Personal Reflection

Introduction
My name is Maayan Yitzchaki. I am a kindergarten Hebrew teacher at
Atlanta Jewish Academy (AJA) in Sandy Spring, Ga. I have been teaching for
about 25 years. This is my second-year teaching at AJA. I am responsible for
teaching 15 Kindergarten students, ages 5-6, Hebrew vocabulary, reading
and writing. I also teach about Israeli culture and Judaic Studies. Prior to
teaching at AJA I taught 1st grade Hebrew at The Epstein School for 10
years.
Atlanta Jewish Academy’s
professional learning culture:

The Atlanta Jewish Academy has a unique Professional Development structure. Every
Wednesday students come in at 8:45, while teachers participate in Professional Development.
Elementary school teachers participated in The Kennesaw State University Personalized Learning
Track. Teachers have participated in the following Professional Development trainings: Blogger
training Legacy Heritage TiTech Program at MIT, Fundations/ Wilsons training, Learning without
Tears training, Teacher Leadership Program at Brandeis University, supported by Legacy
Heritage , Responsive Classroom, Civic Spirit’s 2023-24 Educators Cohort, Center For Initiatives
In Jewish Education (CIJE), and Granite Ivrit. The ECD-8th Grade Hebrew Coordinator and
Reggio Emilia Coach had the opportunity last year to fly to Reggio-Emilia, Italy, and see firsthand
the Reggio Emilia approach. She shared with the teachers what she experienced and is coaching
us in this approach. There are a variety of Professional Learning opportunities that are offered to
teachers according to their specific teaching needs. Teachers have a voice and can request to
participate in specific Professional Learning opportunities. Professional learning is aligned to the
school’s improvement goals and the school budgets for professional learning in addition to
receiving title 2 funds.
• Prior to beginning my degree at KSU I didn’t use
ISTE standards in my instructional practice. As I
progressed in my classes and learned more, I
began using the ISTE standards and my
Changes in instructional practice changed. I am now much more
goal oriented as I plan my lessons and the use of
my practice technology in my classroom. The designer standard
is crucial in guiding my lesson planning to design
due to authentic, meaningful activities that align with
content area standards. It is very important to me to
using the follow the Analyst standard when building
assessments. I have learned how important it is for
ISTE students to have a choice of alternative
assessments to demonstrate competency. Using a
Standards variety of digital tools to create formative and
summative assessments to accommodate learner
needs and inform my teaching practice in real time.
Artifact that I am proud of:

• I am particularly proud of Artifact 2 In my portfolio. In this artifact, I created a

blog for the first time. I created and contributed to discussion posts created
by others. I discussed with my learning network sites that we can use to support
our students in their learning. The blog gave me the opportunity to support my
network in their learning by sharing ideas and resources. In this artifact I
participated actively in local and global digital networks such as Facebook and
WhatsApp groups. These groups provided me with many new resources that I
wasn’t aware of previously. I also learned that I have a lot to contribute and am
able to provide my peers with support and tools.
One area of the ISTE Standards that I
want to explore more and integrate
deeper into my practice

• I would like to integrate the Leader standard

deeper into my practice. I think it is very
important that I advocate more for equitable
access to educational technology in order to
meet the needs of all students. I would also
like to seek out opportunities to model the
use of digital tools for my colleagues.
