon would be there.

The children were nestled all snug in their beds,

While visions of sugar-plums danced in their heads.
And mamma in her „kerchief, and I in my cap,
Had just settled in for a long winter's nap.

When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,

I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash,
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.

The moon on the crest of the new-fallen snow

Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below.
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a miniature sleigh, and eight tiny reindeer.

With a little old driver, so lively and quick,

I knew in a moment it must be St Nick.
More rapid than eagles his coursers they came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name!
"Now Dasher! Now, Dancer! Now, Prancer and Vixen!
On, Comet! On, Cupid! On, on Donner and Blitzen!
To the top of the porch! To the top of the wall!
Now dash away! Dash away! Dash away all!"

And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof

The prancing and pawing of each little hoof.
As I drew in my head, and was turning around,
Down the chimney St Nicholas came with a bound.

He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot,

And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot.
A bundle of toys he had flung on his back,
And he looked like a peddler, just opening his pack.

His eyes-how they twinkled! His dimples how merry!

His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!
His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,
And the beard of his chin was as white as the snow.

The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth,

And the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath.
He had a broad face and a little round belly,
That shook when he laughed, like a bowlful of jelly!

He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,

And filled all the stockings, then turned with a jerk.
And laying his finger aside of his nose,
And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose!

He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,

And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.
But I heard him exclaim, as he drove out of sight,
"Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night!"
Snowflakes

Hello little snowflake!

Where are all your friends?
Should I expect a lot of them
before the morning ends?

I love it when you come to me

and you all fall down together,
and I get dressed to visit you,
toasty warm in cold, cold weather.

It‟s fun the way you all pile up

outside in my back yard,
and I can roll you in a ball
to make a snowman, it‟s not hard.

Or maybe, I will build a fort.

All my friends will come and play,
and if you plan to stay awhile,
I'll come outside every day.
Sometimes I make snow angels,
and their legs and arms look puffy,
but I can only do that
if you come down light and fluffy.

Could I ask you guys a favor?

White is fine, but nothing‟s duller...
Could you all do one thing, just for me?
Come down in LOTS of colors?
Falling Snow

See the pretty snowflakes

Falling from the sky;

On the wall and housetops

Soft and thick they lie.

On the window ledges,

On the branches bare;

Now how fast they gather,

Filling all the air.

Look into the garden,

Where the grass was green;

Covered by the snowflakes,

Not a blade is seen.

Now the bare black bushes

All look soft and white,

Every twig is laden,

What a pretty sight!

The Crocodile's Toothache

The Crocodile
Went to the dentist
And sat down in the chair,
And the dentist said, "Now tell me, sir,
Why does it hurt and where?"
And the Crocodile said, "I'll tell you the truth,
I have a terrible ache in my tooth,"
And he opened his jaws so wide, so wide,
That the dentist, he climbed right inside,
And the dentist laughed, "Oh isn't this fun?"
As he pulled the teeth out, one by one.
And the Crocodile cried, "You're hurting me so!
Please put down your pliers and let me go."
But the dentist laughed with a Ho HoHo,
And he said, "I still have twelve to go-
Oops, that's the wrong one, I confess,
But what's one crocodile's tooth more or less?"
Then suddenly, the jaws went SNAP,
And the dentist was gone, right off the map,
And where he went one could only guess...
To North or South or East or West...
He left no forwarding address.
But what's one dentist, more or less?
If I Were in Charge of the World

If I were in charge of the world

I'd cancel oatmeal, Monday mornings,
Allergy shots, and also Sara Steinberg.

If I were in charge of the world

There'd be brighter nights lights, healthier hamsters, and
Basketball baskets forty eight inches lower.

If I were in charge of the world

You wouldn't have lonely. You wouldn't have clean.
You wouldn't have bedtimes or "Don't punch your sister."
You wouldn't even have sisters.

If I were in charge of the world

A chocolate sundae with whipped cream
and nuts would be a vegetable
All toys would be free,
And a person who sometimes forgot to brush,
And sometimes forgot to flush,
Would still be allowed to be
In charge of the world.
Decision Making

I don't know what to do today. Perhaps I'll go outside and play,

Or stay indoors and rest a bit, or take a bath, or simply sit.

Or maybe I'll go ride my bike, or make a cake, or take a hike,

Or jump a rope, or scratch my head, or play a game, or stay in bed,

Or dance a jig, or pet the cat, or drink some milk, or buy a hat,

I'm so confused, and bored, and blue,to not know what I ought to do.

I don't know what to do today. Perhaps I'll go outside and play,

Or sing a song, or read a book, or change my socks, or learn to cook,

Or dig a hole, or eat a pear, or call my friends, or brush my hair,

Or hold my breath, or have a race, or stand around and slap my face,

Or wash the dishes, or take a walk, or visit my grandma and have a talk,

I'm so confused, and bored, and blue,to not know what I ought to do.

Making decisions is so hard.

I can‟t decide, I can‟t decide!

Maybe I should just ask you.

What do you think I should do?

Valentine’s Day

Take some paper, take some scissors,

Cut a heart and then design.
Write a message in the middle:
Will you be my Valentine?

Take a doily and some cupids,

Paste them in a line.
Give your card to your best friend
As a special Valentine.

Take a juice can, pick some flowers,

Put them in with colored twine.
Give your present to a loved one.
And they‟ll be your Valentine.

Take some gumdrop and some lollies,

Add some mints six, eight or nine.
Make a dandy box of candy
For your sweetest Valentine.

Here‟s final gift to offer,

It‟s a very special sign:
Give your friendship to someone dear,
To a special Valentine.
Farm Families

A mother sheep is called an ewe,

The father is a ram.
The little newborn baby
Is what we call a lamb.

A mother pig is called a sow,

The father is a boar.
A litter of new piglets
Can number ten or more.

A mother cow is called just that,

The father is a bull.
The baby calf is hungry
And drinks until it‟s full.

A mother horse is called a mare,

The father is the sire.
The little colt on racing legs
Just never seems to tire.

A mother goal is called a nanny,

The father is a billy.
The little goat is called a kid,
Now, doesn‟t that seem silly.
My Very Own Pet

I‟d like a new ferocious pet,

the kind that other kids don‟t get.

Something mean and extra large,

that likes to bite or squeeze or charge.

A kamikaze chimpanzee,

a snake the size of Calgary.

A two tonne kicking kangaroo,

a rhino bigger than a zoo.

A grizzly bear with sharpened claws,

a wild boar with giant jaws.

A porcupine with poison quills,

a tiger shark with razor gills.

An armadillo made of steel,

a nuclear electric eel.

That‟s what I wish I could get –

a vicious, wild and scary pet.

Pet Puzzle

I wonder what kind of pet

Would be the best for me to get?

Please won‟t you be my guest

And help me pick the one that‟s best?

A pet that‟s soft and furry,

With a voice that‟s low and purry.

What kind of pet is that?

You‟re right if you said a cat!

What about one with a beak

That can squawk or squeak?

Oh, wouldn‟t it be neat

to have a parakeet?
Or a pet that‟s super thin,

With slithery scales for it‟s skin?

What kind of pet does this make?

You‟re right if you guessed it‟s a snake!

Or maybe a four-legged friend,

With a wagging tail at one end?

I would teach him to sit up –

You‟re right, that pet‟s a pup!

Oh, no, I can‟t decide

Which pet I want at my side.

Maybe I‟ll just pick all four!

And open up my own pet store!

Mother Doesn’t Want a Dog

Mother doesn't want a dog.

Mother says they smell,
And never sit when you say sit,
Or even when you yell.
And when you come home late at night
And there is ice and snow,
You have to go back out because
The dumb dog has to go.

Mother doesn't want a dog.

Mother says they shed,
And always let the strangers in
And bark at friends instead,
And do disgraceful things on rugs,
And track mud on the floor,
And flop upon your bed at night
And snore their doggy snore.

Mother doesn't want a dog.

She's making a mistake.
Because, more than a dog, I think
She will not want this snake.
The Most Magnificent Zoo

Bumbleraffes and small Squiroose,

The Hipponoceros is loose!

The Babooeetah's running wild,

The Pandelot is looking riled!

Salaphants and sleepy Froat,

The Doladillo's in a boat!

The Carigators stalk around,

The Kangarat is much renowned!

Otterunks and Jagupus,

The Scorpiark I cannot suss!

My wonder zoo has no known match,

But it's not real, now that's the catch!

Fred

My mother gave me a little plant

That was nearly almost dead,

I made up my mind to save it

And I named it Little Fred.

I fertilized and watered Fred

And talked to him a lot;

“Hi Fred!” “Whatcha doin, Fred?”

“Looks like it’s going to be hot.”

And Fred just sat in his little pot

On my bedroom window sill,

Soakin‟ up sunshine and water and words,

Cookin‟ up chlorophyll.

Then one day he started to grow,

He shot out all over the place;

He grew out of bigger and bigger pots,

He grew at a terrible pace.

He grew till he filled up the window

He grew till he filled up the room,

Till he covered the dresser and closet and bed

In a sinister greeny gloom.

After I moved to another room,

We heard rustling noises in there,

And sometimes munchy and crunchy sounds…

I think Fred devoured my chair.

Dad said hewasn‟t scared of a plant

As he marched right through the door;

Fred rustled and munched and burped a bit,

Now Dad‟s not here anymore.

Mom is feling really annoyed,

She says it’s an awful bother;

Nobody wants to buy a house

With a room that eats up fathers.

Now Fred is starting to push his leafy

Fingers around the door….

We‟re packing as fast as we possibly can

And moving to Singapore.

The Robins and the Worm

Two robins had a tug of war

to win a skinny worm.
Each pulled and tugged
and stretched an end.
The poor worm tried to squirm.

At last the robins dropped the worm.

“Cut it in half,” said one.
“Half for me and half for you.”
He chopped, and it was done.

But then the robins had a fight

about which half was whose.
No matter how they squawked
and squabbled,
Neither bird would choose.

The worm halves quickly

crawled away.
Each found a secret hole,
And there it grew and grew until
Each half became a whole.
Defenses

What do animals do to defend

Themselves from those who aren‟t a friend?
Sharks bite with deadly jaws.
Kangaroos kick with sharpened claws.
Porcupines stab with pointed quills.
Woodpeckers peck with powerful bills.
Moose use horns when caught in a fight.
Snakes rely on their poisonous bite.
Clams shut up inside their shells.
Opossums play dead and do it well.
Rabbits hop away very fast.
Electric eels give a shocking blast.
Octopuses shoot an ugly ink.
And skunks make an awful stink!
Chameleons hide in the grass or trees.
Their colors blend in so no one sees.
Gophers race to a hole in the ground,
And birds fly away when there‟s danger around.
Running or hiding or fighting back,
There are many defenses in case of attack.
Life of a Plant

A plant will grow from a tiny seed,

some water and sun is all you need.

First the roots grow underground,

they suck up minerals from all around.

Then come stems, some tall, some stout,

And next the branches spread about.

Leaves grow in all shapes and sizes,

Watch this new life as it rises.

Flowers bloom from buds on stems,

They are as pretty as precious gems.

Some plants give us fruit,

Some have vegetables at the root.

New seeds travel to and fro,

By wind and water they go.

And the cycle keeps going on,

Soon new stems and leaves are showing.
Bugs at Home

There once was a tick

Whose name was Tock,
He made his home beneath a rock.

There once was a bee

Whose name was Clive,
He made his home inside a hive.

There once was spider

Whose name was Jeb,
He made his home out of a web.

There once was an ant

Whose name was Jill,
She made her home inside a hill.

Rock, hive, web, hill,

You can believe me or not as you will.
If they‟re not gone, they‟re living there still.
Toc, Clive, Jeb and Jill.
Learning

At the beginning of September

You came into my class, how well I remember.

Some of you were smiling and giggling a lot

Some were very quiet and a few tears I could spot.

You came here to learn, to be taught how to read

You were then very much like a tiny new seed.

You were all in my garden just waiting to grow

So this gardener got busy with her rake and her hoe.

I fed you the water and let in the sun

You took in the soil, but we had only begun.

Each day as I worked in this garden of mine

I saw you all growing so strong and so fine.

Then finally one day I took a good look

And saw each of my flowers reading a book.

It was obvious then that you had worked too

Soaking up all the food I had given to you.

But although you have blossomed, you still need to grow

So I'll pass some of you on to another gardener I know.

I hope you will keep your roots open wide

Take in all the food offered and keep it inside.

Yes, a gardener can work all night and all day

But the flower must be willing to take in each ray.

So work very hard in your garden each year

Do the best you can and you'll have nothing to fear.

Grow strong and tall, reach up for the sun

Stay as nice as you are and have lots of fun.
This Land is Your Land

This land is your land, this land is my land,

From Bonavista, to Vancouver Island
From the Arctic Circle to the Great Lakes waters,
This land was made for you and me.

As I went walking that ribbon of highway,

I saw above me that endless skyway;
I saw below me that golden valley
This land was made for you and me.

I roamed and I rambled and I followed my footsteps,

To the sparkling sands of her diamond deserts;
While all around me a voice was sounding,
Saying this land was made for you and me.

The sun came shining, and I was strolling,

And the wheat fields waving and the dust clouds rolling;
As the fog was lifting, a voice was chanting,
This land was made for you and me.

This land is your land, this land is my land,

From Bonavista to Vancouver Island;
From the Arctic Circle to the Great Lakes waters,
This land was made for you and me.
Canada in My Pocket

I've got Canada in my pocket

A little bit of history
A penny, and a nickel
And a quarter and a dime
Mean a lot to you and me
It's more than pocket money
They're the symbols of our land
They're pictures of important things
For which this country stands

The beaver, oh the beaver

Is a beautiful sight to see
He's a happy, furry animal
Like a teddy bear with teeth
He's never ever lazy
He works all night and day
Building houses for his family
He's got no time to play

The schooner, oh the schooner

Is a beautiful sight to see
It's a great big wooden sailing ship
That can sail across the sea
It brings to other countries
The things their people need
And brings back things
Like chocolate bars
And books for us to read

The caribou, the caribou

Is a beautiful sight to see
He's a really big strong animal
I'm sure you'll all agree
He looks like Santa's reindeer
And he loves it when
The wind blows cold
So he lives up north
With the polar bears
'Cause he likes the ice and snow
Swoosh, Boom, Crunch, Howl

The sun rises higher and higher, like a blossoming flower, as the children play...
Beach, Beach, Beach

The zephyr catches my skin like a wide receiver playing football...

Swoosh, Swoosh, Swoosh

The crashing waves sound like a head-on collision...

Boom, Boom, Boom

The sand crunches under my feet like cereal in my mouth...

Crunch, Crunch, Crunch

The salty water is carried with the wind...

Howl, Howl, Howl

The gulls soar higher than the clouds...

Swoosh, Swoosh, Swoosh

The child crashes to the ground like a rock slide...

Boom, Boom, Boom

The man walks on shells that feel like needles...

Crunch, Crunch, Crunch

The dog is angered by the birds...

Howl, Howl, Howl

The kite flutters like a plane...

Swoosh, Swoosh, Swoosh

The afternoon thunder blasts like a

cannon...
Boom, Boom, Boom

The child snacks on some chips that sound

like glass...
Crunch, Crunch, Crunch

The night has fallen and the coyotes holler like babies...
Howl, Howl, Howl

The sun rises again higher and higher, like a blossoming flower
as the children play...
Beach, Beach, Beach
