Introduction
A strong educational leader is one that embodies a positive impact on the school
environment and works toward implementing a desire for success and collaboration. Educational
leaders that promote a model of servant leadership know how to encourage teachers to reach
their personal potential and create a sense of unity within the school community. Servant leaders
in education are impactful by serving others while creating an atmosphere that instills teacher
education and experience to create a learning environment that makes an impact on my students
and instills in them a love for learning. I also strive to have a positive report with my colleagues
where I am valued as a member of a team and can learn from those around me who have walked
the educational journey ahead of me. I believe that successful educational leaders go above and
beyond the classroom and push the barriers of formality by serving others first and foremost.
After researching various leadership styles and considering the way I personally lead, I
servant leader. While I do not embody every aspect of each leadership style, I do feel that I
encompass different traits from each style that allow me to lead with authenticity and servant
mindset. Transformational leaders lead by “identifying their followers’ strengths and stimulating
their followers to use their strengths and to take personal initiative” (Bakker, Hetland, Olssen and
Espeyik, 2022). Servant leaders “flip the conventional leadership hierarchy upside down. Instead

of people working to serve the leader, the leader exists to serve the people” (Ruggeri, 2005).
While they both initiate a desire to inspire others, transformational leaders do so with a common
goal in mind while servant leaders individualize their focus to be supportive. I believe that I have
taken a positive approach with each leadership style. My focus will always be how I make an
impact on others whether that be in the classroom, with my colleagues or within my school
community. My desire is to create an atmosphere where others are respected and valued.
When I consider the integrity and fairness that I will promote within my school
environment, I will first and foremost uphold my duties as an educational professional with the
intended professional standards of educational leaders. The standard that stands out to me the
most is that “effective educational leaders act ethically and according to professional norms to
promote each student’s academic success and wellbeing” (National Policy Board for Educational

model the example of Jesus Christ. As Christian believers, we are called to serve others and to
show humility in our leadership. The Bible tells us in Philippians 2:3-4, “Do not be selfish, do
not try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Do not look
out for your own interests but take an interest in others to” (Bible Gateway, 2015). To inspire

influencing others around them. Their influence impacts the student learning environment,
communication. More importantly, they develop a servant mindset that values each member of
the school community and reaches beyond the everyday ins and outs of the school operation. My
desire is to be the type of leader that sees the good in everyone and who can make a difference
