Desktop Publishing with Microsoft Publisher

In this assignment, you will be creating files for a new business that you will be opening
soon. Think what type of business you would like to open and think of a name for your
business. Complete the following steps to create the files for your business.

Part 1: Create a Logo in Microsoft PowerPoint

• Start Microsoft PowerPoint and change the layout to a blank slide.
• Insert a shape in your blank slide. Some kind of banner would probably be good.
• Change the color and style to something you think will look good for your company
logo.
• Add some text in the shape for your company name.
• Save the drawing as a Picture: Right-click on the drawing and choose Save as picture.
Name the picture something like Logo and save to your project folder.
• You will use this Logo in all of the Microsoft Publisher assignments below.

Part 2: Create a Business Card in Microsoft Publisher

Start Microsoft Publisher.
Create a business card for your business. Be sure to include the following information (you
can make stuff up if needed)
• Logo
• Company Name
• Your name and title (Eg. Owner, President, Manager)
• Address
• Phone
• Email
• Web address

Save the publisher file as Business Card to your project folder. Also save the file as a PDF
file.

Part 3: Create a Letterhead in Microsoft Publisher

In Microsoft Publisher create a Letterhead for your business. Be sure to include the
following information:
• Logo
• Company Name
• Address
• Phone
• Email
• Web address

Save the publisher file as Letterhead to your project folder. Also save the file as a PDF file.
Part 4: Create a Flyer in Microsoft Publisher
You decide to have an Open House party to introduce your business to the surrounding
neighborhoods. Use Publisher to create a Flyer about the Open House to post around the
area.

In Microsoft Publisher create a Flyer for the Open House. Choose one of the templates that
has the vertical tear-offs at the bottom. Be sure to include the following information:
• Logo
• Company Name
• Address
• Open House
• Date and Time of the Open House
• A little information about what your company does, if it isn’t obvious
• Promise some kind of food (Eg. Cookies and punch, hors d'oeuvres, cake)
• Door prizes

Edit the phone tear-offs at the bottom so that it contains the following:
• Company Name
• Phone Number
• Web Address

You should only have to edit one of the tear-offs and all the others should change to match.

If you chose a template that didn’t have tear-offs at the bottom, it is possible to add them
by doing the following:
• Select Insert menu
• Click the break out box option in the Building Blocks group (arrow on the bottom
right corner)
• Click Business Information
• Choose Phone Tear-off and Click on Insert
• You can then move the new tear-off object to the bottom of the page. Also, when
you resize it, tear-offs will be added or taken away based on the size.

Save the publisher file as Flyer to your project folder. Also save the file as a PDF file.

Part 5: Create Thank You Notes (Greeting Card) in Microsoft Publisher

You want to send thank you notes to the people who attended your open house. Use the
steps below to create them.
In Microsoft Publisher choose one of the Greeting Card or Thank You Card designs.

Be sure to include the following items in your card:

• Thank You for Attending the Open House
• Logo
• Company Name
• Address
• Phone
• Email
• Web address

Save the publisher file as Thank You Note to your project folder. Also save the file as a PDF
file.

Part 6: Turn everything into BlackBoard

the business card, letterhead, flyer, and thank you note.

Attach the zip file to the assignment in Blackboard and submit.
