ABSTRACT:
The project features of an IoT device based on the A9G module and ESP32 Microcontroller,
offering versatile functionalities.
It combines GPS tracking, SOS button, and an audio spy feature, catering to various
applications.
Users can discreetly monitor audio conversations via a cellular network, ensuring security and
surveillance. The SOS button provides enhanced personal safety by sharing the user's location
via SMS and initiating an SOS call when pressed and held. Real-time location retrieval is
possible by sending a simple SMS command, receiving a Google Maps link with precise
coordinates. Custom-designed PCBs streamline hardware integration, making it user-friendly.
The project offers a kit for enthusiasts to replicate the device's capabilities, encouraging further
exploration in the field of IoT. Its multifunctionality makes it a valuable tool for security,
surveillance, and personal safety, showcasing practical IoT solutions.

INTRODUCTION:
The "Multipurpose IoT Tracker" project represents a significant advancement in the field of
Internet of Things (IoT) technology, offering a versatile solution with a range of practical
applications. In this report, we delve into the development and implementation of this innovative
device, which combines the capabilities of GPS tracking, audio surveillance, and an SOS button.
The project leverages cutting-edge components, including the A9G module, ESP32-based board,
and custom-designed printed circuit boards (PCBs) to create a compact and efficient
multipurpose IoT tracker.
With the ever-expanding applications of IoT technology, the need for multifunctional and
adaptable tracking devices has grown exponentially. This project addresses this demand by
providing a solution that not only tracks real-time GPS coordinates but also enables discreet

MOTIVATION:

The motivation behind the "Multipurpose IoT Tracker" project originates from the increasing
need for comprehensive tracking and safety solutions in today's dynamic world. Traditional
devices often offer singular functionalities, leaving gaps in security and convenience. This
project seeks to empower users with a compact and versatile tool that can address multiple
scenarios, from tracking valuable assets to ensuring personal safety. By merging GPS tracking,
audio surveillance, and SOS capabilities, this project aims to provide a holistic solution that
caters to a diverse range of applications, enhancing security and peace of mind in an
interconnected society.

EXISTING SYSTEMS:
1. Traditional GPS Trackers: Traditional GPS trackers provide location information but
lack additional features like audio surveillance and SOS functionality. They are primarily
used for vehicle tracking and asset monitoring.
2. Audio Surveillance Devices: Standalone audio surveillance devices offer the capability
to listen to conversations discreetly but do not include GPS tracking or SOS features.
They are often used for security and surveillance purposes.
3. Emergency SOS Devices: SOS devices are designed solely for emergency situations,
allowing users to send distress signals or call for help. They do not provide GPS tracking
or audio surveillance functionality.
4. IoT Tracking Solutions: Some IoT tracking solutions offer GPS tracking and data
transmission but may not incorporate the additional features of audio surveillance and
SOS buttons. These solutions are often used in logistics and fleet management.

PROBLEM STATEMENT/OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT:

1. Security and Safety Needs:


 Problem Statement: In an increasingly connected world, individuals require effective and
versatile solutions to address personal safety, security, and monitoring needs.
 Objective 1: Develop a compact and multifunctional IoT device that integrates GPS
tracking, an SOS button, and audio monitoring capabilities to cater to a wide range of
safety and security requirements.
2. Discreet Monitoring and Emergency Response:
 Problem Statement: Conventional methods for monitoring and emergency response may
lack discretion or may not offer comprehensive solutions.
 Objective 2: Enable discreet audio monitoring through the IoT device, allowing users to
remotely listen to audio conversations over a cellular network while ensuring privacy and
legality.
 Objective 3: Implement an SOS button on the device, facilitating immediate access to
help by sharing the user's location via SMS and initiating an emergency call when
needed.
3. Location Retrieval and Convenience:
 Problem Statement: Accessing real-time location information for tracking or emergency
purposes may not always be convenient.
 Objective 4: Develop a system for users to retrieve the device's current location by
sending a simple SMS command, providing them with quick and convenient access to
GPS coordinates.
4. Hardware Integration and Customization:
 Problem Statement: Integrating multiple functionalities into a single, compact device can
be challenging, and existing solutions may lack customization options.
 Objective 5: Design custom PCBs to optimize space utilization and simplify hardware
integration, ensuring the device is user-friendly and adaptable.
5. Knowledge Sharing and Replication:
 Problem Statement: Many innovative IoT solutions remain inaccessible or difficult for
enthusiasts to replicate.
 Objective 6: Offer a kit for enthusiasts to replicate the device, promoting knowledge
sharing and encouraging exploration and adoption of IoT technology for safety and
security applications.

K Nikitha, H.S. Niranjana Murthy (2022) continuous tracking and SOS functionality for
IoT. It uses micro-controllers, GPS, GSM
modules to send location data to registered users
via SMS. The data is stored in a database,
accessible through a website hosted online.

Bharadwaj Kummamuru This project involves designing a GPS tracker


Kakatiya University, Students (2021) using NodeMCU ESP8266, a secure and reliable
technology for vehicle tracking worldwide.
NodeMCU's I/O pins and built-in Wi-Fi make it
a convenient choice for such applications.

ALGORITHM:

1. Power on the tracker device.

2. Send the message "Send location".

3. Check if the network is available.


o If yes, go to step 4.
o If no, go to step 6.

4. Check if the tracker receives the message.


o If yes, go to step 5.
o If no, go to step 8.

5. Check if the tracker finds GPS.


o If yes, go to step 7.
o If no, go to step 9.

6. Place a call on the tracker SIM.

7. Send the location data via SMS.

8. Call the admin for a voice message.

9. Send the message "unable to find location data".

10. Generate a Google Maps location link.

TECHNOLOGIES USED:
1. A9G Module: The A9G module is a compact and versatile IoT module
that integrates GSM, GPS, and other functionalities. It serves as the core
component of the GPS tracker project, providing communication and
location capabilities.

2. Custom-Designed PCBs: Custom-designed printed circuit boards (PCBs)


are used to create a compact and tailored hardware layout for the project.
They facilitate the proper connection of components and optimize the
device's form factor. PCB manufacturing services like JLC PCB can be
used for designing and ordering custom PCBs

3. Microcontroller (ESP32): The ESP32 is a versatile microcontroller


module known for its powerful processing capabilities, built-in Wi-Fi and
Bluetooth connectivity, and wide range of applications in the field of
electronics and IoT. It serves as the central processing unit for the project, facilitating
control, data processing, and communication with other components.

4. Rechargeable Battery: A rechargeable battery is used to provide the


required power supply to the device. The choice of battery depends on the
project's power requirements and desired battery life. It allows the GPS
tracker to operate independently without the need for a continuous external power source.

5. Connectors and Cables: Connectors and cables are essential for


establishing electrical connections between various hardware components.
They ensure secure and reliable connections between the microcontroller,
sensors, antennas, and other parts of the project. Proper connectors and
cables help maintain signal integrity and reduce interference.

6. Micro USB and Type-C Cables: Micro USB and Type-C cables are used
for multiple purposes in the project. They are employed for battery
charging, which keeps the device powered and operational. Additionally,
these cables are useful for debugging and programming tasks, allowing you
to connect the microcontroller to a computer or programming interface for
code development and testing.

7. Arduino IDE: The Arduino Integrated Development Environment (IDE)


is an open-source software platform designed for programming and
developing applications for Arduino microcontroller boards. It provides a

and uploading code to Arduino-based hardware.

ADVANTAGES:

1. Multi-Purpose Functionality: The project combines multiple functionalities in one


device, including GPS tracking, SOS button for emergencies, and audio spy capabilities,
making it versatile for various applications.

2. Compact Design: The custom-designed PCB allows for a neat and compact assembly,
making it easy to conceal and deploy discreetly.

module to sleep when not in use, this results in longer battery life.

DISADVANTAGES:

1. Limited Range: The project relies on 2G cellular networks for communication, which
means it may not work in areas with poor or no network coverage.

2. Complex Assembly: Building the project may require soldering skills and access to
specialized components and tools, which could be challenging for some users.
