The romantic relationships have become an integral part of adolescents’ daily lives, and dating is the
primary topic of adolescent conversations (Eder, 1993). Having romantic feelings and attempting to
engage in romantic relationships are significant indicators of adolescence experiences ( Giordano et al.,
2006). Engagement in same-sex relationships among students is a topic of significant interest. Since the
Supreme Court ruling on June 26, 2015, legalizing same-sex marriage, students have become more open
about their feelings and questions on this subject. Same-sex attraction refers to emotional, physical, or
sexual attraction
To a person of the same gender. The experience of same-sex attraction is not the same for everyone.
Some people may feel exclusively attracted to the same gender, while others may feel attracted to both
genders.
The study recognizes that same-sex relationships have gained increased visibility and acceptance in
recent years reason why students nowadays are engaging in this kind of relationship. Most research on
the development of early romantic relationships has focused on heterosexual relationships and
therefore less is known about the development of same-sex romantic or sexual relationships. Few have
further examined the development of romantic or sexual relationships among same-sex individuals;
however, there exists a substantial body of literature which instead focuses on the origin of same-sex
attraction.
In the Philippines, local activists have tried to avoid this discussion in favor of advocating
Anti-discrimination laws (Lim & Jordan, 2013). Nevertheless, it is an important issue to discuss, as
studies have shown that legal recognition of same-sex partners reduces social exclusion,
Alleviates the oppressive efects of institutionalized stigma, and increases access to more benefits and
resources, which in turn can improve mental
For same-sex couples, creating and expressing commitment in the context of an intimate relationship is
a complicated task. The lack of institutional and social supports for same-sex couples and the
accompanying stigmatization and discrimination have important psychosocial implications for couple.
This social context creates a need for couples to anticipate and negotiate relationship definitions
(Kuehlew in &Gottschalk, 2000; Green & Mitchell, 2002), including their definition of commitment to a
long-term, mutually beneficial and satisfying intimate relationship.
The impact of same-sex partnership recognition on relationship duration therefore remai unknown, and
comparable heterosexual and same-sex long-term marital data are not yet available. Scientists have
found that the psychological and social aspects of committed relationships between same-sex partners
largely resemble those of heterosexual partnerships. Like heterosexual couples, same-sex couples form
deep emotional attachments and commitments. Same-sex and heterosexual couples alike face similar
issues concerning intimacy, love, loyalty, and stability, and they go through similar processes to address
those issues.
