Itls Lesson
each class is
Lesson one
Materials
● Each kid is to have a notebook that they will start the day drawing in
● On each table I want to have a little shower caddie filled with art supplies: the art
supplies they can use for their 5-minute drawing time at the beginning of class will be
colored pencils, regular pencils a sharpener for both for
● these and markers.
● A jar full of drawing prompts will be written by the students on the first day of school
● Presi presentation
● Storage crates that have each class’s name on them for them to store their art books
Lesson plan
● Each lesson starts with 5 minutes of drawing the kids will pull out their notebooks from
their class-assigned storage box and draw something related to the prompt
○ There is a jar of art prompts that the students will draw a prompt out of the jar
marked on role will be who has already drawn the next person on the list should
be allowed to draw the prompt
The focus of this lesson is how art represents us
● After 5 minutes of drawing go to the Presi slide show
○ Spend about five minutes on each slide
The questions addressed
● The Presi slideshow!
● Where do we see art?
● Does the art in our community represent us?
● Who does the art in museums represent?
○ Depending on the museum it can portray the history of our community or country
it can show us cultures around the world it gives us a peak into other worlds
● Why are these important?
○ It's important to understand where other people come from so we can have
sympathy and we can be aware of other people
●
● How do we convey meaning in art?
○ Colors
■ Cool colors are usually more subdued and sad they often show sadness
loneliness or calm
■ Warm colors are happy and exciting they often show good happy
moments or they can show anger
■ Calm colors can be green and blue usually but those aren't the only
colors that can portray those emotions
■ Red means anger or excitement
● Art form
○ Not only the medium but the way you use the medium in painting if it is stroke
and aggressive it can be intense feelings
○ Usually in sculpting, you see peaceful capturing of humans
○ Every medium can be used to portray different feelings but some just stick out
when you have an idea
Example
● Show the example
○ This is on the Presi under my recreation
○ Talk about how things might not have clear apparent meaning
○ To me, tulips have a lot of personal meaning
○ Tulips are the flower that my grandpa got my grandma for her birthday before he
died while that might be a sad thought this memory is overall happy for me so I
made it a happy scene using bright colors i based the piece off of some art I saw
while traveling with my sister and parents it was a very happy time for me where I
got to be really close to my family. My family is very important to me so I chose to
represent myself through this.
● While my recreation is small I want you to do this on a larger scale
● Make sure to find a piece of art that you would like to recreate in your style to represent
yourself bring in a picture or have a parent email it to the teacher or if okay with parents
to bring in the piece just bring in some version of it
● Make sure the students all return their notebooks to their class bin
An Email should be sent home about this so that parents can help the kids choose something
Hello Parents!
These next few weeks our class will be learning about how meaning and culture is conveyed in
art. As part of our unit, the students have been asked to find and bring a picture or copy of an
art piece that they want to recreate in a way that represents themselves. If the student has a
phone they are welcome to take a picture on their phone and reference that for their project
otherwise they need to bring in a physical copy of this art piece it can be black and white and on
printer paper. If this is not something that you are able to do you are welcome to send me a
copy of the art piece they want to recreate for me to print out as long as it is sent to me by
Monday of next week so I have a day to print them before our class.
I appreciate you supporting your child in this project! If you have any questions or concerns
please contact me.
Have a wonderful day
Miss. Fruit
Lesson 2
Lesson prep
As said in the email the teacher or sub will need to print any pictures sent before class
for kids to reference
Materials needed students' notebooks
Caddie with art supplies
Standard 4 vr 1 students should reflect on a medium before and after working in that
medium
Standard 4 VCO 1 students will create art that reflects their culturally
Strand responds 4vr students will understand how art conveys meaning for the artist
and audience
Each lesson starts with 5 minutes of drawing the kids will pull out their notebooks from their
class-assigned storage box and draw something related to the prompt
There is a jar of art prompts that the students will draw a prompt out of the jar marked on role
will be who has already drawn the next person on the list should be allowed to draw the prompt
After the warmup drawing time is done ask each child to take out their picture if the parent has
sent the picture over email it should have been printed out in the prep period
Hand out the photos that were printed by the teacher or sub while the other students find theirs
if they don't have a photo they can choose one of these
This should take a few minutes
Next students will reflect on the medium they will be using for their recreation
They should be given 5-10 minutes to copy these into their notebooks and respond to them. If
needed students can be given extra time
This prompt should be written on the board for students to copy into their notebooks and
answer.
Have you used this medium before?
Do you like this medium?
Do you think this medium was a good choice for the art piece you are choosing to recreate?
Do you think this medium will be hard to use?
After the students have finished answering the questions split them into a few groups
These groups should be based on what medium was used in the art piece they brought. This is
purely to see what things need to be prepped for use.
Rather than having them separate by paint and type of paint, all paint will be in one group
Sculptures will be using clay
Drawing will be done using a pencil or colored pencil
Oil pastel will be using crayons or oil pastels
Pastel will use pastels if available or colored pencils
If any student doesn’t know the teacher or sub can help them
Each student's name and medium should be marked on a piece of paper so we can prep for the
next class
For the remainder of class, students should draw in their sketchbooks in the same style as the
picture they chose this should be till the end of class about 15 minutes
Before the students leave mention that seating will be diffrent as the tables will be set up so that
kids who are working in the same mediums will be sitting together
At the end of the lesson, each student should put their notebook in their class bin
Lesson three
Lesson prep/materials
referring to the list of what students are using and what mediums
lay out acrylic paint and cups with water either disposable plates or pallets
Next place cadies on the tables that are drawing with pencil or colored pencil pastels if available
Place our crayons or oil pastels on the tables for the kids who need them
For clay lay a canvas cloth on the table or leave extra time to clean the clay off the tables at the
end of the period about 10 minutes to clean without cloth need plastic gallon bags
As kids will be in different seats today remind them to sit where the medium they will be using
today is set up there is no specific seating other than sitting where your medium is set up
Each lesson starts with 5 minutes of drawing the kids will pull out their notebooks from their
class-assigned storage box and draw something related to the prompt
There is a jar of art prompts that the students will draw a prompt out of the jar marked on role
will be who has already drawn the next person on the list should be allowed to draw the prompt
After they finish the drawing prompt they should pull out their sketches and start working on the
background for those not sculpting the background is what they should start with
After the background they should make the main forms and the base colors then layer by layer
build up the art the top and finest details should be on top
For the people sculpting, they should decide what the main form is and sculpt that they should
be taught how to attach different things to the main form if the teacher is there demonstration
will be in person in a sub the video should be shown
●
For those using pastels when class ends show them how to cover the pictures they are creating
both oil and regular pastel
Ten minutes till the end of class for the kids who do clay have them start to clean up wash off
the tools they use and wipe down the tables because they have a few more days to work on the
projects place the clay items in a gallon bag and seal it so they won't dry out
