IV. PROCEDURES Teacher’s Activity Learner’s Expected Response
Preliminary Activity - Please stand for the prayer (point student to - Let us put ourselves in Holy
lead the prayer) presence of God. In the
name of the father, the son,
and the holy spirit. Amen.
- Good afternoon class! - Good afternoon, ma’am.
- Is there any absent today? - None, ma’am.
- Okay! I’m glad to hear that. - Yes ma’am.
- Did I give you an assignment?
- Kindly past it forward.
A. Reviewing previous - Now, as a sort of review who can define

- Before we proceed to our new topic today,
let’s have first an activity, it is also a hint
for you to know what will be our topic this
morning.
- This activity is called Arranging Colors. I
will group you into two. I have here an
envelope consisting of different kinds of
colors; I will give it to you by group. All
you have to do is to arrange the colors
according to the color of the rainbow. Do
you understand? (Group Activity)
- The group who will finish first will be
declare the winner.
- Any question?
B. Establishing a purpose - So, our topic for today is all Network
for the lesson Cable Installation.
- Please read the following objectives for us
to be guided for today’s topic.
a. Identify the different types of cable;
b. Create Straight-through cable by
following the proper procedures; (Students will read the lesson

cables.
a. Presenting examples/ - Before we proceed to our proper
instances of the new discussion, we will be having an unlocking
lesson words that we will encounter in our topic
today.

TRADE TERMS:
 Networking- a system of computers,
peripherals, terminals, and databases
connected by communications lines
 Cable - a group of wires, glass fibers, etc.,
covered in plastic or rubber and used to
carry electricity or electrical signals
 Installation-the act or process of making a
machine, a service, etc., ready to be used in
a certain place.
 Crimp - to cause to become wavy, bent, or
pinched.

- Network Cabling- also called as LAN

Cabling or Ethernet Cabling. It is the
standard for connecting computers and
devices to a LAN. ETHERNET is a LAN
technology that defines a system for
connecting computers in a LAN and was
developed by Robert Metcalfe and Xerox
PARC in 1976.
- There are two standards cable for wiring
Ethernet. The first is the T568A wiring
standard and the second is T568B.

1. Straight through cable is a type of twisted

pair cable that is used in local area networks to
connect a computer to a network hub such as a
router. This type of cable is also sometimes
called a patch cable and is an alternative to
wireless connections where one or more
computers access a router through a wireless
signal. On a straight through cable, the wired
pins match. Straight through cable use one
wiring standard: both ends use T568A wiring
standard or both ends use T568B wiring
standard. The following figure shows a straight
through cable of which both ends are wired as
the T568B standard.
Use straight through Ethernet cable for the
following cabling:
• Switch to router
• Switch to PC or server
• Hub to PC or server

2. Crossover Ethernet cable is a type of

Ethernet cable used to connect computing
devices together directly. Unlike straight
through cable, the RJ45 crossover cable uses
two different wiring standards: one end uses
the T568A wiring standard, and the other end
uses the T568B wiring standard. The internal
wiring of the Ethernet crossover cables
reverses the transmission and receive signals. It
is most often used to connect two devices of
the same type: e.g. two computers (via network
interface controller) or two switches to each
other.
Use crossover cables for the following cabling:
• Switch to switch
• Switch to hub
• Hub to hub
• Router to router
• Router Ethernet port to PC NIC
• PC to PC

concepts and practicing When talking about cable pinouts, we often get
new skills #1 questions as to the difference in Straight-
through and Crossover wiring of cables and the
intended use for each type of cable. These
terms are referring to the way the cables are
wired (which pin on one end is connected to
which pin on the other end.

c. Discussing new - Class, please take note and remember the
concepts and practicing color coding of our types of Ethernet
new skills #2 Cables.
- Again, what are the different types of - Yes ma’am
Ethernet Cables? - Straight-through and
- Very good! Crossover Cables
- So, any question before we proceed to our
demonstration? - None so far ma’am
- Now class I will demonstrate on how to
create an Ethernet Cable. Let us know first
the tools and materials needed for our
demonstration. Kindly read.
List of Tools
- PPE (Personal Protective
Equipment)
- RJ45 Crimping tool
- Wire cutter, stripper or plier
- Ethernet cable Tester/LAN
Tester
List of Materials
- Ethernet Cable (UTP cable)
- RJ45 Connector
-
- In creating Ethernet Cable, there are some
safety precautions to be followed.
Safety Precautions:
 Wear personal protective equipment.
 Remove your watch and jewelry and
secure loose clothing.
 Tie back long hair.
 Do not allow cables to get wet.
 Keep your workplace clean.
 Tools and equipment should always be
carefully handed with care.

- So those are the reminders that we are going

to follow.

- Kindly read the procedure while I’ll

demonstrate to you the proper way on creating
Ethernet cable.
Procedure
1. Cut into the plastic shealth 1 inch from the
end of the cut cable.
2. Unwind and pair the similar colors.
3. Pinch the wires between your fingers and
straighten them out.
(note: the color order is important to do
this correctly)
4. Use scissors/wire cutter to make a straight
cut across the wires ½ inch from the cut
sleeve to the end of the wires.
5. Push the wires into the connector.
6. Take the view from the top.
7. In crimping the cable – carefully place the
connector into the Ethernet Crimper and
cinch down on the handles tightly.
8. Test the cable by using cable tester.

- This is now the Ethernet Cable (the teacher

present the finished output)
- What can you say class about creating
Ethernet Cable? - It’s very easy to create
- Exactly! ma’am as long as you
followed the correct
- Some more? procedures.
(students raising their hands)
- Can we use other cable?
- That’s a perfect question! Since we used
Ethernet Cable that is just for Ethernet port
(LAN) which is the standard type of physical
connector for network cables. Every cable has
its different unique purposes.

- Is there any question and clarification class?

- Now class, I’m done demonstrating on
d. Developing mastery how to create Ethernet Cable. Now it’s
your turn to make your own by following
the proper procedure.
- Now, for our activity, I will group you into
four (4), Create Ethernet Cable. Each
group should create straight-through and
crossover cable.
- Do your best class because I have here a
reward for those group who did their best
for a perfect output.
- Is it clear?
- Before we will start, let’s identify first our
rubrics for your output.

Cross-over. Straight-through is an Ethernet

to connect a pc to a network hub
and router. This is the standard
cable used for almost all
purposes while Cross-over cable
can be used to connect two
network devices directly,
without the need for a router in

some of the pins so that the
output on one computer is being
sent to the input of another.
