MATHEMATICS – Grade X

(Project guidelines for 2024-2025)

Suggested Topics for Project 1 (Theory)

1) Various types of “Cryptarithm”

Explain in detail what is Cryptarithm and its types. Give at least five examples to explain the topic. Try to
create your own Cryptarithms.

2) Survey of various types of Bank accounts, rates of interest offered:

Explain the uses of bank, collect information about any three bank accounts. The rate of interest offered
for these accounts. Explain in detail about Recurring Deposit account. Derive the formula for calculating
interest and maturity value of recurring deposit account. Stick pictures related to the topic.

3) Goods and service tax:

Explain various types of taxes collected by the government. Explain CGST, SGST, IGST.
Attach some bills where GST is shown and explain how GST has been calculated in the bill and the tax
received by central and state government. Give at least three examples. Explain the GST rates and give
two examples to which the particular GST rate is applicable.

4) Circles:
Define the terms related to circles. State two theorems based on arc properties, two theorems based on
cyclic properties and two theorems based on tangent properties. Derive the theorems which you have
stated and create two sums for each of your own for which the theorems can be applied.

5) Volume and surface area:

Explain how cylinders, cone and sphere are derived from plane figures. Draw flat cut outs of each solid
and use it to derive surface area and volume formula of each. Stick the flat cutouts on the left side of
the project.

6) Planning a Home budget:

Explain the importance of planning a home budget. Then do comparative study of Lower income,
Middle-income, High-income group. Or at least two listed groups. Check the relationship in earnings,
expenditure, saving. Represent the data on graph.

Suggested Topics for Project 2 (Practical)

1) Shares and dividends.

Define terms related to the topic. Choose 2 companies of your choice and track their share price
movement for a month. Reasons for fluctuations. Suggest which one will be the better investment.
Represent the movement of share prices in the form of graph – can paste cuttings from the newspaper.

2) Probability
Define terms related to probability, uses of probability in daily life (at least three examples).
For the following events represent the data on a graph sheet
i) Toss a coin 50 times and note the outcomes and represent the outcomes on a graph sheet or any
other appropriate pictorial representation. Repeat the same with two coins.

ii) Roll a die 50 times and note the outcomes and represent the outcomes on a graph sheet or any
other appropriate pictorial representation. Repeat the same with two dice.

3) Heights and Distances:

Explain how trigonometry can be used in our daily life. Measure the height of an object using the
concept of trigonometry and with the help of a Clinometer. Give at least three examples with three
observations for each.

4) Statistics:
Conduct a survey in your locality to study the mode of conveyance / Price of various essential
commodities / favourite sports. Represent the data using a histogram and estimate the mode.
Conduct a survey (at least 30 respondents from various age groups) in your locality to study mode of
conveyance/ Choice of car, colour etc/ Favourite food/ Favourite sports. Represent the data using a
histogram and estimate the mode. Check for relationship between age & conditions given.

5) Volume and surface area:

List the volume and surface area of cylinder, cone, sphere. Measure the dimensions of any two
objects (for each shape) at your home or surrounding. Calculate the surface area and volume of each
object chosen.

6) Size transformation:
Explain the concept applied in size transformation. List at least five practical applications of size
transformation. Explain scale factor. Draw at least three maps between two places of your choice
using scale factor.
OR
Explain the concept applied in size transformation. List at least five practical applications of size
transformation. Explain scale factor. Draw any three pictures of your choice and its transformation
(enlargement and reduction) of the same picture with a scale factor.
