UNIVERSITY OF CALICUT
(DIRECTORATE OF ADMISSIONS)
CUCAT - 2022
(CALICUT UNIVERSITY COMMON ADMISSION TEST)
PROSPECTUS
PREFACE
The University of Calicut is the largest University in Kerala established in the year 1968 and one
among the largest in the country in terms of student intake and the number of affiliated institutions.
The jurisdiction of the University spans across five districts of Kerala, viz., Kozhikode, Malappuram,
Wayanad, Palakkad and Thrissur. The main capmus of the university is located at Tenhipalam in
Malappuram District. The university also has two off-campus centres, one at Thrissur District and
the other at Wayanad district, specially meant for tribal empowerment. The University to a large
extent has succeeded in realizing the objective of making college education accessible to millions of
young men and women of northern Kerala.
The University of Calicut is currently accredited by NAAC (Cycle-3) at “A Grade” with a CGPA of
3.13 on a 7 point scale during 2016. The NAAC team for the fourth cycle of accreditation will be
visiting the University shortly. A concerted effort is being made by the University community to
improve our ranking considerably. We have been honoured with 95th place among Higher
Education Institutions and 60th place among Universities by National Institutional Ranking
Framework (NIRF) 2021. The University is placed in 158th position among the universities in the
BRICS countries & 39th among Indian Universities. Further, the University has bagged 45th position
in the QS India Ranking in 2020. The Central Campus is housing 35 teaching departments offering
PG programmes, 395 affiliated colleges and a total student population exceeding 3.5 lakhs.
The educational system in Kerala has undergone significant transformation over the decades. As an
institution catering to the higher education requirements of rural populations, the last three years
were particularly challenging because of the havoc wrought by the pandemic. But to the credit of the
university and its stake holders, the institution was able to swiftly switch onto the online platform and
produce an archive of digital resources that would stand us in good stead in times to come.
University of Calicut conducts CUCAT 2022 (Calicut University Common Admission Test), which
