Rise of Mental stress
❖ Academic stress
The rise of mental stress due to academics is a pressing
issue that has garnered significant attention, especially
in the context of higher education. The academic
environment, characterized by rigorous coursework,
competitive atmospheres, and high expectations, can be
a potent source of stress for students. This essay will
explore the various dimensions of academic stress and
its impact on mental health.

importance of mental health. Institutions can implement
strategies such as reducing the emphasis on grades,
providing mental health resources, and encouraging a
culture of collaboration rather than competition.
❖ Social Pressure:
Student mental health is indeed a critical concern,
and social pressure plays a significant role in
contributing to stress among students.
Peer Pressure:
• Definition: Peer pressure refers to the influence that
peers (people within the same social group) have on
an individual’s behaviour, attitudes, and views.
• Impact on Mental Health:
Positive Influence: Sometimes, peer pressure
encourages healthy behaviours.
Negative Influence: However, it can also lead to tension,
worry, and other unfavourable outcomes.

IMPACT OF MENTAL STRESS
Mental stress can significantly impact students in various
ways, both psychologically and physically
12 | P a g e
• Ethical Decisions: The pressure to perform
academically can sometimes lead students to
engage in cheating or other unethical behaviours.
13 | P a g e
relaxation techniques can be valuable tools
for coping with academic pressure.
• Expanding the Safety Net: Increasing
access to qualified counsellors, therapists,
and social workers within schools is
essential. Trained professionals can provide
individual and group therapy sessions, offer
crisis intervention, and connect students with
additional resources. Strengthening the
support system is a critical step in
addressing student stress.

• Moving Matters: Regular physical activity is a
powerful stress reliever. Encouraging
participation in sports, physical education
classes, or even short walks throughout the
day can significantly improve students' mood,
focus, and overall well-being.
• Mind-Body Practices:
• Meditation: Finding Inner Peace: Meditation
practices such as mindfulness meditation can
help students learn to manage stress and
cultivate inner calm. These practices involve
focusing on the present moment and
observing thoughts and feelings without
judgment. Meditation can be integrated into
the school day or taught as a coping
mechanism for students.
❖Technology for Good:
• A Balanced Approach : Schools can
leverage technology to create a supportive
learning environment. Educational apps and
online resources can promote stress
management techniques and provide access
to mental health information. However, it's
crucial to find a balance, ensuring technology
doesn't become a replacement for face-to-face
interaction

5.DISCUSSIONS
Mental health isn't just about avoiding disorders. It's
about feeling good and thriving. It affects how we think,
connect, and handle stress.
Strong connections with others are key. Regular
exercise helps too. We can also practice mindfulness,
focusing on the present moment. By taking care of our
mental health, we invest in our overall happiness and
life quality.
The Survey conducted by us has shown us that the
society is in dire need of mental health measures to
enhance the lifestyle of people.
Also, we have collected over 30 responses as shown in
the results which validate over statements and the
requirement of this report.
Hence, this is a crucial discussion for the betterment of
society and its people. Through this report we hope to
reach more and more people and create an impact, so that
there would not be any more cases of radical actions such
as drug abuse, suicides etc. and we can all become a part
of a happy society.

6.CONCLUSION
The need for a multi-pronged approach is clear. Schools
can cultivate a culture of well-being by prioritizing
mental health awareness, destigmatizing help-seeking
behaviour, and integrating social-emotional learning
programs. Expanding access to qualified mental health
professionals within schools is crucial to provide vital
support
Investing in student mental health and well-being isn't
just about addressing an immediate crisis; it's about
nurturing a generation of resilient individuals equipped
to thrive in a demanding world. By working together,
schools, parents, teachers, and mental health
professionals can cultivate a supportive learning
environment that prioritizes both academic success and
emotional well-being. This collaborative effort is not
only a moral imperative but also an investment in the
future.
