Dangers of Handphone use in Teenager


Almost all teenagers already have Handphones. Students who own Handphones often bring
their Handphones to school. It is not uncommon for them to use handphones during school hours.
The benefits of handphones are varied, apart from communicating, handphones are also used for
calculating, accessing the internet, sending messages, playing games and social networking such as
Facebook, Instagram or Twitter. They also often access it while the learning process is in progress.
However, as time goes by, handphones can have a bad impact if we become addicted to using them.
especially for teenagers like us. Signs that a teenager is addicted to a handphone are using it more than
6-8 hours a day. Another impact is that children have individualism, namely they prefer playing with
handphones rather than socializing with their surroundings. Mobile phone addiction can also have an
impact on health, causing physical activity to begin to decrease due to not moving around as much.
According to statistics from the digital marketing research institute e-marketer estimates, in 2018, the
number of active smartphone users in Indonesia will be more than 100 million people. With that
number, Indonesia will become the country with the fourth largest active smartphone users in the
world after China, India and America.
Using social media on handphones also has a bad impact. The social media most frequently used by
the younger generation today are Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. Many teenagers use social media
to express their feelings or something that they think should be revealed on social media without
caring about the impact that will arise.
As reported by ‘Gwenn Schurgin O'Keeffe and Kathleen Clarke-Pearson’ from the results of their
research published recently in Pediatrics.aappublications, there are several bad effects if children are
addicted to social media. Using social media can be very risky if parents are not aware of it.
Some of the negative impacts that can arise are children becoming lazy and losing track of time,
bullying on social media or cyberbullying, sexting or sending, receiving sexual messages, photos or
images via handphone, computer or other digital devices.
Therefore, after knowing how big the influence is, students must be aware of it from now on. In the
life of modern society, the existence of Handphones, in addition to bringing considerable benefits, is
also not free from the negative influences they cause. Especially among students or students,
especially teenagers, they have to be clever in sorting and choosing what is good and what is bad.
Because the next generation of this nation is in their hands.
The role of parents is also very important in supervising their children's use of handphones. with strict
supervision, it is hoped that these bad impacts will not easily occur on students and students,
especially teenagers.
