Modern social media really began in the late 1990s with the rise of blogging and sites like SixDegrees and has since grown exponentially with the creation of major sites like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and more in the 2000s and 2010s. Social media now impacts nearly all aspects of society including socialization, business, politics, education, and job hiring.
