DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, learners  Define a relation and function
should be able to:  Represent the relations in three ways: table, mapping
diagram and graph
 Differentiate relation from a function
 Determine if a given relation is a function using
vertical line test
 Appreciate the concept of relation and function in
real life

pairs
The set of all first coordinates or the (x) is
the domain of relation while the second set
is (y) which is the range of the relation.
Function is a special type of relation
What about Function? in which each input has exactly one
output

Very good. A function is a relation in


which every element in the domain is
mapped to exactly one element of the
range.
Example:
{(1,2), (3,4), (5, 6), (7,8), (9,10)}

“All functions are relations but not all
relation are functions”

The three ways to represent our relation


are:
1. Table of Values: it describes clearly the
behavior of the value of y as the value of x
changes. This can be written horizontally
and vertically.
Example :1 {(-3,-2), (-2,-1), (0, 1), (2,3),
(3,4)}

What are the domain and the range? It is a function because


the domains is only paired in range

2. Mapping Diagram- It consists of two


columns. The first column in the domain(x)
and the second column is the range(y).
Arrows are use to show the relation of the
two.

3. Graph- The graph of relation is a set of


all points whose coordinates (x,y) satisfy
y=f(x)
Vertical line test- A graph represents a
function if a vertical line drawn through a
graph intersects it in exactly one point
Example 1:
